What a absolute gem of a video ❤ I have never seen such rare footage of the Dovey Junction and Aberdovey line to the harbour 👍 Spent many happy years as a nipper in Barmouth in the 60s and as a teenager in Aberdovey in the 70s, this brought back such great and happy memories, thank you ❤
The Cambrian Coast Express. One of the great steam railway journeys of the past. 8hrs 30mins from Paddington to Aberystwyth. I wonder why there is so little interest shown in this marvellous journey by railway historians.? It makes the Kent Coast expresses, and many others, look like the suburban services they were. Great Video/film. Well done for making it.
I loved every mile, especially across along the south side of the Dyfi estuary, watching the Pwllheli portion converging on us and going past Bilston Steel Works which was glorious…
I have just completed one of my bucket list ambitions of travelling the Cambrian from Welshpool to the (now) extremes of the line, Pwllheli and Aberystwyth in two separate journeys. To say the route is beautiful is an understatement the countryside can only be appreciated from a train, you need to be able to dedicate time to appreciate the hills, rivers, trees, and lovely houses etc, you cant do this from a car. The Pwllheli route is particularly gorgeous, the hours just seem to fly by. I highly recommend it.
I find it irritating as opposed to unwatchable. It seems to last until 06:00. The footage is generally pretty good quality with lots of interest to keep me gawping at it. Wished I'd been born in time to witness such sights (not that I'm not grateful for the eras I did experience- I want to have witnessed it all from the start!). Many thanks for sharing and please share more if you have any. 😺

Did Birmingham to Tywyn in 1961…..unforgettable!
I don’t remember fewer than three coaches at Dovey Junction from Aberystwyth for the Up CCE! And four in summertime.
First part unwatchable due to frame slippage
