- You have proven yourself worthy of a Trial of Position. In this trial, known as The Blooding, you will face three Ghost Bear warriors in sequence.If you defeat no opponents, your path as a warrior ends here. For each opponent you defeat, you will earn their rank and station within the Rasalhague Dominion.Because of the special circumstances of this trial, you will face three opponents only and will not be paired with another cadet.
The Khan has been watching your progress closely, and already has your next orders prepared, should you be victorious. Do not fail her.

Last, trials of position usually have three battlemechs of ascending weight against the fledgling. The fledgling is typically in either a medium or heavy battlemech or a heavily outdated omni.
I knew this at one point in my life. But I can’t remember when that was.

I always love gaming out Trial of Positions-- and Destiny TT is perfect for a fast-paced run through. Fun times! Congrats, Tom! The Kodiak has been a favorite since MW2. I hope you guys get a Mastodon mini or two for your campaign. I was stoked. Jo gave me the opportunity to do the artwork for both the Mastodon and Rime Otter. Sadly there's no miniature currently for the Otter, though. Looking forward to more Ghost Bear / Rasalhague Dominion campaign vids. Release the Bears of war!!

Not sure what the lore for Ghost Bear Trials of Positions are and don't care -- this was so much fun to watch the way you guys ran it. Thom ran a clinic for how to roll to hit and damage. Finally, while the Drac's may not have tuned in via pay-per-view, the generic Rashalhauge unit that I'm painting right now (Alpha Strike box IS mechs) certainly did. Cheers fellas.

The only Trial of Positions from the books I can remember right now are the two from Aidan Pryde and the one of Phelan Wolf. Aidan Pryde was given a Summoner/Thor for both of his Trials and Phela, if I remember correctly used a Nova. I can't really remember all their enemies anymore, but I beleive Aidan faced a Warhawk in his first Trial of Position, so that one was spot on.
So, a Kodiak might have been a bit overkill. But nevertheless, this was really fun.
Phelan used a Dire Wolf in his Trial of Position, he fought alongside Natasha Kerensky who had to conduct her own Trial of Position upon her return from the Wolf's Dragoons. I think they faced nothing but Assault Mechs, they may have started by facing a Heavy Mech each.
Phelan and natasha face a heavy and two assaults. Vlads was a customize Gladiator since it doesn't have enough space for two gauss .. his had a smaller engine.
Loved the battle, I was on the edge of my seat when those erppc shot locations were rolled!
Always love the “win a battle, get higher rank” aspect of the clans. It’s such a teenagers view of how things should work: “experience is overrated, and soft skills mean nothing”. And a great example of the peter principle in action. Guarantees all your best fighters will be doing discipline duties, paperwork, etc.

That was an awesome battle. The scenario was well conceived and that Kodiak is a scary beastie. Well played.
WOW, that consistent center mass damage! Thom pulling a John Wick on all three of his foes is something for the storybooks. Granted the Kodiak is a beast and a half, but with a pilot like that behind the controls, those fools in the Combine better beware!

Great work gents! Per Sarna - it does not mention what mech the sibken is required to pilot, only that the mechs increase in difficulty. It does mention that most trials have two sibken participating and that there is an option to grand melee it and/or attacking your sibko mate. Additionally, I think he is a Warrior with 1 kill, 2 kills = Star Commander, 3 kills = Star Captain, 4 or more kills = Star Colonel. I would like to see an elemental Trial of Position next.

You are correct with how a trial of position is run tho it’s less - lightest to heaviest first and more warrior -> star Captain tho usually they’ll be placed in an increasing variant of mech up (eg, usually a light/medium to start, heavy next, then an assault or a variant of such).
As for what mechs the cadet gets… it all comes down to the clan themselves.
I know in clan Wolf they assigned Phelan and Natasha Dire Wolfs.
In Jade Falcon Aidan Pryde and his 2 sibko survivors were given Summoners.
And in one of the newer IlClan books I think the cadets were using Rasalhague Dominion home mechs as their one.
But in reality it probably all comes down to whoever’s conducting the trial and what they have or if the person is given a choice in their clan.
I can easily see a Ristar Ghost Bear being given a Kodiak as a way to… “make sure” they get a position as you don’t want to be letting Ristars go to waste now.
13:58 reason they called it a Conjurer vs a Wolverine IIC is literally all because of Clan Wolverine. Remember the Wolverines are the “not named clan” so having a mech named similar to them was a big “no no” so they literally changed it to Conjurer to just not have to mention Wolverine.

I LOVE the Kodiak. However, Every time I bring one in AS, people take it out because they fear it. I find a Kingfisher tends to do better for far less cost

Did a Solaris match with my group. My Wolfhound filled the light role for our entry. My Clan Large Pulse sniped the head off of the heavy and assault on the other team.

13:11 "We don't hide things, we're clan ghost bear." Yes, they do. Any initial engagement against a superior foe they who conceal themselves for an ambush. It's uncommon practice and generally frowns upon but they still do it. For an example a fire falcon pilot might see an entitled trueborn Kokiak pilot and hide behind rock and snow and wait for prefect time strike at it to do as much damage to it as possible before going down.

To be honest override is the best version of Battletech right now, weapon ranges feel too compressed but the rest of rules feel great.

@Death From Above Wargaming: So...When it comes to a Trial of Position, such as the Blooding, you normally earn ranks based on how many kills you make. Fresh out of cadet creche, you would be made a Mechwarrior after your first kill. Two kills would grant you the rank of Star Commander, three for Star Captain. Star Colonel status(four kills) has been achieved...twice. Once by the Black Widow herself, Natasha Kerensky, with the other being a Clan Coyote scientist named Elliot McKibben. The other thing that most nerds might not know, is that upon finishing the Trial of Position, a "ransom" is granted as a reward for winning a Trial of Position. Which could range from a piece of equipment, to a 'Mech, to even creation of a new unit(such as Natasha Kerensky being able to command the 13th Wolf Guards).

The adventures of Star Captain Thor. If hes successful enough in his invasion, he might get to fight for a blood name later on and claim the blood name Becker. Who knows he might even become Star Colonel or later on Galaxy Commander if hes lucky enough.

The wolverine can't be called wolverine because Clan Wolverine is the unnamed evil very bad clan that wanted their civilian casts to have nice things. Also they didn't want to distribute weapons among the clans because the leader of wolverine was attached to this hardware on account of it belonging to her father. There was a trial and I think this is when Nicolas Kerensky was killed by accident. After that they just anihilated the whole clan.

Lightest to heaviest is common but I don't think it's super strict. Aidan Prydes trial is a weird 3v3 that turns into a free for all. Really looking forward to this series!

Wish they put into cannon what mechs are used by each clan for a trial of position.
ACTUALLY, both the Fire Falcon and Conjurer have ferro-fibrous armor and endo-steel chassis, so Thom saying he could core them with an apple "peeler" in factually incorrect. Even if that apple corer (not "peeler" lol) was made of S-Equus Omicron Endo Steel from Terra by RAF Manufacturing Center Providence and Thom had quadruple-strength myomer bundles for muscles (double lol) he could barely scratch the ceramo-latex paint on either battlemech. I am rolling on the floor laughing. EPIC FAIL!

8:10 Hey, yes please move on camera. It's the most important thing to see for following the overall battle. I never understood why you guys cut it. If you have to dump one I don't need to see you roll to hit and track damage, that's bookkeeping. Just say how bad each thing got clobbered when it's done. In contrast seeing where things move and why, *is the tactical part of this tactics game.* Quite often when you just update us on the position of things in the new round I have to go back and look at where they were before. I'm not one of those chess masters who can remember where pieces are blindfolded.
Appreciate the comment - and I get it. It’s feasible in smaller games, but movement can take a significant amount of time to show on camera… like a 90 min batrep becomes 3 hours. That’s why we recap it.
We used to have markers to show the “old position” of the unit… maybe we can bring that back in 2024. I’ll think on it!

What is Override?
We named the newest version of the DFA ruleset Override - getting away from “Destiny” because of the substantial overhaul and to make it more clear where the rules lie (between Alpha and Classic).
