Yes my friends there's something not right with the audio because I was using a new wireless mic for the first time... I'm working to figure out the issue so thank you to everyone who's pointing it out!!
So, where is the world is your garden grown?? That should be mandatory info on your profile page. TiA...

Guys just turn on subtitles
sounds like it's recording in single-channel mode. Had the same issue with a Rode Wireless GO 2 a while back.
I'm so glad you brought up the subject of meat. When! me and my husband started composting back in the 70s when it started being a thing, he farmed and put meat of all kinds in the compost because he said it was like fertilizer. I was appalled the first time I heard people jumping all over the older generations for doing this and treated you like you had a plague. We had some of the best compost you could find and always full of earthworms. He would also go by the cotton mill and get a truck load of the cotton. piles that were out back that was decomposing (cotton meal) because of how good it was for your compost bin.
You are right that egg shells that are just crumbled do not break down in compost or in the garden. But if you powder them with a mortar and pestle or in an electric coffee grinder, so that they become like bone meal, it works.
My neighbor has quite a few quart jars of eggshell dust for his garden.
Man is a wizard with plants.
Viking here explains, in a different video, egg shells must be soaked in vinegar or they won't decompose.
I save the egg shells until I get enough to fill my food processor and grind them into dust with that.
@@senatorjosephmccarthy2720 100% correct. Eggshells are 95% to 97% calcium carbonate which is not water soluble and so not bioavailable to plants and microbes. It is an alkali. Vinegar is acetic acid. Acetic acid reacts with calcium carbonate to produce calcium acetate plus carbon dioxide. Calcium acetate is soluble in water.
@@marlas6711do you do anything like cook them or do you just throw them in a container??
You sir have a radio voice. What a relaxing channel
thank you my friend I'm happy you enjoy!
@@gardenlikeaviking And a face for radio! I kid the people I like.❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I don't want to say how many videos I've watched over the last 2 years on how to compost only to end up more confused and overthinking it to the point of not even trying. Gardening should be enjoyable! You made this so easy to understand and now I can't wait to get started.
I love compost because nothing is wasted! Thank you for confirming to all of us that it isn't super complicated! Nature has been doing this for longer than we can comprehend!
You're a Godsend. I've already said thank-you three times earlier and I'll probably be saying it dozens of times more. My whole perspective has expanded and now my land is full of bountiful riches...for my garden. Thank you!
For my home compost pile, where the kitchen scraps are put, I bought a small electric garden twig shredder, so when the under sink kitchen scaps caddy is full, I take it outside and feed the contents through the shredder prio to putting into the compost bin. This eliminates the egg shells down to tiny crumbs and breaks all the other materials into smaller pieces. So its all mixed up ready for the worms. This way it speeds up the process and all the compost produced is free of large items. So exactly the same process but just adding the shredder for consistency of finished size.
Oh yes, rodent proofing tips are sorely needed where I live! Thanks for making an earnest, honest and entertaining video
Wonderful to hear you call the soil soil! As an English gardener I find references to soil as dirt most strange. Thanks for the video.
Well, y'all talk pretty funny, too. I just heard you call sunglasses "sunnies." It is shorter. Not a bad idea.
I didn’t think I could compost meat and eggs 🤔 I do compost egg shells and yes, they take a long time to break down. I’ve decided I’ll ground them down first before adding them to my compost bin. It’s my first time watching you , I’ve liked and subscribed, thank you I really enjoyed this video. Watching from Australia. 🇦🇺🐨
You got it! JUST follow the expert: God's wonderful design for recycling creation 😊
Man calls it regeneration lol but its been here since the beginning lol! This man knows his stuff!
If you cook and then pulverize with a mortar and pestal. The egg shells do break down rather quickly like within a few months with strong microbes in your grow medium and worms. I only do this with my medical plants as it is labor intensive. Love your channel
This is how the organic gardener Charles Dowding does his composting too. Great video!
You can make large piles and turn once in during the year to make a large mound of fully completed compost. Whenever the temperature of the pile decreases, you add more to the pile (greens with a little brown).
@fredflintystoneea Charles Dowding is a legend. The most humble walking plant encyclopedia, such a wealth of knowledge.
I love how you simplify things. I just don't have room for one of those large 3'x3', 3-section compost bins. This is manageable.
I actually do have room for cubic yard bins, but it's a giant pain in the neck to flip them all the time like you're "supposed to." I have plenty of chores already 🤣
I appreciate vids like this that show people to just do whatever they can with whatever they've got.
Is there mini compost box for patio 😂¿
@@thuandao4243yes! You can do composting in tote bins like Robbie and Gary's gardening channel on YT, or you can use a bokaski compost system which is really small.
@@HollenbergR thanks….I’ve seen a few diy vermicompost , esp extract juice but I don’t have tools for spiget. Last year my friend told me to put vege scraps to dry out, well Seattle has more rain than ☀️ so it ended up a stinky watery experience, I didn’t bury them in dirt layers away from rain.growing in containers is so limited, mostly bc of 80% ⛅️ (
I don’t even know if er solar generator works here¿ too paranoid for gas option. ) beets cilantro no success, tomatoes ok, took all summer to harvest 4 med celery.. 😂
Thank you for clarifying this for me!
Thanks for the simplicity 😊
Thanks for simplifying and clarifying compost
Love the simplicity and clarity of your videos. I'm just a beginner and I appreciate your knowledge and delivery.
Thank you so much for your work on these videos. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
Thank you for saying yes to adding meat! I knew I couldn't be the only one.
Love all your ideas and gardening tips. Thanks. God bless!
Thanks for making it simple!
I am attempting to put in a garden this year. So glad I found you for these invaluable lessons...thank you soo much !!
Thanks so much for sharing. I'm always elated by your videos. Very practical and hands-on deck 👌
Awesome!!!!!
Love the simplicity of it 🌞😎☝🏽🙌🏽🦍🦾
Thank you my friend!!!
New sub just because you made it simple for me. I searched easy composting for beginners and now I'm trying to see what I gotta do to become a Valkyrie because you are awesome
FANTASTIC. THANK YOU!!!
So glad I found your channel! This really simplified it!
yes, more compost videos please! i've heard of a hot compost where you can add even contaminated materials with viruses and diseases, weed seeds and it doesn't matter because the high temperature kills them. that's very interesting
I am doing cold compost, too. Last year's harvest is 20 gallons of compost . Thank you 😊.
Great job on this project ❤
I've been using this method for a while now. It works so well, but there is a side note to it. Seeds don't break down very well in a slow composting system. When you throw in tomatoes, the seeds will absolutely survive for a long time.
free seedlings, awesome
Great thoughts. How long we talkin`?
@@jeroenverbeeck7925agreed. I got some a couple of years ago. Seed saved and those cherry tomatoes are pretty good. Especially halved and roasted.
Thank you for your knowledge. ✌
Thanks again for more of that excellent content
Thank you for the amazing informative video ❤
I do both the fast and slow methods love them both
Your channel changed my whole understanding of Gardening as a way of life...basic and effective and can be done in large or smaller gardens just the same...Thanks!
Thank you for this Tutorial!

I love your videos
So simple and very useful
Great 👍 lot's of information.. thanks for sharing about the compose thing 🤗😊
Love the video! Thank you
Waoooo thank you so much for this detailed explanation on compost. I don't need inorganic fertilizer in my farm anymore.
I pray I get the compost bin to buy in my local here.
Thanks once again.
Thank you for this video, makes composting so enjoyable and easy.
No stress.
Knowledge much appreciated 🙏
YES!!... thats the goal!
@@gardenlikeaviking why is my liquid compost white mold on top is it bad? Should I toss and start over it is a bucket with leaves, branches, vegetable, compost fish, chicken bones etc.
Wow you're fast! Unless you had this video planned a while, I just asked for a compost video days ago. Thank you Mr. Viking Gardener. Good to know I can compost meats and fats (as long as I build the layers properly). Looking forward to your fast compost video in the future.
yes my friend I had the idea brewing in the back ground but you just made me decide it was the right time!!
Great video!!!
Thanks my friend!
I am binging out on your videos. I like your simple philosophy and how you present it. It’s quite entertaining besides educational. My husband and I grow in Tucson, Arizona. Some things here are a bit more challenging but we grow year round. Also funny, I notice you buy seed from Baker Creek….my favorite seed vendor. Thank you for the videos.
Another great video Nate
looking forward to trying this
You are awesome! Thank you!
Another great video. Thank you so much.
You and David the Good provide such great gardening info. Things have gotten so overly complicated in order to take money from people. It's rediculous and doesn't need to be that way.
I appreciate that my friend thank you!
Brilliant as always Nate, green love from Queensland Australia 💚🌲🙏
I'm so enjoying your channel
U always seem to amaze me brother..good info..now I know!!
Thank you! 💚 I love your simple, logical method. I’ve been vermicomposting for 20 years and know that simple is best. 👏🏼🐛☺️
Thank you 👍
Thanks for the information. I didn't know egg shells take years to be usable, have been adding them to the garden dirt. Now I boil, then blender them to tiny lieces, then treat with vinegar before adding to the compost.
Love how simple this method is. We have a heavy treed area where the leafs have created a rich soil we dig holes n add buckets of organic materials n cover with the leafs.
great info!
I worked for Gardeners Supply for some years. Good company to work for.
Great video one of my best new channel this guy is great thanks for the info
Hi viking, I have watched your compost video and as a newbie novice in the garden I'm going to try this.and I will keep you informed.thats for the info.Bully from Scotland UK.
thank yue 🌟 your method is right on tyme 😊

thats what I like to hear my friend!!
Thank you ! 👍🙏💛
Cold composting everything for six years now…works like a charm, only a bit different in that I let the bin ‘rest’ for six months before harvesting the lot, sifting it before bagging. I have four bins rotating and move them the garden also to get the ‘ground’ benefit. Thanks for your knowledge over the years: much appreciated :-))
I know I keep saying this BUT I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! Excellent information! Thank you
its always nice to hear this my friend thank you!
Love it thanks!!
Thanks very useful to me.
My right ear really enjoyed this video :D
Jokes apart, love your videos
was there an audio issue??
HEY NATE, I'M SO HAPPY JUST TO SEE YOU, WRITE KNOW I WANT TO SHARE YOUR VÍDEO & KNOLEDGE WITH A GOOD DOCTOR FRIEND UP THERE, THANK U FOR SHARING, ALL THE BEST 4 U AND YOUR FAMILY
Thank you for sharing. If you don’t have a compost bin, you can use hardware mesh roll up into a big cylinder tube. Cut the bottom 12” up for opening to collect finished compost. Put it by the corner of the yard in shade. Fill up with kitchen scraps and dried leaves. Make sure to keep the pile moist ( just water when you water your garden) you’ll get a lot of compost when ready just collect from bottom.
thank you!!
Thanks for the lovely tips easy peace 👌💐
I love your energy, this was super helpful. Thank you
Got our compost bins (used your link) so ready to get ours started! 😊
You're bursting with life.
This is great information! Thank you for explaining this in an easy to understand way. I have been way over thinking compost. 😂❤~Melissa
Omg, thank you. I was about to give up. Always sounds so complicated, even when they say it's going to be easy. I'm ready now.
yes its sooo easy!!... good luck!
Thank you!!
Great video! Appreciate the insight.
Thank you
100% agreed. Nature will digest everything over time, but trick about making compost is to keep smell to minimum. And there is significant difference between rotten cabbage and rotten meat . That’s why people rather keep their bins vegetable based
Finally someone who is not spreading bs:) !!! Well done!!!
I love your videos thank y0u from South Africa 🇿🇦
Thanks for sharing bror! ✨🙏💖✨
Thanks! 👍👍
So cool!❤
Thanks for sharing!! I just moved and I have to clean the garden area 😅 there’s a bunch of branches and plants from the year before (last tenant) very tedious 😢 having to dig deep to take those useless branches out !
can make some of that into slow compost!!... just be sure not to spread the weed seeds around when cleaning up!
This is the first I've heard of this method and I've seen TONS of vids. Closest is the worm casting method where you grab the vermicompost from the bottom. Love the idea of putting EVERYTHING in there. Maybe I'll put a nasty neighbor in one. LOL - just kidding, besides, he's too fat! I need to "zen" myself and watching you is helping. Great vid!
Don't know why it took so long to find your channel - good take on simplifying compost
hey brother good to see you here!!... Great content on your channel by the way!.. solid advice on peppers and I've used your recipe for "cowboy candy" jalapeños with great success last year!!
Thank you again for or sharing ypur limitless knoweldge you areca power house of informatipn i have learnet in such a short time soooo happy i found you after all this time you are a true Blesssing❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hello Nate. Great information as always. I've tried many many methods and you are right. The dirty little secret about compost is its always made on the bottom. I am always curious to learn something new. I can PM you and give you a great link that probably did more to enrich my knowledge than any thing else.
yes please do that... you can email me
We like easy! Thanks
I live in Anchorage, Alaska and I find that it's more difficult to get things to compost well here. It happens, but it takes a lot longer. I'm going to try this method this spring!
Good video. I admire you guys and gals that can do this. For me...not my cup of tea, I don't have what it takes. In the fall, I put a layer of grass clippings and dry leaves on top of my raised beds and let them rest for our cold Wyoming winters. IN the spring, I go out to a farmer/rancher in my area who makes compost out of cow manuer and sawdust. Good stuff! I can get a ton for $45. I put it in on my beds and work it into the top few inches of the bed a few weeks before planting. My garden loves it! Compost is the key for a great garden. Thanks for the video.
thats a wonderful method if you have the available resources!... but besides just the amazing compost this makes it is the ideal way to recycle all food scraps for people that do not have chickens/hogs...
