Thank you so much for your video! I was getting ready to go to a orthopedic surgeon and pay thousands of dollars to have them do this procedure, but thanks to your video I feel confident I should be able to do it myself!!!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I was born with tarsal coalition and am experiencing excruciating pain during middle age. I quit the profession I loved due to not being able to stand for more the a few hours. It is helpful to learn treatment options.
Hello, I was told my a doctor I may have this. As of the moment I'm 20 years old. If I stand for 5+ hours I start to have great pain in my ankle. You said you were middle aged. Do you think it will get worse as I age?
@@jonnablum1063 I'm 20 and realized I had this when I was 19 and broke my ankle. told me not to get surgery until it got worse as I age. getting another flare up right now so here I am looking up videos on it hoping it will feel better in the next week or so
I've suffered crippling pain in my ankles whenever I need to stand for many hours since I was a teenager. Everyone just said I was lazy but finally a podiatrist diagnosed me with calcaneonavicular coalition..I hate ignorant people who rush to judgement anyway!
Best explanation I found so far! Thanks!!! Yesterday, I finally found out why my feet were having so much trouble and I couldn't start running again. My new podiatrist easily spotted my problem on the X-Rays. Calcaneonavicular coalition! I have been icing and stretching on my own along with eating a plant based diet and he said I had been doing surprisingly well. One more thing a vegan plant based diet helped me with! Great for arthritis and lowering body inflammation!
I had bilateral talocalcaneal and calcaneonavicular. Looks like I had it just as bad as it gets, it was so painful. Between 6yrs and 7yrs I lost my ability to walk and didn't regain the ability until after I recovered from my last set of surgeries when I was 14. I had cast braces, medication and surgeries, I missed out on a lot of childhood. Thanks for explaining my deformity. Thought I'd give insight as to what it's like to suffer from tarsal coalitions. I'm so grateful that this condition is completely treatable, it just takes time.
Ah yes finally people understand what my pain I have to deal with on the daily. I had surgery on November 5th and now I'm 1 month and 11 days in feeling alot better now.
@@jhaquemontgomery1812 I have a big wedge on the top of my foot I was told it was from the arch they put in my foot. My ankle is alot better I can walk before tho it was in alot of pain.
I wish I'd known about this so much earlier. All my life I never had a spring to my step, much of a jump and was always a slow runner. PE teachers thought I was just lazy. Only sport I could really excel at was wrestling because I could plant my feet and push. After a wreck at 41 where my feet were immobilized for healing, I barely could get through a shift at work without debilitating pain. Found out I had calceonavicular coalitions in both feet, and arthritis had settled in while they were immobilized. etodoloc and IB barely made a difference and being non-weight bearing for 6 weeks after surgery was a non-option. Turmeric with bioprene has made a night/day difference and allowed me to work mostly without pain, unless I"m up and down a ladder all shift. Still have lost about half the flexibility I had before, but at least I can still walk and work without much issue. No one ever thought of having my flat feet checked out as a kid though, even with the ankle sprains and other issues I had.
I'm having surgery on my right ankle at the end of March. I have a tarsocalcaneal coalition that's fibrous, which apparently isn't common. Because I am having to shift weight onto my left leg and ankle, it's beginning to hurt. Thank you for explaining this Dr. Ebraheim.
This was very helpful, my 9 year old daughter was just diagnosed with coalitio calcaneovicularis, bilateral. She can operated later this year, I'm just trying to find information if the surgery will help.
I wish her all the best! I was bilateral with both a talocalcaneal and calcaneonavicular coalition. It was very painful. I got my first surgeries in 2010 when I was 10 and then again in 2014. Keep a monitor on her mental health. I was really sad I grew different, I became depressed and got bullied because of my tarsal coalition. Take care.
@@samimerrett3235 My daughter has same issue but she isn't having pain as of now and doctors adviced wait for surgery till maturity. How is your condition and relative pain post surgery? how are you feeling in terms of taking steps ?
actually there are three types of coalitions. not two. the one not mentioned is the one that I have which is the rarest and that is congenial talonavicular tarsal coalition. and it always seems to get left out as if no one has it. granted it's a small percentage that suffers from it but we do still suffer from it.
i have this and i’ve been on cortisone shots twice a year for 2-3 years it helps the pain so much but the shots only last like 4-5months. they want to fuse my subtalar joint so i won’t be in pain anymore . idk :(
I have them in both feet. I got my left done 4 years ago, and it's incredible. No more pain! Now I got to get the right done. It honestly just slows me down at times and feels like a stump that hurts. Luckily we have good doctors that can fix it. Can't wait, I will soon
