One question. What would you recommend using for core in order to use less clay?

Paper will work well as a core. Make sure you dry project slowly when use paper core or it will crack

What kind of glue can I use to fix air dry work?

Try superglue and paint over it

Clay shrinks when drying and without hole project will crack
