For my home compost pile, where the kitchen scraps are put, I bought a small electric garden twig shredder, so when the under sink kitchen scaps caddy is full, I take it outside and feed the contents through the shredder prio to putting into the compost bin. This eliminates the egg shells down to tiny crumbs and breaks all the other materials into smaller pieces. So its all mixed up ready for the worms. the only thing I would add to that , that it is worthy to cover the whole lot if your compost container has an open top . Some videoes You're coming up with man , and the simplicity... so good

in my experience u can put anything in the compost pile, however i do not put oil, or grease...everything else goes to the compost...yes, even orange peels, lemon and or lime leftovers, milk, some types of cheese, yogourt (if is moldy)...egg shells i use for something else...meat just dig a hole deep enough and cover it with the top soil...never have a problem, never have critters coming and digging, never have bad smells on the compost...I cover it with plastic to retain heat...water when it rains and that is it..
Great video, friend! My intuition was that the myth of not composting meat or fats was false. I always wondered why that was the case when, in nature, everything from an animal, the fat, gristle, and meat, decompose and turn to compost.
Thanks my friend! If your bin is secured from predators and rodents absolutely compost meat. I had some roadkill rabbit and squirrels on the street i live on. If you cook and then pulverize with a mortar and pestal. The egg shells do break down rather quickly like within a few months with strong microbes in your grow medium and worms. I only do this with my medical plants as it is labor intensive. Love your channel
Hi viking, I have watched your compost video and as a newbie novice in the garden I'm going to try this.and I will keep you informed.thats for the info.Bully from Scotland UK.
Brilliant as always Nate, green love from Queensland Australia 💚🌲🙏
the only thing I would add to that , that it is worthy to cover the whole lot if your compost container has an open top . Just cover it with the foil or something on a hot summer day , and than also uncover on a rainy day , so it stays wet. It speeds things up nicely. Some videoes You're coming up with man , and the simplicity... so good
Thank you, I'll use your method because I'm a little lazy, and throwing EVERYTHING in, is a motto, kinda, for the path I follow 😁
This was my first video with you. I like the way you present! Straight to the point and with a lot of energy. I will be turning back into you always.
Stay fresh 😂.
Thanks so much for sharing. I'm always elated by your videos. Very practical and hands-on deck 👌
Crazy stuff I love composting: Halloween candy that my kids got bored of, leftover dredge from fried chicken (or fried anything for that matter), and crumbs off the counter and kitchen table. 😄
I live in Anchorage, Alaska and I find that it's more difficult to get things to compost well here. It happens, but it takes a lot longer. I'm going to try this method this spring!
I worked for Gardeners Supply for some years. Good company to work for.
Newbie to composting here: can you do a compost in simply a pile in yard? Or is it beneficial to do in a can?
in my experience u can put anything in the compost pile, however i do not put oil, or grease...everything else goes to the compost...yes, even orange peels, lemon and or lime leftovers, milk, some types of cheese, yogourt (if is moldy)...egg shells i use for something else...meat just dig a hole deep enough and cover it with the top soil...never have a problem, never have critters coming and digging, never have bad smells on the compost...I cover it with plastic to retain heat...water when it rains and that is it..
What do you mean by the egg shells go in the vinegar 🤔? Thanks 👍
Awesome!!!!!
Love the simplicity of it 🌞😎☝🏽🙌🏽🦍🦾
Thank you my friend!!!
❤ your my super hero you make it clear for me as a bigginer God bless you with many years so that you will teach the coming generations
Great video, friend!
My intuition was that the myth of not composting meat or fats was false. I always wondered why that was the case when, in nature, everything from an animal, the fat, gristle, and meat, decompose and turn to compost.
Great video! Anyone else got freaked out by the movement behind him before realizing he's in front of a mirror. 😂😂😂
Thanks my friend! If your bin is secured from predators and rodents absolutely compost meat. I had some roadkill rabbit and squirrels on the street i live on. Picked them up and buried in the compost. 130 degrees now. At the time i was fed up with hot composting and then it got hot lol wu wei. This year gonna build a hot pile once and then just keep adding on top best of both worlds. As always thanks Nate.
So glad I found your channel! This really simplified it!
Hi Nate I’ve just turned my compost, I love it!👍🏻🤠💪💗🔥🏴 steaming!
absolutely my friend HOT composting is such a wonderful thing!!
@@gardenlikeaviking it was 140°f when I flipped it.
Super fast compost: liquify and powderize everything...add wild grasses...add to dirt. Cover with dark trash bag or put in dark container so sun will heat. Turn every day.
How dare you make me think my headphones are broken! "Nobody makes me bleed my own blood"
lol... was there an audio issue??... I don't understand why everyone is making this comment?!!!
@@gardenlikeavikingiI think it’s some form of stupid… spam?
Joel Salatin will Compost an entire cow or a horse or any other animal that dies on his farm by simply dedicating one of the large compost bays to that animal and it is totally covered with wood chips and left until the process is finished. I told my wife that if I die before she does, she can put me in the compost bin, and finally get some use out of me! Lol!
@@garthwunsch lol I found out there actually is some kind of audio issue with this video... I used a new wireless mic for the first time and something went wrong lol...
Thank you, I was told not to add any cooked food to my compostor but you proved them wrong
that's absolutely a myth!!
Would you do a video on making your own compost bin out of a trash can or something for those on a budget?
Thank you for clarifying this for me!
You are awesome, and you broke down everything so well. Thank you
Can you please add a video on how to rodent proof the composter?
I do both the fast and slow methods love them both
Got our compost bins (used your link) so ready to get ours started! 😊
I love your videos thank y0u from South Africa 🇿🇦
THANK YOU for this! I have a screen/wire bin and I was getting discouraged. I'll keep on doing what I'm doing and hope to see worms!
they'll come so long as you keep it moist enough... the wire mesh bins tend to stay too dry for sufficient moisture retention
Oh cool. I live in the forest so I will easily be able to find that awesome gold under the pine needles. It’s so beautiful fertile and black. I bet that would make great fertilizer. ☺️
Thanks for the great info, as usual!! Do you have a video about the vinegar solution for eggshells?

Thanks for the simplicity 😊
Great informative video, I’m new to this gardening but so excuse my amateur question. What is a JLF activator 5:04 ? I looked on your Amazon store but couldn’t find any info. I appreciate all your knowledge brother keep running the race!
I've got a great big compost pile that has to be turned I think I should make myself a couple of bins and do the easy method too.
yes its great to have both methods working at the same time!
Thanks for making it simple!
Nice and simple!
I think the reason why people add more rules is for specific things, like to avoid attracting rodents. But I think I’ll prefer the simple method, like you do, of just recycling everything. (Especially because rodents aren’t a problem for me. We’ve got tons of neighbor cats.)
Could you take all your old potting soil from the year prior and place it in the compost bin with the roots and all? That way it can get broken down with the rest of the compost and in theory rejuvenate your old potting soils each year?
Thanks so much for the learning I got. I'm sharing this.👍🏼🙏😊
Great video one of my best new channel this guy is great thanks for the info
I FREAKING LOVE THE WAY YOU TEACH!❤ SUBSCRIBERS FOR LIFE!!!!!
