Thaumaturgy can be used to change the colour and brightness of fire, I've used it to turn the fire transparent and cover the enemies in almost invisible fire in the dark, or make their campfire so bright it blinds them for a bit for an impromptu flashbang.

I did that once in a western themed campaign, when we were having to navigate an enemy camp with a gatling turret. Used thaumaturgy to make the fire flare up bright white and blind the bandits. Their campfire was waaaay outside the spell's range, but DM allowed it because Rule of Cool. And I was promptly downed when the gunner started blind firing, but he also killed the remaining bandits for us

I once played a wizard and hid a child that enemy guards were looking for by hiding him under my robes. When the guards asked if we had seen anything, I bluffed by saying that I could cast a spell to help them locate the boy.

I know nobody will care, but it feels good to vent even if nobody cares. Why is it that I get more support from people online than my own parents and step-parents. I'm an over the road truck driver and I spend about 2 months away from home then I'm home for a week or two, I know most interstates better than my own town. I spent all summer last year driving so I could get a new car, I had a jeep renegade but it didn't really feel like my car, it was a car I bought so the family could use it if they needed to. In September of 2019 everyone was able to get their own new car so I wanted one of my own as well. I worked all summer of 2020 without going home so I could save up money, and in October I traded in my Jeep for a 2019 mustang gt premium in velocity blue with less than 2400 miles on it. My brothers and co-driver we happy for me but when my parents and step-parents saw it, their response was "why that car". I'm not really old ether, I'm only 28, and I think that's pretty good for a 28 year old.

Maybe not super creative, but I had fun with Shape Water in my last session. We were travelling down a river in a Folding Boat (basically a portable magic boat that turns into a small box when not in use) and eventually realised we were heading for a waterfall! After a brief panic, I jumped off the boat and used Shape Water to freeze the surface of the river, gradually creating an ice bridge to the riverbank. The rest of the party jumped onto my ice bridge to safety, we turned the boat back into a box and I grabbed it with Mage Hand. So glad I ended up taking the Shape Water cantrip!

Played a kobold wizard in party of six. Was on losing end of a large combat encounter inside a bugbear cave. Made the choice to be the rear guard during retreat in 10 ft wide tunnel using mold earth cantrip as means of creating difficult terrain. Knew I wouldn't be able to reach the party since everyone was dashing with their action. Shouted at last one in sight to have party barricade the cave entrance. Proceeded to cast mold earth to begin excavating a hole in earthen wall, walk in the empty space and close it off behind me to get cover from bugbear range attacks. Party members closed off the cave entrance thinking I wouldn't make it. Had a con modifier of 2 so I could theoretically hold breath for 3 minutes, tunneled my way back to where combat happened, stole loot and tunneled back to surface with mold earth.

This was a combined effort by my tiefling Sorc, a tiefling paladin, and 2 clerics.
We were sneaking through a cult cave. There was a drawbridge we had to cross, and just across it were the cultists.
It all started with the phrase "Is a drawbridge not just a door?"
So, we had a quad cast of thaumaturgy on the drawbridge which caused it to slam open and throw the group of 8 cultists into the wall which immediately killed all but 2.

They couldn’t let the werewolf player hurt them, but they also didn’t want to hurt the werewolf. SOMEHOW… the wizard decided to dig a big hole in front of the door with mold earth, open the door, and have the werewolf player fall in, at which time the wizard would be ready to re-bury the werewolf up to its neck. I said fuck it and had the werewolf make a dex save as they burst into the room, which they failed. The party fucking looney-tunes-ed their way out of the situation. Little late to the party, but here goes.
Not me but one of my players managed to escape from a group of over 10 drow in the tunnels of the underdark with a simple cantrip. He played an artificer and in the module my players had escaped a drow outpost that held them as prisoners. The drow were chasing them maybe 5 minutes behind. There were two passages in front of them, one heading straight and another down into darkness. He grabbed a nearby stone and using an artificer feature commanded it to repeat a phrase. He chose, "Quiet! They should pass us by, the Umberhulk down the other path should make quick work of them!" he chucked it down the pit and urged the rest of the part on.
Funnily enough the party met an Umberhulk later that session lol! They blamed the artificer for giving me the idea but it was already planned to happen. The drow kept chasing but it gave them enough time to lose them.

Now I will say it was a new DM who didn’t understand balancing and I was paid with a lvl 1 Paladin who thought he was invincible and walked straight into an ambush and was killed/knocked out instantly. My character then proceeds to bait the captain into the dark tunnel we were exploring and fire eldritch blast from the darkness. The more he chased me, the more he got hit and I was victorious. I then looked for my unfortunate party members and found them ready to be sacrificed to a dark god. So with dancing lights, Prestidigitation, and some amazing charisma checks, I convinced them I WAS their god and saved the day.

Not too creative, but still a good use of one. I was running lost mines of phandelver for my family. They had taken out the redbrands who held the town with an iron fist. Now, the book talks about the Zentarim taking over after that, but has nothing else about it, so I improvised a section about them. During this time, the house the party was staying in was being directly attacked by Zentarim soldiers. They were being bottlenecked at the doorway, but then some archers were firing in through the windows. At this time, our cleric comes up with the idea of casting thaumatergy. don’t know if I spelled that right, but it was effective. The windows are closed, so the archers can’t fire in. At the same time, the door is slammed shut on a heavy unit’s face, dealing a nice bit of bludgeoning damage. After this, the party barricaded the door, and had time to think of a plan. The following encounter became way easier after that, as they were beginning to get overwhelmed at the beginning. It didn’t help that the wizard didn’t play that day.

Oh, my DM was the winner with this one. We were fighting a ogre by a canyon and trying to knock it in. One of the other people hit the shoulder with a flaming arrow or something (I forgot, this was a while ago). So, being a mage with a 20 dex, (we rolled for stats with d20s) I freaking JUMP ONTO ITS INJURED SHOULDER AND USED FLAME HANDS ON IT. That would have been cool, but I rolled a nat 1 on the spell. This was our 5th session, and this was only the second nat 1. My DM was awesome with turning nat 1s into really cool fails, so instead of having it just normally backfire, he pauses, looks something up, and rolls a couple of dice. Then he looks at me and says. "Ever heard of icy hot?" And I just shriveled inside. Now, this wouldn't have happened if we hadn't tried to travel to the Big Bad, and doing so, travel through a tundra. So I healed a ogre to full health.

I have one a creative use of a cantrip and combo with melee weapon. With permission from my dm, my character is a Kitsune arcane trickster / shadow sorcerer. My main weapon is the kusarigama, 1D4 bludgeoning/slashing, this is important. I asking since the kusarigama is made of metal can shocking grasp work through the chain. After a few thoughts it was ruled that yes it can, but the caught is shocking grasp does not deal crit damage. I'm personally fine with that because if I hit then I have element damage on top of my normal melee weapon. At level 2 character one level rogue and one level sorcerer I can do theoretically 18 damage normal and 22 damage crit, because 1D4 kusarigama, 1D6 sneak attack, and 1D8 shocking grasp. The best part is as I level the overall damage scales with it. So that is my creative use of shocking grasp.

My bard rolls the highest initiative, looks at the BBG and casts Tasha's Hideous Laughter, and against all odds she falls over laughing. The next round, he uses mage hand, grabs the magical lute (which she dropped while laughing) and uses it to close the barrier with the BBG and most of her undead still on the other side. Long story short, bard stole a lute with the power of creation and sealed the BBG behind a magic barrier in the process. Not bad for second level.

I once used thaumaturgy to distact an ogre that was working with a group of orgs we were send to kill. They had been hiding in a cave near a village and we had to lure them out so we could all fight them without getting the eachothers ways but with the ogre also there there was no way we could take them all on at once, so when looking into the cave i spotted that the ogre was standing next to a pile of boddies and desided to use thaumaturgy to make it sound like there was someone still alive in the pile. It ended up distracting the ogre for so long it only noticed that the sounds were fake after we managed to kill all of the orcs.

Minor illusion, with two PCs in the party having it. We were clearing a dungeon, and snagged the BBEG's favorite bauble. Running from his gaurds, we go around a corner in the hallway, which our rather foolish bard had previously marked so we could find out way out in a hurry. Including the reminder that there was a pit trap around the corner- it was an easy jump. One minor illusion to cover the pit. Second to put a copy of the pit right next to it. First two gaurds jumped over the "pit" and fell through the illusion into the spikes below. Needless to say, the other guards were surprised and distracted, and the paladin was vexxed. Hey, I"m not the guy who left spikes in the bottom of a pit.

My story is hilarious in my opinion. The party was exploring a dungeon when we came across some strange mushrooms. Upon touching them, the person who touched it magically switches place with a random person within 60 feet. Having something between skin and mushroom doesn't help, but having enough things between it does. The warlock uses mold earth. He and other party members used mage hand to tie cloth around the mold earth ball containing the mushrooms. They then tied sticks and rope to the cloth. It was dubbed the "Mace Of Switch Place". The barbarian got it and used it in battle. He has dragon horns on his head after slaying said dragon, and he likes to carry other party members on his head. Once while using it, an enemy he hit switched places with the party member on his head. He realized, and threw himself backwards, killing the enemy. We laughed about it for MULTIPLE sessions after that.

Thaumaturgy it my favorite cantrip. I use it for role play a lot (changing my eye color) as well as checking a chest for being a mimic (it had a poison barb that would have hurt us when opened) and flip a lever. (Geting rid of enemies activated and deactivated by it) Last one was great, as we were way outnumbered. 9:26

1:29 My BS senses are tingling. A one-handed weapon with the same damage as a two-handed weapon is unusual, but maybe it's just a magic weapon (there are definitely stronger magic weapons than that). But then the author says it turns cantrips into spells. First example? Burning Hands, which is a 1st level spell, not a cantrip. Then he mentions Chill Touch adding ice to the weapon, but it's not an ice spell, it summons a spooky ghost hand to bad touch a target, dealing necrotic damage.
But perhaps this is Pathfinder or something, rather than D&D. It would kind of make sense for Pathfinder to have similarly named spells that work a bit differently.

So, my DM allowed this through the rule of the cool because usually you can't create more than a single object with the prestidigitation, but we decided to ignore it for the sake of giggles. So what happened. I once used the prestidigitation to create a bunch of gold coins and then payed with them to people i made bets with after i lost. Since objects created by prestidigitation remain until they are within 5 feet away from the summoner, they were real until those people put them into their money pouches and backed away from me. I made this 3 times in a row and DM made all those people roll for insight vs my deception. They lost all three times, saving me a total of about 20 gold. Bards, baby 😎

There was this one game where I was a sorcerer and I forget what class the other spellcaster was in the party but they had thaumaturgy. So what happened was there was a store with a really valuable gemstone and we wanted it so one of the players pulls out some perfume claiming it to be a powerful potion, the shopkeeper is suspicious and wants to test the potion first so when he drinks it thaumaturgy gets cast to make the room shake and then I tell him to concentrate on the bottle and see if anything happens so while he's staring at the bottle I cast shape water to freeze it so now he thinks we gave him ice powers and gives us the valuable gemstone

Another one. It was a different campaign. We had recently killed a Kraken by boiling it to death (my monk has special fire abilities due to a homebrew technique system). After killing it, our warlock absorbed its soul. From this, he gained several benefits, but the biggest one was being able to cast Create/Destroy Water as a cantrip. He has used this ability to part rivers, clear snow, and several other things. Recently, I brought up an interesting fact to him. Holy water costs 25 gp. We have a paladin who can bless water in a 1 hr ritual. You see were this is going? We can become stupid rich. Also, both the paladin and the warlock are immortal now, so they can do it for as long as they want. Selling this holy water isn’t the only way to cheese it either. Our party has had a bag of holding since almost the beginning of the campaign. If one vile (just a few oz.) does 2d6 radiant damage, imagine 500lbs all at once.

I have one. My character, an Aasimar Cleric, was in a scenario where the party was surrounded by skeletons and undead wolves. I asked my DM if I could use Create Water using my holy symbol, creating holy water, and make the amount of water (2 gallons × level; character level 7, thus 14 gallons of water) rain on the enemies. He said I could if I rolled high enough. Nat 20. I made holy water rain down on the undead, dealing 2d12 holy damage per gallon, killing them instantly. Ended up making a deadly situation into an easy solution with creative thinking and a good DM.

Once had a player who used mino illusion to create a mirror he held up against a Medusa's face. Making it look at its own reflection, he was making the assumption that the Medusa had the same weakness as the greek one.
The medusa petrified him. It was creative but not very effective.

I had a low int Dragonborn who used minor illusion to create the sound of wolfes in order to get our horses to move... reson: They started to run faster before when they heard the sounds so it made sense to do this at this moment as well.... however the horses were attached to a wagon and three just saved kids and a very low hp player were on the wagon (the only one who could drive the wagon and had good animal control)... I didn't think to make the illusion far away and made the sound just back of the horses -that started to panic. I had -1 in animal control and got a nat 1... the other two players that were awake were too far away so the horses started to run... the wagon fell over.
The low HP player went flying into a rock an just barely survived. One of the kids got the wagon over himself and died. The second kid fell to the rock and got his head crushed and the third got trampled by the scared horses and died in our palladins arms....
This were just after a big fight and all our healingspells were gone.
We didn't even have a shovel in order to bury us and my idea to bury them in the burning house that we just left wasn't taken that well and we spent the next couple of hours to make a grave for these three kids by our hands...
I still think that the idea with wolfes were good in theory.

Hello , I know this is not answering the video’s question but it is for a series that I really want to come back,” the worst ways players derailed a campaign”. Anyway please enjoy the story
I was DMing. This was the first time i had ever DMed and it was a murder mystery I had worked months on. Practically the players start in a bar where they hear that the mayor is hiring people to investigate his family's disappearance excepted for him and his adopted daughter who maria who was not kidnapped .eventually they were supposed to find out that the mayor was A warlock disguised as the mayor and the one who kidnapped his family, but If that happened I wouldn't be writing this would I. They talk to the mayor and he decides to hire them and pay for their rooms. They were going to discuss Clues, evidence, and suspects the next day. But their long rest was interrupted by a wolf attack that was going towards and in the mayor's house. Several wolf deaths later, they reached the house where they found a sleeping mayor who had no idea there was an attack.”perception check please” the player said.” sure” i said, ”nat 20” . ” ok, you see wolf tracks in the mayor’s room” . ” oh! Wait he’s lying. I cast charm person”. I was going to say he is hostile toward you so it wont work but then i noticed that the mayor wasn’t hostile towards them. “ Well they have high cha I thought. Nat 1”.*sighs*. They Proceeded to force my poor villain to answer questions about if they kidnapped the family, and why they did it. there by skipping the whole murder Mystery i spent hours on. We forever call this the friends Incidence even though it was charm person.

See, our party lacked a rogue, so our dm liked putting loot in locked things, or locking doors to slow us and attract enemies. That is, until I joined as the wizard. I use Shape Water, Mending, and a vial of water to break locks open (freeze the water), get into the thing, then mend the lock back to its original shape. Suddenly, stealth was possible again. Now if our paladin wasn't a tin can.
I also used minor Illusion in an area of silence to "talk" to the party.

we once had an orc set in a modern campaign named gurgrom. his strength score is still the most absurd thing we've ever had in one of our games. we were all part of the mafia, and gurgrom carried no guns. he was in school, and was part of the baseball team. so he walked around carrying baseballs which he threw at people. the thing is, he was so absurdly strong, that when he hit something, or just threw the ball, it would be destroyed. so we decided to have him lug around bowling balls. those broke too.
then during a mission where we were to investigate an area and discover some rival gang's operations, the gang decided to just hole up inside and wait for us to walk into a death trap. gurgroms solution? suplex the entire fucking warehouse, and take away their fortress. which he did, without a nat 20.
in another fight, we were fighting these jerks on motorbikes, gurgrom went up onto the roof to take care of a mook who had been harrasing us at long range, and looked down. he saw one of these guys below him, and jumped off the 3 story building, landing on the poor bastard and crushed him to the point that they had to bury the motorcycle. as a prize, he took a different motorcycle.
the last good story is that we were ambushed at night on a road, these goblins had cut down a tree to block the road and trap us, and we're talking a full on oak tree. gurgrom proceeded to say "oh! new bat!" pick up the tree, then smack one of the goblins so hard it flew back into the city. (i think we agreed it landed in the school which was miles away) the other goblins, for their credit, instantly began to surrender and gave us information and one of their weapons in return for allowing them to work for us.
    gurgrom's weaknesses?
he was as dumb as a brick, and just as oblivious. this tiefling at a bar had an obvious thing for him, but poor gurgrom didn't notice, even after she kissed him. it took 3 of us, the bartender, and the tiefling to explain what was happening.
his only other weakness was that his mom is SOMEHOW even stronger than him.
this is why our group's motto is "god dammit gurgrom!" along with "be ye friend or foe?!" but that's another story

We entered a church to try to get some Information, I saw a half orc praying in one of the Pews, wanting to know how smart these people where I used my spell to say some criptic stuff, after we talking to the head priest who was no help and little rude, i was able to use thaumaturgy to convince the half orc that i was a good talking to him, telling him that the priest was fake and needed to be "dealt" with.
