What stands out the most for me is when Mary Ann fell on the stage after imitating Ginger from The Two Ginger Grants episode. The other men just sat there and Gilligan sprang up, ran to Mary Ann and helped her off the stage. Maybe saying he was a hero then is a bit stretched but what a gentleman. Lol
I would say the character of Gilligan is unselfish, kind and loving. That makes for a hero. I wonder if Bob Denver ever knew when he took this role that he would be so famous well past his departure from this world.

Isn't it amazing how Little Buddy's red shirt always gets ripped to shreds, 3:23 but the very next episode and even the next scene his red shirt is always clean , pressed and looks brand new no worse for wear.
Gilligan is a hero in my book. I love the way he always sticks up for the Skipper like when he decided not to go to the Howell's party when the Skipper's invitation was accidentally lost in front of their hut.
I always appreciated the fact that when all the other castaways tried to take a big bag of gold with them (even the professor who told them about the weight limit on the raft in the first place), Gilligan is the only one who didn't try to take any gold. :)

I remember when I read Gilligan's Island was cancelled, not due to poor ratings, but in order to make a slot available for Gunsmoke. What a lousy, sticking deal that was!
The Skipper may want to give Gilligan a little more credit. I do like his comment to Gilligan though........"Gilligan's the only one I know who can snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory."
Gilligan was a good guy deep down. I always thought he was more sensitive and feeling than the Skipper. As for the Professor, he was a nerd and Mr. Howell was always looking after himself and his empire.

Sound of Quacking, season 1: Gilligan kept the duck alive when the others wanted to eat it for dinner. They were short of food and thought the plants were poisonous until the duck ate the plants. The professor then determined the plants were okay to eat and the day was saved by little ole Gilligan.
Gilligan was a good guy overall despite his screw ups. He usually got in trouble when he tried too hard. Too bad for the Skipper who got the brunt of most of it.

A lot of times Gilligan got it right and the Skipper ignored him. Like the time he tried to signal the Skipper that the bank robber guest was up to no good when the Skipper wanted the radio and the news was being aired at that time about him. That was with guest star Larry Storch.
I'm only twenty and have been watching Gilligan's Island and star trek for my whole life, I actually just said something to my family about the black and white episodes and the theme song leaving out the hottest character 😶
It's amusing that Gilligan can mess up efforts to be rescued from the island, and at the same time, save the castaway's sorry asses. I still ponder why I like this show when everything about it is so insanely ridiculous.
What about the episode where Gilligan saves this young native woman and then she becomes Gilligan's slave. Everyone on the is,and is so jealous and then Gilligan has to fight for her. I don't know the name of the show but another good one.

I also still remember when I first saw a silver mylar made school binder sticker in the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk casino. It was found on the vending machine glass display case. This school binder sticker showed Popeye fascinating an attractive young blonde hair crystal blue eye young woman in her swimwear. "Well, blow me down." Popeye always has a habit of saying that. Olive oil was going to hit Popeye with a rowboat ore, just for fascinating this blonde hair crystal blue eye woman down on the beach. He was definitely cheating on Olive oil. I once fantasized about Willie Gilligan going up against Popeye. Since Nintendo first had the 1982 video arcade game machine version of Popeye. I also emphasized on Kermit the frog uttering the same thing Popeye utters. Thus, he cheats on Miss Piggy just by fascinating the attractive looking young woman.
