You have not lived if you have not been to a Ramstein concert!!! It should be on everyone’s bucket list… I ticked mine off in 2009/2010…. Best live performance ever… it is not a concert… it is an experience!!!… from treadmills and mind blowing fireworks to the lead guitarist crowd surfing on an inflatable dingy whilst performing… it is crazy, nuts and the best experience of your life!!!

The real translation of DU HAST is "you have". But we also have DU HASST in German, which means "you hate" and is pronounced exactly the same way. Thus, Rammstein voluntarily does a play on words. In the beginning you don´t have a clue if it is one or the other. Only when he sings on you dig that it is "you have".

“This song is actually about a kind of loyalty,” said Kruspe. “We see Rammstein like a kind of family. We have a strong awareness, a strong sense of tradition in this band. And for me, this song is a bit like that promise of faith we know from weddin seegs, that’s kind of been integrated into this family"

You are right. Rammstein concerts and music videos are two completely different things. And live concert recordings are always preferable, but the music videos are also extremely good. So just do both to the respective songs.

There are several interpretations. It's about a proposal for marriage and the guy says no. The most part of the lyrics is a repetition of the phrase "du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt" ("you have asked me and have said nothing"). The phrase is incomplete, they add a word in every round until it's complete. Incidentally, the first words sound the same as "du haSSt mich" = "you hate me". Btw:
The lightning are not post production .

I flew from england to Budapest to see them live last year ...best show i've ever been to! The crowd was absolutely massive....thousands of people all over budapest from different countries to see them. And with budapest being such a beautiful and historically interesting place to visit just added to the experience. If u wanna see them, u have to find out well in advance when and where they are playing cos tickets sell out very fast, doesn't matter which country they are in as die hard fans will travel the globe to see them. We met a couple who were from manchester...half an hours drive from where i live, and in the past 8 yrs they had flown to 8 different countries to see them! Most people want the feuer zone tickets right in front of the stage which is good if u want to actually see the band up close and personal but for all the different effects of the pyro and the lights for the 'modor stage' i'd say getting some in the middle tier stands is the best place....u could defo still feel the heat coming from the columns even in the stands!
And ya know, the band are getting on a bit now, till's gotta be late 50's/60 at the least so i'd go now if i were u, before they get too old to be touring the globe.

Yes to all things Rammstein! If you want to dive into their live videos, a great place to start would be Rammlied, Freur Frei, and Ich Tu Der Weh, from their 2010 Madison Square Garden show. You will never regret jumping down this particular rabbit hole!

Thx. Best live video ever, because of the 27 cameras used on a hit.
The lyrics are kind of a joke, but to be a super group with German lyrics,
that's quite an accomplishment. Imagine the many wars between
Germany and France, and now a French crowd singing German with joy. Peace.

Du hast (written with one s) means "You have"
It sounds like Du hasst, which means "You hate"
So the audience HEARS "You have/hate me" until he finishes the sentence and the "hast" becomes unambiguous: "You have asked me"

When it comes to the real meanings of Rammsteins lyrics, although I speak both, german and english fluently, I couldn't really translate their songs. Every line they wrote can be interpreted in multiple ways. Like the song "Mein Teil" - that can be translated as "my part of", "my share of", "my part (inappropiate to add the p word)". And that's just a two word line.^^

  • @arnonyhm4055
    @arnonyhm4055 3 місяці тому

The lyrics of this song explained in a nutshell:
The first three words are "Du hast mich" (you have me) which at that moment doesn't make any sense in German. But it sounds (intentionally) the same as "Du hasst mich" (you hate me). Later in the song, the first three words are extended to a full sentence: "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt." (You asked me and I did not answer.) And then, to show what he was asked, the chorus is a wedding vow: "Willst Du bis der Tod euch scheidet treu ihr sein für alle Tage?" (Do you want to be faithful to her for all days until death do us part?) This is answered first by a kind of female voice "Ja" (yes) and afterwards by Till's harsh voice "Nein!" (No!). These - plus a slightly obscene word play on the wedding vow, that I will not explain here - are the whole lyrics (repeated a few times).
As mentioned in the "making of" of that song it's about the connection within the band. They never had a line-up change since their start in 1994. The lead gitarrist once said, the band is like a marriage without sex.
Rammstein oftenly has quite simple but poetic lyrics. However, precise translations of the lyrics is hard work (and sometimes not possible without a lot of additional explanations), because they are playing many times with double meanings of words or slightly modify common German expressions and symbolic language pictures to invert or change their meanings. And in most cases the members of Rammstein don't explain the lyrics. Sometimes their meaning is obvious, sometimes there is a lot of room for interpretations. And sometimes (as in my opinion in this song) the meaning of the lyrics doesn't really matter. It's ok for them when everyone has his own interpretation.

  • @LorcrystNySell
    @LorcrystNySell 2 місяці тому

The lyrics are basically traditional wedding vows, but with that twist only found in the german language that the same word (hast) with a tiny bit of accentuation, can both mean "have" and "hate" ...
Also, that crowd is 45K FRENCH people, with several centuries of deeply rooted hatred of anything german, singing in GERMAN within 15 seconds ... THAT is the power of RAMMSTEIN !
Finally, the ONLY thing added in postprod was the lightning effect, and that was until the band started to included Tesla Coils on stage to create them live ... they are all certified and licensed pyrotechnicians, and Till is a licensed and certified artificer, he builds those special effects and pyrotech himself.

The ambiguity here is done on purpose 🙂
When you don't know lyrics, it would sound to you like:
    YOU
    YOU HAVE
YOU HATE ME (oh, so it was "hate" - since this makes more sense than "you have me")
    (then repetitions and...)
YOU HAVE ASKED ME (ooooh so it wasn't about hatred!)
    x3
    ... AND I DIDN'T SAY A THING.
Very nice play on words, quite typical for Rammstein. Such things appear in many songs, yet this is the most obvious one.

this song has nothing to do with hating, problem is "du hast (have)" and "du hasst (hate)" are same pronounced, du hast (you have).... du hast mich gefragt (you have asked me).... and then the marriage ceremonie: willst du mir treu sein für jetzt und alle Tage bis der Tod uns scheidet (do you want to be faithful for all days until dead seperates us) the answer is usually, yes I will.... and now he says no, in facts its the story of a wedding where something goes wrong 😩, oh, German here

In German, Du hast or Du hasst is not clear without the following Content!
You only know whether Du hast (You have) or Du hasst (You hate) is meant in relation to the following Text!
……. you have asked me, only now it is clear that ….. du hast mich gefragt (You have ask me) is meant!
Hast and hasst are two Words that Sound the same in German!
No German can tell just by hearing (Du hast/hasst) what is meant!
It only becomes clear in Context and from the Spelling!
    Noun:
Der Hass / The Hate - Verb: Du hasst / You hate
The Verb "hast" comes from "haben"
    Ich habe - I have
    Du hast - You have
Er, Sie, Es hat - He, She, It has
    Wir haben - We have
    and so on.
    Greetings from Kiel (Germany)
