I wasn't even alive for this era of wrestling but I would've loved to watch Iowa during this time. I am hoping to watch an Iowa dual meet in person one day.
As a Philip, SD native, I love watching Lincoln McIlravy wrestle. I remember wrestling with the McIlravys in their basement when he was just a little kid. I graduated 5 years before him with his sister.
? ? How was this prequalifying? Almost my entire comment was about the context of knowing the family. If you don't know or care about Philip then the comment is not for you. Some Philip people who paid attention to Lincoln's career may watch this video and interact with me. It is a shared interest for a specific people group. I don't mind watching other wrestlers, but I come to this video for a specific wrestler, and I commented with others in mind who also followed Lincoln. Personally, I love when people who know an athlete comment on videos of them doing well. For me it adds to my enjoyment knowing more about their lives.
I bought this tape from Iowa Public back in '94 but honestly mostly watched the matches throughout the 80s. In retrospect I wish I had recorded those of course because I remember epic matchups. there's a "best of Iowa" that I also have but it's already on Ytube so i didn't post. I've found very little in the way of 80s IPBN on youtube so if people have these recordings I wish they would post.
danny bosky The PBS affiliate we had in Virginia would broadcast IPTV Wrestling every Sunday afternoon during the season. From the early 90’s to ‘00, I taped them religiously. Doug Brown (RIP), and Tim Johnson were amazing. I learned as much from them, as I did from any coach, camp, or clinic. Great stuff!
@@MBBurchette That's funny. I lived in Va during the 70s and there was zero wrestling on tv...just pro wrasslin' out of georgia and the jeff dane tackle box show on sundays. I guess I lived there in the wrong decade. lol. you're right brown and johnson were great together. I also loved the horn heavy theme song that introduced the matches in the 80s(if anyone out there knows that song let me know what it is!) thanks for your input!
I recorded the match when Terry Brands tilt Prescott from Penn St and ended up winning by tech fall. I spent the spring and summer working on it and won state my senior year in Indiana back in 92. Watching wrestling recordings on vhs was awesome and these videos bring back great memories.
The 12-10 score in the Kolat-Zadick match really doesn't show how Kolat dominated 2/3 of the match. Kolat was wrestling at a different level than Zadick for the majority of the match but then he pooped his pants a bit. Kolat was one of the best ever in American wrestling in the first 2/3 of a wrestling match but his shape always seemed to fall a notch short at the end of the match for some reason. Maybe he was always too amped at the start but his activity and pressure during the first two periods was always just insane. I don't think it was due to a lack of work, training or effort, just seemed to be how his body was wired somehow.
It wasn't 2 his toes came off the mat and his knees became the supporting points. The headgear call was probably made because it sounded bad to the official but it really wasn't that bad. But it doesn't make the official terrible for being human
Former MD wrestler. I was watching the Tucker Carlson interview and noticed his cauliflower ear. Pointed it out to my wife and googled Bobulinski wrestling and here I am. I'll trust a wrestler over a Biden anytime. Also--Kolat is a beast. He taught in Baltimore for years. Now at Navel Academy.
I know you commented a year ago and hopefully you figured this out by now but in case you haven't... when you have a current roster for the dual every guy on that list has to make weight if they don't they forfeit.
Yeah unbelievable. Usually you're talk about how the Iowa guys "wore people down that were supposed to be better" (etc...) and how it was tough to win at Carver arena. Well, it was tough but a big part of it was the mentality the opponent had after realizing the refs might make the match a LOT harder to win! That match against Kolat.... holy shit was that blatant bias against him several times. And that was right after the match where Mena practically picked a contact lens right out of Abe's eye. Ridiculous. Like riding into a town in the old West where nobody is going to be fair to you, and they aren't ashamed of it either.
So help me understand the Ref is from Iowa he's definitely favored Iowa in lot of calls in the match how does a person from the same state ref a big time match yea home cooking for Iowa 😂😂 because it's Dan gable and the mighty Iowa Hawkeyes
Back in the 90’s, it was almost impossible to find NCAA wrestling on TV. I’m glad the Big 10 Channel plays a ton of matches.
Really? I wonder why?

You are a good man for sharing this. Much thanks.
Thanks for watching Sam!
Kolat was attacking non stop. Zadick was defending nicely. Great match!
Tony Bobulinski is on this video! Now he wrestles against the mainstream media.
I wish Iowa wrestling was still on IPT
#2 Oregon State #5 Clarion
Wow, those days are certainly behind us.
Kurt Angle
Tony Bobulinski: still wrestling in 2020 against the liberal establishment
So that IS him! I never forgot the name Bobulinsky.
😂😂 yes he is 💪🙏
Man, somehow I forgot what a beast Mcllravy was.
Mcllravy was a freshman phenomenon at the time national champ 94 and 97. This was his best year I believe.
Thanks for posting!!! Bro
thanks!
Clarion in top 5? Times have changed. Good to see a small school like that strive!
I forgot what a beast McCoy was.
Wow. I forgot about the Hughes Twins.
Who else taped these broadcasts, and then watched them 1,000’s of times?

Clarion Ranked fifth...wow. Love to see that happen again. It's been a long time since Clarion was that good.
The Kurt Angle effect!!
Closest they ever came after that was Sheldon Thomas
I would like to see a return to the days when it was Iowa #1. Iowa State #2, and UNI #5 in the rankings
134 match was bananas

kolat vs zadick: what a sick counter by Zadick when Kolat tried the High C...nice stuff. Front headlock from a High C defense? very nice...

DT C yeah Kolat had a superb work ethic
Wrestling Gold right there, not sure where you found it but thanks for posting!!!
I bought the tape from IPTV back in 94. Thanks for your support!
gold, indeed
Don’t know what happened to The Wrestling Archives channel so this is the next best thing
Terrible reffing in Kolat match: he had 2 with the double-leg at the edge and that 1-point for headgear was ridiculous

@@Fullsendfilosophy it was a takedown

“Dual” is the correct spelling for a wrestling dual. A little thing, but always been a bit of an annoyance when I see the other spelling.
Do well, duel?
When wrestling had cheerleaders
Dan Gable is still trying to get Mangienello out of that chair. Hes been sitting there in his singlet trying to get his wind ever since 1994.
Times change. Iowa has pretty much been PSU's doormat for the past decade, with no end in sight. We are ...
26 years later, Penn State still Cant Field a lightweight and has to forfeit.
Can’t figure out if it’s 1st period or 2nd or 3rd

And Mcilravy's sons chose to be basketball players. What a waste of good genes.
Plot Twist; He didn't want them to wrestle.
That’s 2 all day every day at the end of Kolat’s 2nd period
The "Big Guy' exposer himself, Tony Bobulinski v. McIlravy. Who hits harder? Mac or the media??
crazy how biased the refs were in favor of the hawkeyes during this era.
