The Battle of the River Plate

The first naval battle of World War II took place just off the coast of Uruguay on December 13, 1939 as the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee is cornered in the waters of the River Plate by the British cruisers HMS Exeter and Ajax and HMNZS Achilles.
