  • This was by far the hardest but most amazing bike ride of my life. Starting in Menton, at the Mediterranean Sea, I cycled through the French alps and some parts of Italy and Switzerland, to the beautiful Thonon-les-Bains at lake Geneva. In total, the route was 1.050 km and 32.000 meters of climbing.
Of course, I cannot show everything that happened during the race, but I tried to capture the stunning scenery and various emotions during the event. I had many lows and at least as many highs during the race. It truly was amazing and i am proud to have finished it, given the very difficult conditions.
I hope you enjoy my little documentary, feel free to ask me anything! :)

This was really nice, this route looks amazing. Maybe I will do it this summer, but then in non-race mode. Much respect to you for finishing the race, and thank you for sharing it with us. All the best, cheers.

Thanks a lot! It really is a beautiful route and if you are not in a hurry, I think you will see so much more than what I did. Because I was riding a lot during nighttime, I missed many vistas and could not enjoy all the amazing views.

Thank you so much, Allen! The weather really was horrendous and I missed quite a few beautiful views because of it. Still, it was a very rewarding ride!

Thanks a lot! Yes, it's super tough and the amount of climbing really gets to you after a while. It definitely is more of a mountain bike race and not so much for gravel bikes. By far the hardest thing was the incredibly bad weather in the first few days. From that point on everything was wet and it was a mental game to finish the race.

Great video and account of your adventure. We saw you off at the start and enjoyed the police escort for a little while on our way to Nice. We had just finished Route des Grande Alpes and got to Menton about 30 mins before the start on our road bikes with minimal bike packing gear. Got some surprised looks from people thinking we were there for Alps Divide! Just a happy coincidence

That's cool! I didnt notice there was a group of road cyclists at the beginning. I just checked and Route des Grandes Alps looks amazing as well - I bet you had a great time riding! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

Looks like a cool event! What bike have you used?

    • @movingmarco

The event was amazing, also thanks to great organization from the race team. I used a 2021 Specialized Chisel hardtail with a Fox 32 fork and Sram components. For gearing I used a 32 tooth chainring with a 10-50 cassette. It was a good choice, maybe a XC fully would have been even better.
