    In case you guys were wondering if these documentaries were made by a team of people, or if I had hired narrators or other team members as the channel has grown - there's a sneaky mistake thrown in this video that shows I still am just one person doing all of the researching, writing, narrating and producing, and only human 😄

      Hi HT, I would like to see what happened to the Anglo Saxon exiles post 1066 who became the Bulk of the Varangian Guard, I know they were rewarded for good service with lands on the NE Coast of the Black Sea but they kind of disappear from History after that, Maybe a stupid and obvious question, But I'm curious if they were the Founders of Georgia? Due to both England and Georgia having the George Cross Flag

      @@Ride2Vibe Sorry for answering so late. I'm fine with letting ads show up, to support hard work / well done content. Unless there's so much of them it becomes impossible to watch the work itself. Which ultimately deserves both the content audience and creators. I.e. kind of shooting yoursef in the foot. Also I do support a few independant content creators via paid subscription or Patreon yes, not via YT "Premium", "Superbium" or "Megatherium" so long as Google is first and foremost an ads company.

      Romans at that time where deeply corrupt they had no favors with god and got what they deserved.
      Goths Huns Turks completely devastated the empire into non existence.
      That is why all modern day nations have very strict laws against corruption not to let their nation fall like Rome did.

    Hi. Love your videos, they are GREAT! I have a side note commentary, Fritigern took over as ruler of the Thervigian Goths..(..)..I immediately heared/saw the resemblant of the ruler in Britain who invited the Saxons/Angels, Vorteigern...Is it a anglic/saxon version of his Celtic/Romano name...or was he of Germanic blood also? Fritigern...Vorteigern...pretty close languistic...

    • @HistoryTime
      @HistoryTime  4 роки тому +1

      Chalex08 An interesting point! We’ll never know but perhaps Vortigern himself was a Britonised Germanic auxiliary who ‘went native’ becoming a part of the Romano-British elite. Guy Halsall talks about the possibility of the initial first wave of Saxons coming across to Britain back in the 370s and 380s to fight under the command of Magnus Maximus, so there is a decent enough amount of time for there to be a settled population of Romano-Britonsed Saxons established amongst the ruling classes of lowland Britain by the time their mainland brethren began crossing over into Britain in the mid 5th century. The entire period is extremely complicated and becomes even more so the more you think about it! Thanks for raising this thought provoking point. I’d highly
      Recommene Worlds Of Arthur by Guy Halsall for many more interesting tid bits like this. Cheers!

    An episode on the roman expedition to arabia felix, now called yemen. I have heard they marched south along the wst coast of arabia , and were supplied by sea by the roman navy, did this really happen?

    The Goths are cousins of the Slavs who were only forming as a nation at their time. They fought and pushed each other around the world, and they still continue doing so. I see in this documentary a very good explanation of today's conflict between East and West. In fact, Goths never stopped coming back against the Slavs, and viceversa.

    Why history time ? Why do you such great videoes . But yes again you make an awesome . Well researched . But again. So hallo from Denmark I Can also link Denmark to history of the roman Empire . As tradition states that the cimbri (Who toghether with teutones fought the roman repuplic between 113 and 101 bce) came from northern Jutland . No one knows why the cimbri migrated South . Some theories talk famile or over population . But cimbri migrated South . And eventully they entered gaul and Spain . Where they raided . This brought them into conflict with the romans ... And after a series of battles . Where the cimbri and teutones defeated several roman armies . Their armies were finally defeated the roman consol Gaius Marius in 101 bce in northern Italy . But also the germanic thribe the herules is said have come from Scandinavia . According the gothic historian Jordanes, the herules came from modern southern sweden and the danish Island if Bornholm . They also migrated South and settled on Black sea coast. And in the year 261 . The herules with fleet attacked and raided Athens . Where they did huge damage to puplic buildings and agora . And the herules was among the tribes (like the goth ) that entered the roman Empire in third century and settled down ...

    Maybe a little bit too melodramatic in style. But nowhere near the overly bombastic overly simplified crap of TV documentaries of the last 15 or so years. So big thumbs up.
    And you don't hear many "according to" "apparently"or sources being mentioned in Hollywood documentaries.
    Btw: does the word "Hunting" come from the Huns? Never thought of that.

    The Romans and various tribes learned from each other. Empires are too often represented as conquering due to "being on top of their game" militarily, but the learning curve was experienced by both, and I note a historic and laudable defeat by Germans of Romans that insured they'd never return.😊
