Hi Gen, I’m playing KGPA for the 1st time this afternoon. Thanks for posting the course layout. I struggled to watch because I was pissed at the gender discrimination. Even though you are a professional player, ANYONE should be able to play off of any tee in my opinion. Thanks for pressing this issue and changing the policy. You are a true pioneer.
Gen your videos on UA-cam and insta are awesome. You have such an awesome swing and I love copying your training tips. But most of all your bubbly smiling personality keeps us coming back. Big fan from Australia, keep up the great work
My 1st time watching your videos, and I can't believe someone complained about which tees you were hitting from. It's absurd! Great video. Your commentary is insightful and interesting. Keep up the great work.
The person who complained is ridiculous. Probably some guy whose ego was hurt by the fact that you could play him off the blue tees and still destroy him by 20 strokes.
"I know for a fact that this is something I can rely on - I know that I can hit that draw shot." - said none of the people complaining about you teeing off from the blues.
You should be able to play from any tee you like. I guess those who complained must be jealous of your game. Like you, I can’t believe these attitudes still exist. No wonder many are put off playing golf. Keep it up Gen, great video.
I've seen some evidence of some older folks actually getting mad just because it's a female in front of them. They actually see it as a men's game and will mock women in a way that they would never address a man for fear of getting their chin cracked. That makes me really mad.
Bernard Shuford I actually was playing with a young college girl we kept pace with the group in front of us. Actually had to wait on them, some old man behind us came up to us screaming that we hadn’t tee off yet. He absolutely belligerent and hateful. It was awful.
Nice video. The "tee box fuss" is so illustrative of medieval mindsets in some golf clubs. I happen to play regularly with my pro for on-course training and she plays as well (makes the experience more friendly). Once we were playing with 2 guys who did not know she was a pro. I still laugh when I remember their expressions after she hit her first drive and a couple of irons.
Nice videos! Glad you followed up and had them change their policy regarding women hitting from blues. If women need to show handicaps to hit from blues, so should men! Also, I’ve noticed that you prefer to hit a 50 yd 3rd shot vs. a full club on long par 5s. Can you comment on a future video about pros and cons for you on this strategy?
I love your positive attitude during the rounds. Most people would have let that get to them. So glad you used that to practice short pitch shots. That very same thing happen to me when I was told to play from the white tee. After 12 holes, one of the members came up to me and said “I have never seen anyone hit all the fairway and green in regulation before”. I laughed and used that to practice my short game as I told him, I usually play from the blue tee. It was a short course, but staying calm help. Love this video
Such a great message at the end there Gen. Don’t let those losers bother you. They’re probably jealous and not even half the player you are. Keep doing your thing. You’re an inspiration.... I like your trainers too!!😉🤙🏻
100%. I'm around there, I'll never play the longest tees and if it's wet, or I just fancy something different, I'm fine on the short ones. I get the odd comment. I feel for the casual golfers who don't even know they can play off the short tees and would have a much better experience if they did.
Don't forget about PGA TOUR Slow ass routines only to duff it 2-4 times... on a PAR 3! It's so frustrating these idiots going to the tips and barely carrying the forward tees, exactly the reason why we have 5-6 hours rounds now!
@@iLovettGolf You are a golf snob if you think people who can't play scratch golf should hit from the forward tees, the whole point of golf is that players with different handicaps can play together, it wouldn't be very sociable if I played with better players of the same gender and we all played from different tees

And Gen as to your play on the course, I really enjoyed watching as you are pretty close in distance to this older man, but way more accurate and yet not being a regular, you fell victim to the same challenges, most specifically on the hills course. Most of the holes are weirdly elevated in such a way that they are a half, full or even sometimes two clubs more than the yardage suggests for the approach shots to the greens or par threes. Perfect examples as you erred on the par 5 6th and the par 3 8th. Also most of the greens have a very strong grain, primarily running back to front of green, thus your chip shots coming up short. Can be a nightmare chipping from back of greens. So a lot of nuance to manage, and yet a great challenge always! Scoring 36 points + on Hills and lakes is a great score! Love your video's!
Tempo, target, and commit great advise. I'm a 10 hcp, and if I saw your practice swing I would shut up and sit down. Glad you stood up for yourself. Come to Australia you would be very welcome to play off any tee

Congratulations on making a difference! Discrimination in any form is wrong, and I am impressed with how well you handled it. Even more impressed you did not give up and helped pave the way for the next woman pro that plays there. Looking forward to the time when any person can play any tee they want. Only restriction on a tee box should be skill and time of play; certainly not sex. You have a new subscriber!
Great 👍 video Gen..love it 😀.(Thanks for sharing your story of what you went through, totally ridiculous but important to know what happens in the real world. )
Don't go back to that course, it's just ridiculous. I could understand if she was an amateur who hits drives like 170 yards, but she is a pro golfer...
@@UnknownMoses The point was that they assumed she didn't hit the ball far enough to be playing from the back tees. Also yes length matters because the farther you are from the whole after your tee shot the harder it is to make a par. That is why the better you are the farther back you tee from.
You are SOOO adorable and you sound and speak like my BFF - an ethnic Chinese from Indonesia. I watch and listen to you and am so envious of your course management and golf IQ. Keep up the good work, Gen! I’ll learning so much from you!...❤️👍👍
It's incredibly cute when you clean the wedge with the tips of your shoes before you hit it. But seriously: Thank you very much for your videos, from which I learn so much about tactics and technique!
Living in San Antonio TX and walking on to any course you always have a chance to play with different people. The times I have had the best time is playing with women who are either building their knowledge of the game or better than me and killing it on the course. Total crap this course felt the need to keep you from playing blues because clearly you have the talent, but I have to assume it is a different culture you are dealing with there. Your attitude about it is admirable!
The sad thing is that your dad or anyone else didn’t even tell the course you were a pga pro... just wait when they see you on your! Keep up the great work, you’re amazing!
Okay, I think I understand. The tempo is not only something confined to the few second before a shot, it is an attitude that you should carry throughout the round. I might dare to say even before you step onto the course.
Hello Gen, I appreciate that you shared this with us. I believe this rule says more about poor organizational management than it is about gender bias. When rules are made, gross generalities are used to establish by-laws and protocols. My guess is that a board member complained and the staff had little choice over this tyrannical beast who was somehow vested in this stupid rule. As a management consultant, I have worked for over 15 years to convince leaders not to rely on exceptions to ensure fairness. While having management making regular exceptions to silly rules works most of the time, it puts organizational staff at great disadvantage; they can be fired or penalized for making the right decision at the wrong time. This approach is reckless and we see it in government too. They ask management/staff to make judgement calls that put them at risk of losing the very role they are placed in. In the end, it politicizes every single management decision. Crazy. So how could this be fixed, such that the impression of systemic bigotry, racism, etc. is not given, when in fact it was likely lazy short-sightedness that led to the rule. While your readers may feel I am making excuses for such obvious gender bias, I am speaking from experience. I have seen many inclusive organizations put in place similar rules ... not even realizing that gender based rules lead to gender bias. Similarly, age based rules lead to ageist bias. Still, you are unlikely to see performance-based metrics as handicap or pace of play require effort on their part to track; albeit the correct way to solve the problem. Everyone experiences bias. It is how we respond that matters. And you handled it perfectly. For my personal example, I offer the following. At 11 years old, I was playing to a single digit handicap. Still, club rules would not allow me to tee it up with my father's morning group because I was too young (not of driving age 16 years old). Probably a good generalization, but only one of the 16 guys cared about me joining them week after week. So once the complaint was filed, I could no longer play with this group of seniors whose average handicap was likely 28! No worries, more time with better players as the skilled players who waited for the 11am loll welcomed me into their group. Although I lost more money playing skins with them, I did learn a great deal. I write this to encourage persons not to see this as 'systemic bias', which of course it is .... superficially. Rather look at this as a weakness of 'rule-based authoritarianism'. 'Rule of Law' is clumsy at best and tyrannical at worst. Instead, guidelines and themes should be offered to management/staff and they provided the responsibility and authority to run things as they should be run. A focus on the individual and not the collective should be the norm, but we will not see this so long as lawyers are asked to compose the protocols by which organizations operate.
Admirable that you contined to play the level of golf most of us aspire to in the face of such small mindedness and outdated attitudes. Good luck to you
Hey you played at my club! KGPA does have many uptight members. Sorry to hear of your bad experience. The greens indeed do not break as much there. Anyway nice to see how a pro would play the course. Keep up the good job!
This course should be hung out in the social media for this so the club realizes that what they did was embarrassing. And no-one should go and play there. No idea if they need the money from green fees.
You were playing right in front of my flight at that time. And it seemed that i know your flightmates quite well. We were so shocked to know that somebody was complaining on you which for us doesnt make any sense. It's good that you show it to the whole world how low mentality the person who made the complaint. It's been a pleasure even to play behind your flight anyway.
Hi gen...kgpas members loved to complaint. ....as usual.... government pensioners..... always thought that they are still on top of the world.....but thx gen....u guide me to better game....love you.....maybe we will have a game at bukit unggul someday
First time watching your videos and I am shocked at what happened to you on this course. I would have had a tough time finishing my round there and definitely would not be returning. Good for you for sticking it out....absolutely ridiculous what you were subject to in my opinion
In love with your content. Be making my game debut as a total newbie next week. What a mind theraphy! Totally change my approach to the game, hopefully i can learn much from the game and be positive regardless the scores.
I'm Irish and 42. I've lived in Australia, Singapore, now in America and I have played golf for over 30yrs to a good level (currently off 5). While in Singapore I experienced a few outdated incidents that were people trying to flex some superiority complex that as a guest of the country I had to suck up. Please don't be dishearten; this doesn't exist in most places and as a man, I apologise and hope we as a gender improve our behavior ever day to match the level of grace of our ladies. What tees a person plays from is no one else's business and only semi-related to how far a person can hit the ball or how much punishment they want for that day. You are a fine player and I hope during a round you can block distractions out of your mind like the greats of this game but once the round is over don't be afraid to stand up for your opinions. Best of luck with your channel
That was uncalled for. They are just jelaous because you hit farther from the guys. I couldn't believe the marshall succumbed to it. Don't let them steal your peace
Gen handled the situation like a champ! The management should be reminded of the evolution of membership at the most exclusive courses such as Augusta National. Progress and grow the game or get left behind and forgotten.
Great video, pink tee blue tee grey tee complaint or no doesn’t matter you played a good round and it looked like you had fun that’s all that counts, playing with your dad, he must be so proud. I take my 5 year old with me all the time she loves it
Glad there was a positive ending to the out-of-date practices of limiting women to specific tees. Golf is hard, you love the game, you have great potential and you are a Tour player. Much respect for your abilities.
Your attitude and golf game couldn't be more wonderful! People should play within their own group not worry about what is occurring ahead or behind them. It sickens me that women are still treated as less-than when in truth your golf skill is more-than most! Me and my friends would welcome you in our group anytime and would appreciate you as the wonderful person and golfer that you are.
KGPA, a buddy brought her wife there for a round, wasn't allowed to tee off because wife wearing sleeveless. Had to go to the pro shop and buy a 'proper' shirt in order to be allowed to tee off. So ladies be warned..
High or No Handicap Tee, Mid Handicap Tee, Low Handicap Tee, then rate the handicap tee grouping for male and female separately. Then if a low handicapper wants to play on either of the other tees, its their choice. It would also give players with higher handicaps something to aim for. Gen your Vlogs are the best on youtube by a mile, always learn loads of info and nuggets which I can add to my game.
@@GenevieveLingGolf Our U.K. golf club has got men’s tees measured for ladies so they have their own slope index. Totally unrequired comment from that golf club! We want more people to play golf!
Thanks for your transparencies in this video and for your positive attitude and comments about the complaint against you. Very mature of you to turn lemons into delicious lemonaide. Couple takes I’d like to mention. First, splitting the tee boxes in the foursome would, in my opinion, slow your group’s play more than if you all teed from the same tee box. So pace of play should not cause a person to complain about the tees you used. Second, it was good that the course amended their rules for carded pros. The course could do nothing but enforce their regulations that existed at the time and while absurd, they had to do what they did. Commending them for acting fast and fairly with the revised rule. Hopefully the complainer is happy too. Very nice course and thanks for the tips. ⛳️
Nice videos! Question... since you draw the ball, why do you get on the right side of the tee box to hit four shot? Most people who hit a draw get of the left side of the tee for a right hand golfer.
Personal preference. Some holes the right side suits my eye better, some holes the left. I know for people who hit draws, they tend to go to the left side as it opens up the fairway but I think that sometimes makes me aim too far right!
Yup - and at least all long holes (par 4 and 5) should have at least 5 or even 6 tee boxes in order to seperate the players (male OR female) according to the handicap classes (very high handicappers in the front and the single digits at the very back). Imagine how frustrating it must be for a woman with single digit handicap always playing from the same front one or two blocks... On the other hand, how frustrating it is for a male beginner having to tee off from the blocks further back and hitting it just 100m or 100y - doesn't help with the frustration level for the round...
@@gasty_vom_asty Isn't it odd, why don't men start off from the most forward tees too? Probably because they have been termed as "ladies tees" but golf would be so much more enjoyable if beginners (men or women) could start off from the front tees
i could not agree more i as a 23.7 handicap old golfer would not stand a chance in hell against a lady single figure golfer playing from the forward tees it should be me from the forward tees not the lady
Yes! Then it gives you another reason to be determined to get better as you could feel like you are being promoted by earning the right to play on the further back tees. I would be permanently on the reds :)
I’m glad to hear they changed that rule. Actually I think all people should play their skill level. When I started my son off at 3 years old, he played from 50 yards out. He’s now 11 and play from the lady tees. He’s been hitting since 9 months, but I wouldn’t let him on the course until he was able to control his ball. Some people egos are so big they complain about the stupidest things. Keep working hard.
Sorry to hear that you have been told to play from the red. I always thought that tee-boxes should be played base on your handicap. Anyway, I loved to see you play, even a Gen from 2 years ago 😀💛
we are here to enjoy & have fun and create a loving supportive community - well said - noce vlog again Gen - and despite the tee rules, you created a positive change - so kudos
Haha sometimes, when i'm too lazy to pace up to the green 😅 Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about in my opinion! Way better to know the distance and be confident in the shot that you are about to hit then hit a shot and still be thinking about what distance you want it to go.
This may be the case at a country club. I would just talk with management before you play so they know your a tour player. That way if anyone complains they can tell them your better than they are and to mind their own business. I know at a public course, as long as pace of play is fine it shouldn't matter. My first time watching and loved the video. Thanks!

Only restriction on a tee box should be skill and time of play; certainly not sex. You have a new subscriber!
Thanks for sharing a great video of KGPA. Refreshing insight from a tour Pro. Played there several times. Ignore the haters!
Great 👍 video Gen..love it 😀.(Thanks for sharing your story of what you went through, totally ridiculous but important to know what happens in the real world. )
Shameful practice requiring women to hit only from the red tees. Wow! Time to join the 21st century.
Don't go back to that course, it's just ridiculous. I could understand if she was an amateur who hits drives like 170 yards, but she is a pro golfer...
@@cobra7282 How far you hit a drive should not matter if you are near par
@@UnknownMoses The point was that they assumed she didn't hit the ball far enough to be playing from the back tees. Also yes length matters because the farther you are from the whole after your tee shot the harder it is to make a par. That is why the better you are the farther back you tee from.
You are SOOO adorable and you sound and speak like my BFF - an ethnic Chinese from Indonesia. I watch and listen to you and am so envious of your course management and golf IQ. Keep up the good work, Gen! I’ll learning so much from you!...❤️👍👍
You're a pleasure to watch, Gen. From any tee. I'd be humbled and honored to buy you an ice cold GREEN tea afterwards. Keep hitting them!
👍👍👍👍👍
It's incredibly cute when you clean the wedge with the tips of your shoes before you hit it. But seriously: Thank you very much for your videos, from which I learn so much about tactics and technique!
Thank goodness you filmed it haha. Evidence.

WhataPlayyyaa..I love your smooth swing. You and Golfsidekicks are my favorite golf channels. Keep up the great work.
Great video Gen! I am glad you were able to get the rules changed.
I'm really glad the course made that decision and I'm glad you included the info at the end of the video. Keep grinding Gen.
Wow. Time flies!
Send these guys video of you playing from the tips in Texas, Gen!
The sad thing is that your dad or anyone else didn’t even tell the course you were a pga pro... just wait when they see you on your! Keep up the great work, you’re amazing!
The tempo of this video is as smooth as your Tempo! Thanks for the very comfortable attitude and play!😀
Okay, I think I understand. The tempo is not only something confined to the few second before a shot, it is an attitude that you should carry throughout the round. I might dare to say even before you step onto the course.
There are many GUYS who should be playing from the red tees! You have tons of ability Gen.
I love the way you swing the club
Keep up the good job!
definitely need some practice to read those greens well!
Your club needs to change its rules. Forcing Gen to play the reds is stupid. Absolutely stupid.

First time watching your videos and I am shocked at what happened to you on this course. I would have had a tough time finishing my round there and definitely would not be returning. Good for you for sticking it out....absolutely ridiculous what you were subject to in my opinion
You played a good round and were instrumental in bringing needed change to the course. I'd call that job well done. Kudo's to you.
In love with your content. Be making my game debut as a total newbie next week. What a mind theraphy! Totally change my approach to the game, hopefully i can learn much from the game and be positive regardless the scores.

What a great vlog. You make the game look so simple.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING GOLF COURSE
Gen handled the situation like a champ! The management should be reminded of the evolution of membership at the most exclusive courses such as Augusta National. Progress and grow the game or get left behind and forgotten.
Great video, pink tee blue tee grey tee complaint or no doesn’t matter you played a good round and it looked like you had fun that’s all that counts, playing with your dad, he must be so proud. I take my 5 year old with me all the time she loves it
All golf courses & driving ranges are closed. It is so nice to see you play & so smooth. Wonder how to improve so that I can enjoy the game more.
I'm happy to hear you got them to change their policy! Good job!
KGPA, a buddy brought her wife there for a round, wasn't allowed to tee off because wife wearing sleeveless. Had to go to the pro shop and buy a 'proper' shirt in order to be allowed to tee off. So ladies be warned..
If they tell you not to play off xyz tees it’s just jealousy,,,, your game is amazing Gen!
Just tell them you identify as blue tees next time.
😂😂 hilarious
what the heck? I'm sorry to hear about this experience... Good on you for taking the higher road!
Genevieve Ling that makes sense! Thanks for the response.
The tee box a person uses should be based on their handicap, not the ignorant prejudice of some halfwit hacker. Keep kicking butt Gen!
@@GenevieveLingGolf yup, that's the only reason, just the naming.
i could not agree more i as a 23.7 handicap old golfer would not stand a chance in hell against a lady single figure golfer playing from the forward tees it should be me from the forward tees not the lady
Yes! Then it gives you another reason to be determined to get better as you could feel like you are being promoted by earning the right to play on the further back tees. I would be permanently on the reds :)
Never heard of this, but I definitely can think of a few gentlemen at the local club I would love to make this complaint on.

yes the 25hcp guys that drive up in a Porsche and $1200 clubs and can't hit the fairway or pitch from 100yds.
@@moonlanding-69 I'm feeling targeted by everything after "and..." ;)
I’m glad to hear they changed that rule.
Imagine telling an LPGA caliber player that she has to hit from the Red tees...good lord. I don't think I could even get those words out of my mouth.
What a monster putt on the first hole. 🤩
Do you typically use a rangefinder in under 100 yards pitch shot? I always wanted to use it but I sometimes felt embarrassing.
Haha sometimes, when i'm too lazy to pace up to the green 😅 Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about in my opinion! Way better to know the distance and be confident in the shot that you are about to hit then hit a shot and still be thinking about what distance you want it to go.
Genevieve Ling Thks for the advices, love your vlogs!
This may be the case at a country club. I would just talk with management before you play so they know your a tour player. That way if anyone complains they can tell them your better than they are and to mind their own business. I know at a public course, as long as pace of play is fine it shouldn't matter. My first time watching and loved the video. Thanks!
