I fell in love with a "Banner Boy" buckboard I saw at a car show when I was about 7. Then I built go-karts as a kid, using any crap I could find on the curb. Always liked the Idea of the Cycle Cars of the teens and twenties - 'cause it seemed like the perfect solution to the daily commute in the gas guzzlers of the '60's and 70's. I've spent years commuting to work on an antique single- cylinder motorcycle; but my eyesight, my balance, and my muscle strength have begun to decline rapidly, so this summer, in order to celebrate my retirement, I began building my buckboard - - This cyclekart movement is the most exciting new thing in motorsport since go-karting exploded, back in the sixties. I want to see commuter lanes on every main road reserved for lightweight, high-mileage vehicles, so that green commuters won't get squashed by trucks and busses. I'm already designing my second cyclekart build, so my Lady and I can start crashing Hot-Rod cruises, and stirring things up.
So glad you're going through the Bardahl car. As I said, i had never driven it; only started the engine. If you hadn't been somebody who could go over it before lighting the tires, there's no way i would have sold it to you! :-) As for the Amilcar's front tires being backwards, it really doesn't matter, since no torque (from engine or brakes) goes to it. It steers the same, with tread rolling either direction. (But it does look weird. I'll grant you that!) Anyway I'm really glad they've gone to a great guy, and now I have room for my first scratch build!
I saw a car on a Facebook page, it was a 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster and I immediately took to the design which is odd for me, I then begin giving this some contemporary retro style and make some changes when I find a page that races early 1900's scale cars, very excited to see a few designs come to life 😊
I built one over the last year and a half and it has been a blast! I'm in western Pennsylvania and am trying to generate interest. I drive mine in local parades and in the high school parking lot on weekends. I based my build on a 1922 Sunbeam.
Havent had a video of yours show up in my feed in a while, good to see some new content. Gotta get some pov stuff riding these around when they are setup.
I've managed to own 2 of these awesome machines in my half century+ driving years. Both vintage British one-offs from the 30's. They were hard as hell to acquire and worth every bit of the effort.
These things are so cool. I'm pretty sure though to get them street legal you need to have headlights, taillights, turn signals, mirrors and some kind of a windshield and if not a windshield then goggles for eye protection
Me and your interests and range of fascination with with anything with an engine is damn near identical. Scooters, cars, cub cadets/tractors, and rc cars and I’m sure much more. Love the content I hope for more of it.
I will be moving back down to Florida sometime soon. I would love to buy enough land to build a Goodwood style race track just for cycle cars and cycle karts....I will be looking for the land so I will get in touch when I am ready to do something. I would like to get in touch soon though...
i am here in deltona FL. working on building one. i have been in contact with the daytona antique race car club and they were receptive to these cars.we would just have to have a hand full of cars to add to there show.
Love these things. If I had the space, I would absolutely build one but with shifter kart engine/trans - I mean, who in the cycle kart world is really a pure blood traditionalist?
Super cool video!! I have been assembling a machine shop to support my UA-cam channel that I will be starting with the build of a 1928 Morgan RIP GN special 3 wheeler with 4 wheels. I am using an experimental aircraft opposed twin supercharged engine. This will be mated to an MG 4 speed manual gearbox with a 2 piece hand cast aluminum adapter. This will be connected to an MG differential with beautiful wire wheels. The frame I stood over steel and will have aircraft cloth stretched over and sprayed with plasticizer. This will have a boat tail look and is essentially a 20's airplane without a propeller or wings. There is only one other in existence and Charlie Martin races it in the UK. The next project lined up is the building of a Brooklands style cycle car similar to the Pembleton. This will have a BMW R-100 engine in the front and four wheels with gorgeous leather interior and even space for luggage. I look forward to seeing everyone over at the channel when it gets warm out enough to be in the barn in Pennsylvania .....
Subscribed for this.. Love cycle cars, especially the properly styled ones like those. The barhdal is beautiful but I would absolutely love to have one like the boat tail #26.. I dont get to get out much so I would actually daily one around here, especially if I installed my 5spd 250cc honda cg clone engine.. Gonna share video to my Facebook and see if anyone locally would be interested in starting a race league and maybe a business building/selling them.
there are guid lines they abide by .yes you can do pretty much anything you want but the motors and the wheels are pretty standard. the idea is to make it affordable for ANY ONE .if you want to be exclusive there are a ton of high dollar short track cars you can build and race.
It's NOT a vintage style car. It IS a vintage style CYCLE CAR. I think you chould make that distinction. But I LIKE your presentation and have subscribed. If I could have one of those with about 50 HP Id go out and antagonize the local cops!
You missed a HUGE point of this …you’re supposed to build your own…. People like you simply write a check and that is not in keeping with the spirit of this hobby….
seeing 20-30 of these go around freedom factory for a few sessions would be so cool
Insurance company: No. They look fun as hell tho
Yes sir! I'm SOOOOO down.
@JackCecil awd / 4 electric hub motors , 1 per wheel . Been wanting to make this idea for 5 years now.
@@JackCecildo you have access to one of these with no motor? A project ? Help me find one please
@@JackCecilan electric version of this would be so awesome

Back in the late 50's bobby grim campaigned the bardahl special at the fair grounds in my town and I liked going with my dad to the races

I love cyclekarts so much. Haven't started building mine yet, though. It's on the list lol

More to come!
It’s been a while since I stopped by, been working away for a while now. These little buggers are cool!
I love the proportions of the second one. I would love to get into these.
You should!!

Talk cletus into getting some and race them at freedom factory would be sick. ? Do they do vintage mini drag cars ? That would be sick too 😅
I'm all for it!!

Jack you rock! Love the channel and content. Peace
I'm curious about the motor. Can I have more details?
Love them both!
Hi.Does anyone know how to make a rear wheel differential so that it can turn?
Love these things. If I had the space, I would absolutely build one but with shifter kart engine/trans - I mean, who in the cycle kart world is really a pure blood traditionalist?
Where do you buy the spoked wheels for cycle cars?
Looks fun! Needs a QS 165 Elec. setup!
Gonna throw a SurRon rig in one i think.
i have the haoqi rhino im still excited to see your next video on it

What I don't understand is the name " Cycle " kart . I was expecting pedals when I first saw them.
Ask ruddy what's going on with the sunny......
Why?

Really interesting
What size chain are you running?
35 chain
Florida Man here. Love these things, but yeah, there's no value in building one if you have nowhere to play.
super rad 👍
I build motors lmk I own 5280 mini bikes in Denver. I have all billet versa 50hp block runs on M5
