I started up my 1999 F350 with the 7.3L today cold just to see how it would do. My phone said -6 here in chicago at the time, fired up just fine. Granted she’s atill a baby at only 150K on the odometer. I had another idea for your $1,000 truck challenge. You should get the riff raff diesel HPX. It’s only $60 and it’s a tube that connects the 2 cylinder heads together so the high pressure oil has less pressure spikes. Really cuts down on injector noise.
I fired up my truck today it was -21 and no problems it was not plugged in I also have a hut re-duty glow plug relay and fired right up
Mines got 409k starts every morning 3-4 second crank . No smoke subzero temps it's all about maintance.5w-40 oil really helps with severe cold temps.
If you get a new starter you should get a new 6.7 starter they crank the motor over a lot faster and could last longer similar price too.
Check your coolant ! Also sexy truck I have one too here in San Antonio!
Why don’t you plug in your block heater? I can’t imagine why your starter is screwed up 😂🤣🤠
I started mine at -5 she fired right up didn’t have block heater plugged in either

Some fresh batteries would make her start up nice and easy
