I loved Huell Howser and use to watch his show all the time back in the day. He introduced me to salvation mountain and slab city, Bombay Beach, Bagdad Cafe and so much more. He totally influenced me and enhanced my love for fun and adventure. I totally see how he’s influenced you and the way you love to explore cool quirky & fun places. RIP Huell Howser… you ROCK!

I only discovered your videos yesterday, 1-16-2019. You are a natural entertainer and communicator. It really seems like everything you do and say is right off the top of your head...no fake scripting, no paid writers. And yet, you are able to make long deserted piles of pure rubble, old soda cans and rotted newspaper...somehow...interesting and entertaining. You create a story as you go. It emerges naturally, smoothly, and spontaneously. You know what to point the camera at, and how to weave it all together. If you are truly not a hired actress being paid by professional production artists...you are almost miraculous. Amazing talent. Don't stop.

Being a guy I want to say something like; stay out of the frozen dairy section at the grocery store because you’ll melt all that stuff. But, more importantly, you are an amazing person to take us along on your adventures. As a very young child my parents worked for USG, and lived in Empire, NV. You make it possible for me to see the landscape they saw. Thank you and stay awesome.

I was (and still am) very fond of Huell Howser. California's Gold was just one of the video series that he did. "Visiting", "Downtown", "Road trip" are some of his others. He started making videos out here in California in the early eighties and stopped making new videos in Nov, 2012, when he was diagnosed with the cancer that took him in in January 2013. Most, of not all, of his videos are on UA-cam, including an hour long "Road Trip" that he took on the "Ridge Route".

I love watching your adventures where you go off road in the Nevada desert. We love to vacation in Nevada, specifically the Carson area. We got married in the Silver Queen in Virginia City. But other than the seven mile canyon road (it used to be gravel, now it's paved ) east out of Virginia City, we have not adventured to any backcountry places...yet. And as for rear differential lock, it locks both rear wheels together. With your rear differential unlocked it allows the inside rear wheel to slow down when you make turns. So when you are in mud(for example ) an open differential (unlocked )allows the power from the drive train to go to easiest wheel to turn. Thus one wheel spins and you get stuck. With rear differential locked, both wheels are driving and you get better traction. Also, 4 hi is better for mud, snow, wet or icy roads. 4 lo is for steep or rough terrain. I've been on a few organized four wheel drive runs. Also, I grew up on a small dairy farm and currently live on a small ranch and have had to used four wheel drive quite a bit. Good luck off roading and be safe. I would love to check out some places close the Carson area.

Interesting. "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace" was used as the tile for one of Adam Curtis' films. He works with the BBC and made these great insightful documentaries on how modern society works. He made Power of nightmares about the war on terror, Century of the Self which is about marketing and propaganda, All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace which is about computers and the Internet . His latest film is called Hypernormalisation, the name of which was taken from a poem from the old Soviet Union. It means that everything is F'ed up but people just kind of accept it as normal.

Hey Wonder, I live in the great state of Kansas and I love it! Moving here from Southern California back in 2007 and having done just about everything you can do in the state including visiting Yosemite National Park over a dozen times which included making the hike from the valley floor to the top of Half Dome twice. 😎 All of this mostly alone as you do. My vehicles of choice back in those days were a 1972 Ford Ranchero W / camper shell and a 1990 Chevrolet El Camino W / camper shell.

I was doing a winter survival class and because of my no tech rule for school I didn't have my cellphone to get a question in on time.
I will admit it I do pack an emergency transponder but never had to use it as of yet.
So my questions, sorry but you are quite fascinating and trying to think of a single question was next to impossible! #1 How do you locate your site's for the videos?
#2 I take off from Ohio in the spring and van dwell for about seven months with my dogs.
I have an extended Ford van with beefed up suspension and want to hit the old abandoned towns out your way. Do I have to have four wheel drive or can I get by with two wheel? I'm a very experienced off roader 4x4's quads etc. So I have common sense on trail reading. But it's a long ways from home to find out I should have converted it to 4x4 first. Thanks for the Q&A and a live stream would be great! You would have to get your sister or someone to monitor for you. Trying to read and answer the questions is nuts! Trust me, I tried it a couple of times and it just got to the point that I was way behind on the text and had to pause and read then answer another one. But your impromptu ad-libs would make it a great time!. Thanks for sharing your time and efforts with us and congratulations on hitting 50k! This year will probably carry you to 100+k in sub's! Happy travels!.
    Beeps.

"Desert mountains", great answer! Many folks are not aware that a desert, at least if you ask a naturalist, is anywhere that the rate of evaporation exceeds the rate of precipitation. All of Nevada, its 300+ mountain ranges included, are in a desert!

Richard Brautigan, R.I.P. He also wrote "Trout Fishing in America" and "The Wedding Cake". He said he lost every trout he ever hooked. He said "They either spun off, or flipped off, or flopped off, or fucked off his leader! Too funny that! He said a couple of 3rd graders wrote "Trout Fishing in America" on the backs of little kids on the playground in chalk just because it looked cool!
He said the next day, some of the little kids had clean shirts on them but a lot of the kids had the same shirts on and you could still read "Trout Fishing in America" but it had been partially brushed off by their mothers and sent back to school the next day.

If you're looking for a new state to explore you should check out NW Montana, the Jewel Basin, and Glacier Park, and the Flathead Valley. With tons of ghost towns, old mines and some of the prettiest mountains in the Rockies.
It's pretty rare for Grizzlies to go after a person, and usually there will be extenuating circumstances. Such as Cubs, or very early spring when they're just coming out of hibernation.
There are a lot things people can do to ensure that they don't have any problems with bears. Make sure food is put away, stored at least 20 to 30 feet away from Camp up in a tree. Don't clean fish in your camp, when you prepare your food clean up right away and put it back in the tree. They really have no interest in people. So usually give them a wide berth try and stay upwind and don't do things that would be of interest to the bear. And if the bear decides you are interesting then it's time to give it your backpack, throw it to the side and hope the bear goes for it. Do not turn around or run, slowly back away do not turn your back on the bear, just back away. Get as much distance as you can and don't turn around until the bear can't see you. If the bear is not interested in your backpack, get out your bear mace. The bear will probably charge at this point, so you get one shot, and don't start shooting until it's within 5 to 7 foot. Aim directly at the of their nose, sweeping back and forth getting both eyes. Continue to back away, and as soon as you judge it safe to do so, get out of there!
Mountain lions trouble me far more then bears. Their far more dangerous, and they have no problem going after people.

I liked the California Gold shows. Huell did a show about Rancho Hospital in Downey California and it featured my neighbor across the street. I really liked all his shows. I have to admit, you are a lot better to look at than Huell! :-) I have lived in LA all my life and LV part time for about 30 years. You are one of the best things I have seen in LV in all these years. Love your sense of humor! LOL! You are willing to be probed by an alien! LMAO! To funny!
The "locker" locks both wheels together so one wont spin without the other spinning therefore giving you much better traction. Without the locker if one wheel breaks loose and spins the other will not continue to make the truck move when unlocked. If locked the other wheel will continue to make the truck move.
Keep making all of us smile, you are the best! Thank you!

I’m so happy somebody finally asked about what happened to your sunglasses. I was totally perplexed by how after you lost them, there they were back on your face just a couple of episodes later. So I was like, did she just pop back down to a random LV souvenir shop and snap up another pair of dime a dozen cheap ass made in China sunglasses, or what? So I was super stoked to discover the ol’ mystery of the cheap ass, plastic, made in China sunglasses with an American flag printed on them, that look exactly like the old ones except now that you mentioned it, they are a different shape than the old lost ones. So, I’d love to see the story about where someone found the old ones, recognized who’s they were and miraculously returned them. Now that would be a great story! But big time props to one of our UA-cam fans who sent you some new ones. I think I’d start scrounging around for some others, just in case, I’m just sayin’

You have an adventurous heart. By all means, take it to Egypt. Touch the pyramids of Giza and Saqqara. Stand in the great temples (Karnak, Luxor, Edfu, Philae, Abu Simbel, Hatshepsut). Descend into the tombs of the pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings. Take in the wonders on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. You'll be forever changed - you'll never think of the history of humanity in the same way. For fun, visit the Khan el Khalili Bazaar in Cairo, and sun-bathe or go snorkeling in the Red Sea at Sharm el-Sheikh. If you can, spend a few days in Alexandria. You may not want to come back.

In terms of foreign places to visit, I think you could have a blast in Japan, but it is crazy expensive. I would highly recommend Australia. Lots of beautiful countryside, you can talk to the locals, there are more excellent local beers than you can shake a stick at, and it should be relatively inexpensive.

I recently found your UA-cam channel. Truly entertaining. Congrats on 75k. I just watched your Burning Man video. The best summary I've ever seen. (Actually, I found you thru the truenudists UA-cam site....)

You are right about the snakes. I live in the Mojave desert Southern California and have only seen a few snakes. You have done a very good job showing us what is out there. Love your channel Wonder Hussy.
    Your Awesome 🤗😍🤣😘

I watched several of your videos and I think you are just a great person. When I was a kid my dad had a camper van and we did the exact same thing, go exploring. I love history and I am stuck in Michigan in a house with property, a job that I love, lots of responsibilities so I just enjoy traveling with you. I get to see all the places I can't go right now. Let me know if you want to explore Detroit. Lots of history here. Probably spring, summer or fall is the best time, not winter. I will hook you up with people who can show you around. You can camp right on my property. Keep up the good work.

Love It!!! I recently discovered your channel and really enjoy it :) I moved to Las Cruces NM from Cleveland OH just over a year ago. It was a deep calling to the desert and also the weird, quirkiness of this part of the nation. In CL I was a club kid/raver for over a decade so I also really like watching your Burning Man vids and would love to go one day! Namaste

About the old "Ridge Route" in California, I have a jpeg of an old Auto Club map that shows the route, distances and points of interest. I believe it would take a very long time to do this because it had a 15 mph speed limit (I believe) to do the 100+ miles the route was...
