Me too. It was just a sad but meaningful moment. The ONLY thing I wish they had done different, at that moment, was if after saying the mantra Ralph said, softly, "I'm gonna wreck it." As a way of underscoring how he was taking the most negative aspect of himself and doing good with it. But it was still a powerful moment.

Go "behind the scenes" and find out how bad the original screenplay was. A re-write turned potential garbage into a modern classic. "Wreck It Ralph 2" dumped all over the original's message. (The usual problem with sequels.)

You guys actually overlooked a piece of Calhoun's tragic backstory. They didn't explicitly show this, but the fact that Calhoun had to watch her fiancé get eaten by a bug and then destroy that bug on her wedding day is far darker when you look at what the movie shows us about the bugs later on in the story. If you recall, when a bug ate "King Candy" aka Turbo, the bug BECAME King Candy.. Which means that not only did Calhoun watch a bug eat her fiancé, but she also had to shoot her own fiancé right after that because the bug became her fiancé.

There's a real pile of references in this lovely movie, obviously, but one I think that seems to get missed a lot is Gene and Ralph. When the game's doing the intro for the whole premise, Gene is the Nicelander that Ralph always grabs and throws clear out of the building, so the dude really has a chip on his little 8-bit shoulder about this Bad Guy. I read a great headcanon that Sugar Rush becomes this massive cryptid because if you go to this one arcade in this one town, you can play King Candy instead of Princess Vanelope, and no one can figure out why. Then one day, King Candy vanishes, Vanelope arrives, but she's in a different outfit and has this random powerup that none of the other Princess Vanelopes in the other Sugar Rush games seem to have. Just imagine how crazy that would be to the average person.

There's so many good clues about how out of place King Candy is. He doesn't match the anime-esque designs of the rest of the racers, he's the only adult in a roster full of kids, and while everyone else has these elaborate candy portmanteau names like Adorabeezle Winterpop and Crumbelina DiCaramello, he's just dull ol' King Candy. Even his code block is out of place - it's like fifty times bigger than all the others, like he had to conceal all the hacking he had to do to make it.
My favorite clue is how he tries to deny his castle is pink ("Salmon! Salmon, that's obviously salm-- What are you doing here?!") In the moment, it plays like an obviously prissy guy trying to deny that he likes pink; at the end, it's revealed that, oh duh, of course his castle is pink, he _stole_ it from a little girl. This movie literally thought of everything 😁

I've seen people argue that the movie sends a bad message, that you should just accept your station in life and never try new things (which probably explains a lot of things about the sequel, but that's a whole other can of worms 🙄). But that's not what this movie meant at all. Ralph felt useless because he believed all he could ever be was a Bad Guy, but Vanellope helped him realize what a good person he truly was all along. He wanted the Nicelanders' acceptance, but first he needed acceptance from the most important place of all - himself.
And that's the true message: that there are inherent things in each of our lives that we can't control, but they don't define us as people. What we are is not nearly as important as who we are. And I think that's really beautiful 😊

I've been learning a lot about this movie, there's a lot of hints that give away the Turbo twist (spoilers if you watch the movie/this video after the comments).
    1. TurboTime was a cabinet neighbor to Fix-it-Felix Jr., which is how King Candy recognized Wreck-it-Ralph, they were neighbors
    2. Alan Tudyk is the voice of King Candy, if you can pick out his voice from Turbo, that's a give away
    3. King Candy calls the pink castle Salmon colored, kinda giving it away that it wasn't his to begin with because pink is for girls, generally
    4. If a video game character dies in their world, they respawn, but if they die anywhere else, they die for good, if Sugar Rush was King Candy's world, he would not be scared of Ralph at all, but he is.
    5. although I haven't been able to find the exact scene, someone mentioned that when King Candy's name is announced, it sounds different to the rest of the cast.
    6. Sugar Rush looks chibi anime, King Candy looks western, out of place.
This last bit isn't a hint but it's a spooky detail, when Turbo is revealed, if you slow it down as much as possible, you can see Turbo doing an 8-bit thumbs up and then a 3D thumbs up while looking at the camera, breaking the 4th wall for the briefest of moments.

Fun fact about this movie: the reason Wreck-it Ralph destroys the Nicelanders building isn't just because if his programming within the game, but because of a real system of law known as "Eminent Domain", which gives the government the right to take private property at their discretion. Don't believe me? Listen to the song "Wreck-it, Wreck-it Ralph", especially the first verse which goes like this:
"Wreck-it Ralph is a giant of a man, 9 feet tall with really big hands
Living in a stump on his very own land until his world went crazy
He was minding his own business on the day they came
They showed a piece of paper saying 'Eminent Domain'
They built an apartment building saying 'progress was to blame'
So he got mad and he turned bad
Brick by brick HE'S GONNA TAKE HIS LAND BACK!"
So the truth about this movie is that Wreck-it Ralph is not a bad guy at all, but the victim of a very unfair law.

So here's my theory about why Ralph is so unpopular among the Nicelanders at the beginning - you notice they're all just sort of afraid of him, but the only one who's outright antagonistic towards him is Gene, the guy he throws out of the building at the start of every game. It's like Gene is bitter about barely being in the game and blames Ralph for it, then just started a smear campaign against him among all the other Nicelanders. And Felix, who assumes the best about everybody and is too polite to take a stance one way or the other, is just caught in the middle.

I havent watched this movie since before the sequel came out, and I got emotional all over again and cried at certain parts. To this day, it's still my favorite computer-animated Disney movie. So many elements of it are impressive and entertaining, as a gamer- like how the Cy-Bugs mutate based on what they eat. And Sugar Rush would be a legit home-run if it were a real game; the concept is solid. And the casting for this movie is stellar, Alan Tudyk turns everything he touches into gold. Everyone was bringing 100% to this.
It *is* a shame the sequel was a letdown that totally retcons major plot points from this movie, but sometimes that's just how things go.
Still glad you guys watched this one, I'mma have to watch the movie for real now.

I had written off this movie until a friend convinced me to see it. I was *stunned* and consistently delighted throughout. Not only are video games and references organically woven into the plot, the film is written so well that I usually notice new things about it every rewatch. One of the best family films of the 2010s.

I missed the video game arcade wave, so Ralph's back story is what drew me into this "kid's movie." The Bad-Anon motto/mantra is the heart of this tale. "I'm Bad and that's Good. I will never be Good and that's not Bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me." After Ralph left on his medal quest, the Nicelanders and Felix discovered how important he is/was to their game. The characters live, learn and appreciate each other in ways that hadn't been aware of before.

What's creepy is if you pause the movie at the right time when he is revealed you can see him looking directly at us and holding two thumbs up like he does in his game. He breaks the fourth wall for a second and you would of never realized it without checking.

    Just to say :
The nice-landers (the tiny characters from the game of wreck it Ralph) are actually the bad guys here.
They didn't invited Ralph despite his humongous important role and they consider him as a villain, even when the game is off (I know he's wrecking stuff, but it's not an excuse).
Without his presence, there will be no game. But still, these little turds don't want him.

Someone, from another channel, made an interesting comment on why Gene hates Ralph so much. At the start of every game, Ralph punches through his apartment, grabs him and throws him out of the building. Gene has to live that every time someone plays the game. probably every level too. More than Felix, Gene has, probably, suffered from Ralph than anyone else. Not that it makes it OK, how he treats him. But at least there is reason.

Another fact : there is a hint about the real identity of king candy right before the revelation. When he encounters Ralph, he recognize him right away. But the fact that Ralph ask who he is shows that they never met each other, even outside of the game.

The two cops are both donuts, one is a classic iced yeast donut. The one that look like an eclair is actually called a "Long John" and it is usually iced with chocolat or maple icing and can be filled with a sweet cream (similar to the filling of a Oreo, but not quite as solid) filling, custard or no filing. Maple iced, cream filled Long John is my very favorite donut.
