- Oh, what a year 2020. It’s hard to find words for it. The video hopefully shows some of the emotions we went through. We had the most beautiful moments with our horses, but also in our private life. Everything was going so well and we were just so happy to call these three AMAZING horses our own.
And from one day to the other, everything has changed. We went to the field to take Don and Makaio out for an adventure... and we found Makaio laying in the grass, dead. Without any visible symptoms.
Makaio has been deeply loved and his loss happened so suddenly and without explanation. This has been very tought for us and we felt trapped in a nightmare - but we knew it was real.
The last two months of the year we were grieving and trying to recover from this, also by giving us new challenges with the training horses Indu and Shadow, to come out of our hole.
Makaio has been an extraordinary horse and this video is also kind of a tribute to him.
It was very important for me to finish this video with all these fulfilling moments, because the memories are all we have now. We’re glad and thankful that we have lived these moments so intense. It’s like I still feel the laughter and the joy we had.
When you look at the date today and watch the video closely, you know why I have uploaded it today... it is a day we saw coming since months. And soon the day has passed.
I don’t want to bee too negative in the caption, but I feel like I want to explain what you see in the video so you can understand.
Only a few days after Makaio died we drove with Estella to the equine veterinary clinic. She was lame and the vet at home hasn’t found out why. It came out that it was worse than the vet suspected it to be and she needed to go in a surgery with an unclear recovery.
This has really hit us at our worst time. Estella hasn’t been seriously lame since 2012 and now everything happened at once. But no matter how we felt, we wanted to be strong for her and do what we can do.
Luckily the surgery went well, but whether she would fully recover wasn’t clear. It was the start from a long rehabilitation phase.
You don’t see a lot from her in the video and from her rehab program, as she is living in our hometown with Tanja’s mum and we come home from time to time. And when we are together with our most precious girl, we often prefer to not film, but just spend time together.
People often say „you are so strong. I cannot imagine going through this“.
I can tell you, I couldn’t imagine before eighter. But when you need to be strong, than you can be strong. Believe me.
It easily happens that there are one, two very bad events that overshadow everything. They can overshadow the whole year. But when you look closely and see all the different days, you see how many extraordinary beautiful moments there have been. Making this video has actually helped me to remember many of them.
These are the moments I want to keep in my heart. So my wish is to you: leave a positive comment below this video. We got so many expressions of compassion already... Please, honor the beauty you see.

I lost my only horse in 2020, and it was hard on me. I finally had the courage to get a new horse in February of 2021, and that horse changed my life. He was a wild American mustang, that nobody could train. I ran into him, and with a little bit of love, he became my boy. Now, I'm riding him, he has learned tricks, and he has just made my upside down world, turn back to normal. He is a sweetie, and no matter what comes, I know he will be mine, and I will be his. I feel your loss. And it may only get a little easier when thinking about Makaio, but there will be more horses, who need loving people like you two.
I lost my beautiful Mare to another this yr what that person doesn't realize is the heartache caused and loss of my family at the time had done and the effect it has put on my already I'll health. I always think of my Mare and just want her to know I'm so sorry for failing her after giving her over 2yrs of a wonderful life and looked after her health issues and getting her trust in humans again she became a dream pony and a joy to own
I am so so sorry for your loss! You were an extraordinary pair!! Sometimes a sudden loss is easier, than your cherished horse suffering with an extended illness. The PAIN however is the same!! May you and your new horse soar into a FUTURE with the making of wonderful memories!! God Bless!!

Während ich dieses Video geschaut habe, habe ich an mehreren Stellen Gänsehaut bekommen oder mir Standen die Tränen in den Augen. Makaio und Tanja so frei spielen zu sehen, war wunderschön 💔 Man merkt wieviel Liebe ihr in die Videos steckt und ich kann mir kaum vorstellen wieviel Kraft es euch gekostet hat, dieses zu Ende zu bringen. Ich wünsche euch so sehr, dass ihr irgedwann zu der Leichtigkeit wie im Winter 2020 zurückfindet.

Something extremely precious that I want to mention is the strengh of your friendship. It's really Team nativehorses, not everyone on her own. It's beautiful to see how you stuck together during all the years and how you are empowering and supporting each other. I also think it's an extremely good quality in (not only) horse trainers to not be "lone wolves" but part of a team and a community. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!

Not only did you save this magnificent & majestic Soul, you gained his trust, friendship, loyalty and love with such patient love & loyalty to him... By watching your videos, I marveled at you taking him to such beautiful locations that reminded him of when he was free to roam & introduced him to new exciting adventures... Riding him rein free & bareback made him feel so free; yet, now with the love of his life on his back... He is awaiting you & his buddies in Heaven where is rearing up, tossing his head, his silky mane & tail flowing then giving alittle buck, then standing still, snorting with his ears pointing straight forward, his magnificent body shining as he remembers your praises of him, your gentle touch, voice, laughter & love... He longs for the day he sees you again sprinting up to you with loving snickers of joy & love as he bends his proud head touching your forehead.... The pic of the sky after he passed, the bright white cloud in the center, appeared to me as him rearing up in Heaven... God bless you & I truly admire your technique of befriending & gaining the trust, loyalty & love of your broken-hearted Mustangs, etc... Was für ein schönes Video! Es muss wahnsinnig schwer gewesen sein für euch. Umso schöner, dass das Video heute an so einem besonderen Tag veröffentlicht wurde. Dass das Jahr 2021 auch kaum besser wird, wusstet ihr ja zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht und hätte man sich auch nicht vorstellen können. I had to put down my 26 year old American Saddlebred in 2020. You never stop missing them. I've had other horses but there is always that one special horse. That was Lady.

IMAGINE, MY MOTHER WAS ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN, MY FATHER ONE OF TEN CHILDREN. THEY WERE FROM NORWAY AND GERMANY. EVERY DAY IS PRECIOUS TO ME AND I MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT. I'LL NEVER FORGET MY FAMILY. CHRISTMASES, THANKSGIVINGS, BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES AND YEARLY FAMILY REUNIONS!! THEY CREATED ME, AND I'M PASSING ALL OF IT ON TO MY CHILDREN. It does bring sadness with joy. But as we know we are only given what we can handle by Jesus !😓💔 loss of my pets are always tough when you love unconditionally !
It is beautifull. But I almost cried. It is so hard too loose a horse, I don't think people who don't own horses understand. I am also very sorry for Loki. I saw his video earlier today. We lost a horse in 2021. And she was a little angel. It was superhard. Altough I did not cry, but it does not mean it did not hurt.

@@marcog6056 ja. Mich haben immer schon Tiere begleitet und auch jetzt habe ich Tiere. Hund und Pferd. Ich lhätte gerne Hühner, die finde ich witzig. Mein Pferd erdet mich und holt mich immer aufs Wesentliche zurück. Dem JETZT., Pferde sind Magie.
