This is the type of game McCowan thrives, been there, seen it, done it. Remember young Engels played for a mid table team not used to the demands of winning every week, he will grow.
The 5 subs rule really does benefit us (and all big clubs in their domestic leagues) Against St Johnstone we brought on Idah, Hatate, Forrest, McCowan, Valle Yesterday against Ross County we brought on Kyogo, Bernardo, Forrest, McCowan Being able to bring on that level of replacement against tiring opponents in the final 20-30 mins of games, is a massive advantage for us
A lesson in how to shut down space? Ross County stopped us playing through the middle, reducing chances in on goal. In the first half Celtic had zero shots on goal and few off-target attempts on goal. It wasn't poor finishing, in the 1st half. We just didn't have any chances to finish.
McCowan and Bernardo were brilliant when they came on. Bernardo really got stuck in and grabbed the game by the scruff. Plenty of dig from the subs which was great. Could easily have been one of those days. Another big 3 points. I hate international breaks but this is a great time to regroup, reset and process Dortmund game and prepare for next set of fixtures. Great result for Aberdeen as well, R*ngers fans but be raging as they had hope both would drop points 🤣
Positives from yesterday's game showed fighting Sprit with Only 15 minutes to go Come back and win 2--1 . Regarding penalties if you retake a penalty every time a goalkeeper moves we'll spend the afternoon retaking penalties.
It's one thing coming on for the last 20-30 minutes against tiring (and sometimes demoralised) opponents. It's a much bigger ask to do it from the start against fresh & motivated teams
I know it’s really early in the season and as much as I hate international breaks this one has came at the right time for us.Need a wee break and gather ourselves.Too many players no at it at all.For me Rio hasn’t been on it for a while. As per when the subs came on they injected a bit of life to the team but ultimately it’s 3 points and we move on.
i just said the same about hatate dude, before reading your comment. totally agree. i wonder whats up with him but theres something.. hes losing the ball too much for example then when hes not getting in those cutting passes is it worth losing the ball so much.
John as always good on the show but confused why u would bring up turnbull about moods and complaints when comparing mccowan Surely hatate is the one to look at He looked like he had no enthusiasm for being there yesterday Engels poor also but at least tried and showed some battling spirit We need to see mccowan v aberdeen alongside mcgregor and a fitter engels
Engles looked low on confidence yesterday, he needs backing and not criticised like some fans have laid on him. Hatate is a busted flush ,he has been forna while. He's now like abada was ,living off past glories
I don't think his point is very confusing. He's comparing a Scottish player who's not a regular starter with another Scottish player who's not a regular starter, and their comparative attitudes. Hatate gets this criticism all the time, but I don't think he's lazy or unenthusiastic. He's just not terribly athletic and has a down sort of body language, but he's always been like that. And the big difference between Hatate and Turnbull is that Hatate is an excellent player while Turnbull is hopeless. People are much more forgiving of a perceived lack of enthusiasm when someone is a good football player.
@@davidatchison3778 ah ok - got u now Scottish player v scottish player Did not realise this - appreciate the reply and makes sense now in this context ☘️
It wasn't personal against Turnbull, it was purely because I see McCowan playing a similar role to him in the squad - a lot of sub appearances and starting as a rotation option. It seemed to me Turnbull was never really comfortable with that, which isn't even a criticism - it is understandable to want to play as often as possible. My point is that as a Celtic fan I feel McCowan will be a lot more motivated to play a squad role. I can see why it comes across as a dig at Turnbull - just a clumsy way I put it talking 100mph of the cuff. Hopefully Hatate finds consistency again!
Even tho we went 1 nil down. I never doubted we'd win. The longer the game went on. Celtic pressed better and passed better. I'd like to see some shooting from outside the box.
I hope McCowan gets a fair chance at Celtic given he came from Dundee for £1m! I don’t care what Engels cost , every player should play on their merits and not because of their transfer fee! Engels was awful yesterday but he’s still young and has plenty time to improve.Bernardo was better than Tuesday!
Hi BHOYS , McCowan and Kuhn two rough diamonds , just wait til their polished , and Aston Villa must go and hump themselves DAIZEN MUST STAY ( but I bet Lawell is rubbing his hands already ) .🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
7 or 8 times outta 10 the games after europe are a bit difficult (especially away and especially after losing in midweek) No team plays their best every single game, just doesnt happen. On the days yer not at yer best ye win by hook or crook, job done
Watched the Aberdeen v Hearts game. Hearts looked to be the ones more likely to win it before the sending of. Both should give the huns a good game. They wont give Celtic any issue.
Expect more of these days post more CL maulings. Factor in injuries, exhaustion, players missing due to far-off international duty, artificial surfaces, reductions in away support etc and suddenly the Champions League doesn't seem so appealing?
All the papers saying BR could learn from County set up, correct me but how many points did they get? My point is EVEN if we try to change in Europe you still get same points for losing 1-0 or 7-1 . Certainly not as bad but BR would get slaughtered for not having a go…
Yes but goal difference could yet be a factor. Also, it is far easier to move on from a credible 2-1 defeat than it is from an absolutely humiliating scoreline. The Ross County players will have taken a lot of heart from that scoreline yesterday. Certainly a lot more heart than we've taken from a 7-1 pumping in Dortmund. Also, "Having a go" & "Parking the bus" are not the only two options. There is a huge middle ground between our suicidal approach in Dortmund and Ross Count'y's ultra-defensive tactics yesterday.
Celtic, I imagine, with better players would be much better at closing down space and counter attacking than County, if they were drilled in those tactics. Any tactics that can reduce a 7-1 scoreline are good tactics.
i fn loved hatate when he came in. i still love him BUT theres some consistency or motivation issues there, against falkirk for example. hamish kinda making excuses for him here. he needs to step it up because the defensive weakness in his game isnt worth it if he isnt giving more g/a and some pressing. he was just getting shoved off the ball like he didnt care against falkirk.
Lm bossed teams in the spl playing with really inferior players so playing with better quality around him he should continue in the same vain . He knows the spl always wants the ball and is at the centre of everything when he comes on he has real vitality. Definitely should be given his opportunity..
definitely showed he has ability unlike his performance against falkirk. if he continued like he did against falkirk id be shitting myself fir the rest of the season but that game was freak and rodgers did make too many changes. valle im looking forward to see more.
Disappointed to hear your approval of players deliberately damaging the fabric of the pitch to gain an unfair advantage, in this case, the penalty spot. All players should be shown a yellow card for 'unsporting behaviour', specifically for 'making unauthorised marks on the field of play' (Law 12: Fouls and Misconduct).

I would rather we lost 1:0 by defending with 10 men behind the ball and have no shots on goal because goal difference will count in the end.
