i must say i am impressed. i've seen many an R/C pilot put a plane into a shock stall and tare it apart, yet this pilot kept her together through every stunt he did. amazing. and the hover sequences were extraordinary. i'm at a total loss for words. WOW
Any plane requiring over 30cc will usually be powered by a two-stroke gasoline engine (like a chain saw, moped). The fuel used is regular unleaded 95 mixed with 5% two stroke oil.
I totally agree. I always say, when flying rc, you are never reacting, only acting, cuz if you're reacting, you've already crashed. You always have to stay one step ahead of your aircraft. Plus a gyro is just another "electronic" weak link in the chain.
@ErikJenssen It's a plane sold by Al's Hobbies in the UK. driven by a 200 cc petrol engine, I believe. Any biplane with a correct C or G will be able to hover given enough power to weight.
I am in the hobby and was just trying to answer your question. When you fly at this level, you do not put a gyro on your plane. I own a 33% Pitts, 50cc.
This airplane is real... it's just not full scale. For a full-scale plane capable of hovering, look up the "Turbine Toucan" - it will be able to hover, but they are still developing it. The prototype flies, but they have a lot of testing to do still.
OK! nice video and plane by way, when you go this large and the price tag for suck a big plane, do you install gyro's keep it from crashing? Im sure there are expert pilots out there that dont need them but id almost put my money this plane has them for sure watching the control surfaces
You were not completely off with your comment though. I didn't read the info, and had heard that the Pitt could do amazing stuff + I also have to play the alcohol card;)
@MajorSterling That I couldn't tell you. My advice would be to ring Al's Hobbies in Milton Keynes, UK and speak to Al himself and ask him specifically what engine James Norris uses. He'll also know whether the engine you have is up top the job. - The Major
@MajorSterling Yes, i know :-) I do quite a lot of 3D flying with models up to 60-size, and now im looking for a giant scale plane that performs well. I want to buy a Pitts Challenger, and need good advice for the best choice. I have a 150 cc to cylindre DL engine ready in my hangar. Would this engine be enough to hover this plane?
Hey James. My name is Chris from Canada. I am thinking about scratch building a giant scale extra 300. I am curious as to how you hooked up the smoke system?
do you have any tips on balancing of a biplane? i've recently been flying an eflite ultimate 20-300. i've just noticed that alpha manuevers and hovering are nothing like that of a single low wing 3d plane like a yak .this is my first bipe and i'm still experimenting. the power setup is locked in, but balancing of the weight has been my issue. making it more tail heavy will help of course, but what about weight high or low in the fueselage? any tips about bipes would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, Can you tell me who made this RC plane, and where can I get one? Has anybody compared this to the 100CC Pitts Python made by Quique aircraft company? Thks
Might aswell just build an oldschool S1C with a 100hp continental and a wooden prop. Probably wouldn't cost much more and if you build it light you can qualify for the sport pilot category and you don't even need a medical. :)
They do it all the time mate ;-) In RC anyways =D where a "3D"-aircraft typically has more thrust than weight, thus beeing able to hover in mid air =) It takes a whole lot of skill to do it like this guy tho! =D
Glass and B4its. Its guys like both of you that wreck it for the rest of us. Everyone should be able to share the field no matter what or how you fly. Its about the fun that we are having flying model planes. Not about how we fly them. Or how old we are when we fly them. I know plenty of guys that most of you would consider old farts than could fly circles around you or hover in the middle of your circle.
Sure why not? Whats wrong with gyro,s some people dont understand the "Aid" , some think there better then computer controlled? Personly with that much money flying, if gyro craps out? (I doubt) it would be same as any other electronic failure (if thats what you are hinting to) I guess no one knows
@shawnson133 My comments were all in good fun, A little unrealistic humor if you will. and i agree it would be stupid to try and prop hang inches from the ground. i have tried to find footage of a real plane doing a prop hang but i can only find model planes. Have you really seen a plane prop hang the way models do? i've tried to find footage of such an event, but no luck
That makes no sense? not alot of room for what? if i was going fly a big old plane like that id feel better off with some type of stablization, id hate ditch because last second error on my part

James, this is the Major. I shot this footage of you flying at Paddock Wood and you are THE MAN. Ignore the mosquitoes.

that was awesome! mr morris you are very talented

The best RC flying ive seen
Awsome looking plane with the skill to go with it..... Keep up the entertainment.
thank you for a standard internet-answer! Some things never change...
Thanks for your reply, great stuff

It's called air hover... pretty easy to do with a model airplane but it takes some horsepowers to do it with one that large!
some flying that lad! hell of a nice plane too. its a "1 day for me" thing. im on a tutor plane ha. but picking it up. thanks enjoyed it totaly
Great flying skills, could you tell me where i could obtain one of these kits this size please, regards Alistair
I think its about time a Real Life Pilot out there learns to Hover like this, it has to be possible!
Be worth contacting Al's Hobbies in the UK and asking them for details of the kit flown by James Morris. - The Major
Great, thanks for your reply

amazing pilot!!

Don't worry. I now have twelve planes including jets and I still have time to enjoy my tutor 40!
amazing! well done!
I don't think I've ever seen an airplane just hover like that. :-X
@MajorSterling That I couldn't tell you. My advice would be to ring Al's Hobbies in Milton Keynes, UK and speak to Al himself and ask him specifically what engine James Norris uses. He'll also know whether the engine you have is up top the job. - The Major
@Topgunn035 it's caled weight/thrust ratio... if you have more power than weight you can do that... some real life jet fighers do that...
I have a Pogo sitting in the bedroom, but I never finished building it. It's just too weird :)

@MerkabaStar that trick was called a torque roll
Hey James. My name is Chris from Canada. I am thinking about scratch building a giant scale extra 300. I am curious as to how you hooked up the smoke system?
is this RC or a manned aircraft?? quite amazing anyway
do you have any tips on balancing of a biplane? i've recently been flying an eflite ultimate 20-300. i've just noticed that alpha manuevers and hovering are nothing like that of a single low wing 3d plane like a yak .this is my first bipe and i'm still experimenting. the power setup is locked in, but balancing of the weight has been my issue. making it more tail heavy will help of course, but what about weight high or low in the fueselage? any tips about bipes would be greatly appreciated.
It flys, it's real.
WOW thats tight!
Is that Alan Partridge on the P.A.?
Hello,

Thks
The airframe is only 60 quid to replace. Get another one and keep going!
actually what is used in these planes for the smoke effects is non toxic
What brand of plane is this, and how many cc engine does ut need to doa safe hover?
Might aswell just build an oldschool S1C with a 100hp continental and a wooden prop. Probably wouldn't cost much more and if you build it light you can qualify for the sport pilot category and you don't even need a medical. :)
got me new tutor major, yip try again. ha
@shawnson133 A pilot inside the cockpit of an airplane hovered inches off the ground?! wow i'd like to see the footage of that!!
I fly. Its all the same to me. Hover, torque roll, its kinda getting old actually, 3d. I'm back to flying straight!
They do it all the time mate ;-)
In RC anyways =D where a "3D"-aircraft typically has more thrust than weight, thus beeing able to hover in mid air =)

torque roll with a smaoke canister

I'd bet what's left in my 401K that there is NO gyro in that plane. Not alot of room for error! :)
Whats up whit the speeker-guy??
OMFG A LAMIA!
wrong to keep from ripping the prop. over rev-ing the motor
That is a helicopter my friend ..
What is this "Gravity" you speak of? :)
alpaca out of fucking nowhere.
what about the landing :(
i crashed me plane major... its gone.
it was environmentally friendly smoke, didn't you hear the announcer?

true that

VRY envriromental poluthion but nice
@mossa19844891 ... awsome flight .. love your plane
im not saying its not real im saying its not a full size aircraft
dave bishop never shuts up about the bring and buy sales :)
That makes no sense? not alot of room for what? if i was going fly a big old plane like that id feel better off with some type of stablization, id hate ditch because last second error on my part
@MajorSterling
650cc
nice flying, the accents are thick,it is english though
@mossa19844891 If this is your video The vid is very cool!!
Naw, a 4 year old can fit in there =P
simply a hover. of course only in an rc
its not real its rc plane it has been in many rc plane magazines
@mossa19844891 Very well said The vid is very cool!!
pollution? stop farting, this is more harming...
