Best is when Brian May states that nobody beats the Beatles but that it's nice to be there with them. It shows character, humility and the sign of a great man. This is way too infrequent in rock band members.
I fully agree! The thing is that it would be the critics that will tell if they have surpassed The Beatles or any other band for that matter. But in the end, Queen already has cemented its unique ground in music history & their artistry is very much appreciated.
it's strange that people are comparing The Beatles and Queen. Queen came out when The Beatles were disbanded, so IMHO, you just don't compare them because they're not on the same time period, if you understand what I mean.. Both were and are still great bands..
Brian May is a treasure. You can see and hear how much he loved and respected Freddie, but - beyond that - how much he loves and respects his craft. What an absolute pleasure to watch him listening to the tracks and commenting. I can't say enough good things about the man.

So genuine, honest, sincere, ridiculously talented and intelligent - other bands at the time used to laugh about all these guys with University Degrees that ended up in one of the greatest Rock Bands of all time. Brian went on to finish his PhD. In Astrophysics in the early 90's. I mean really?.? Seriously?? Amazing. The way he and Roger put up with the media and did interviews shortly after Freddie's death, to set the record straight, was nothing short of Herculean, as they were pretty shattered. Lovely guys. Amazing musicians. Iconic Band !!
Roger and Brian were awesome friends to Freddie, extremely loyal. Much respect to these greats. I also believe Deacon cared, but he was somewhat introverted.
Brian May was a killer guitarist. no doubt. But Freddie is undoubtedly the best frontman ever. His vocal range is phenomenal. I don't care what you say he was sexy as hell

I love rock stars who remember their own context as people who are privileged to live their dreams because of that two-way relationship with their fans. That's Brian May (and I think it was Freddie too). He revolutionized electric guitar, and not only is he humble about it, but he'll show you exactly how he did it and say it's no big deal.
I loved that Freddie's band mates let him be himself. They all loved one another. And that is the story! They really enjoyed rocking together. And they are still rocking in 2018! That is some serious rockin' power:)
C R I totally agree and I think Freddie’s theatrical style brought out the best in all of them - I was listening to Bring Back that Leroy Brown the other day, and I thought to myself the band mates must have just got so excited playing something like that, and would never have gotten that experience without magnificent Freddie.
Yes! They let each other shine at what each can do best. And you don't feel a competition between them especially artistically. Even the Beatles had this competitive air. That's really why I love the Queen
We should really appreciate the generosity of Brian, Roger and John for sharing their musical lives with us. I can't think of another famous band that opened up so much of themselves to their fans (or the public). I really enjoy these Queen documentaries.
I love listening to Brian May and Rodger Taylor talk about Freddy they truly loved him and so did John Duncan but he's no longer with them he just couldn't be around anymore without Freddy so he retired but still does their books for them. Queen forever

I find it fascinating how a certain few people , by pure coincidence, can come together and make such an amazing difference to the world. Just one second of timing difference, or missing one person by a split second and none of it happens.

They all did. Brian was suicidal and had to be put in a mental hospital. John isn’t a broken man though. He had a life after queen and seems to be very happy and comfortable, from what I hear from his kids.

He could design queen's logo; He could name the band 'queen'; He could write songs; He could sing; He could play piano; He could dance; He could perform well on stage; He could control the emotion of the audiences; He could act, etc., etc. He was brilliant! He was truely a legend!
I must be haunting and sad at the same time to see Freddy’s doodles, listen to his piano playing, just remembering him. Must be sad for the guys to go through all those memories. But I can also imagine those must’ve been amazing memories as well.
I think they have done a beautiful job of keeping Freddie's music and memory alive. I think talking about Freddie has kept them going. Good memories for sure!!
To hear Brian acknowledged that those guitar riffs in the middle of the song originated in Freddy's head was simply amazing. You can clearly see that he respected and loved Freddy so much.
My grandmother was gob smacked when listening to Bohemian Rhapsody (she would be 130 yo today) She listened through ancient hearing aides. Having lived in India during her youth she recognised Faruk as Asian. Adjusting her spectacles to take a real interest in "Top pf the Pops" on black & White tv. I had tracks from various queen pieces for my wedding. I played Queen albums to all of my baby bumps.Later Queen to rock my babies to sleep. Bohemian Rhapsody a piano piece for my daughters finals. My sons school graduation. My husbands funeral....Tomorrow I will see the movie!
Wow, so if she was born in 1889, she would have been 86 when Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 1975! This proves that any generation can enjoy Queen's music, even generations that are not around anymore...

My God. Brian is an earthly angel and clearly loves Freddie and the beautiful songs the band created together. Freddie was a God among men, with an unparalleled talent and mind. I can't imagine being in their presence. We can't forget about Roger who provided the most kick ass backing vocals for Freddie while playing the drums like a boss. Oh, you need a special little amp for your guitar? John can whip one up for you bc he's a freaking engineer! I thank God for each of these men and the influence they've had on the world for over 40 years now. Incredible! 👏🏼
I have news for Brian May. I love the Beatles, but they, or any other band for that matter, simply do not/will not/ cannot ever compare to Queen. Queen is magnificent and will never be topped. Ever! There was and never will be someone as great as Freddie Mercury, and you put those four guys together and you have perfection.
Totally agree! Some of the proof of that is that many bands and many singers can sing The Beatles songs. Almost no one in fact no one can sing Queen songs! They can't even copy or reach the musical complexity of Freddie's voice.
I have to say, in this days there is not god musick. The 60-70 and 80 was the best time for Rock’nRoll. Queen is still the best. I listen to them every day 🤩🥰
This song, in my humble opinion, shows what a genius of music that Freddie Mercury was. It's even beautiful without guitar or vocals. Mr. Mercury was THE best of the best. The world lost him and all the music he would have created too soon. It's such a shame not to have had this gentleman for all these long silent ,of his gift, years. RIP Mr. Freddie Mercury. You were and are well loved.

It’s nice to see them all reminiscing in these clip over there life’s back then and mostly their best friend. I bet it also pings the heart whenever they hear there old friend sing and see him dance and galavant around stage as he once did and would have been doing still, but it’s also extremely extraordinary that they can smile and be happy listing to him and reliving those memories because they had them in the first place and did all these amazing things as a group. There will never ever be another one of these band members, they were each so different but also seemed to all belong to the same puzzle, and there will certainly never be a band that will ever compare to what is queen. I doubt there will ever be performers and songwriters, as no questions asked about it, legendary as these few men are. I envy those who got to see them live and actually watch there history unfold before there eyes.
Brian May looks so nostalgic when listening to Freddie’s piano. The whole band were so protective of Freddie. This is why I have a new found respect for Queen.
linda baker He had an official 4 octave vocal range, which is still impressive; however some (still not a handful or few), has a vocal range of 4 octaves and above. Even Freddie admitted that Roger Taylor (the drummer) can sing higher than him since he had a 5 octave range. However, nobody will ever match Freddie’s Flamboyancy and his tone in voice. He is simply the greatest I’ve ever heard.
What a phenomenal voice and talent. My God gave this to him. I’m not saying it was a waste. I just can’t figure why he didn’t sing for the glory of God our creator. I of all people have followed Rock groups. I’m now 70 but I’m so fascinated By Freddy. But why now I don’t know and it saddens me that I might not see him in heaven. Not everybody goes there you know. I Can’t seem to get this out of my head.
I guess that’s what made Queen so legendary and unique. They struck an unlikely balance between the flamboyant (and by many accounts debauched) rock lifestyle and an uncompromising commitment to meticulous craft and musicianship. Simply the best.
This documentary is just what I've longed for, to hear the different pieces of Bohemian rhapsody part by part. It's such an amazing complex song that it's almost impossible to pick up every single note. It was great hearing Brian go through each bit with commentary and he's so nice. This song is one more proof of how amazingly talented Freddie Mercury was. Not only did he have the best voice ever and a legendary stage performance, he also wrote so many songs that will live forever. Imagine composing the whole Bohemian rhapsody in your mind, talk about a great mind. I love him and Queen so much and I really wish I could have seen them live. Unfortunately I was only 11 years old when Freddie died but if I had one chance to go back in time I would use it to see them.
In those days, musicians had to have real talent with playing their instruments and singing, because as Brian May points out, "The take was the take" and you weren't able to do a lot to it afterwards. You had to just do a take and nail it. Now I feel like this is something that is sadly going away, as real musicianship is not as valued as it once was, and talentless pop stars use autotune, synthetic drums (which never have the same feel as a good drummer actually playing drums), and programs like protools which are overused. Can you imagine a band today making a song this complex?

As a huge Led Zeppelin junkie and fan, I'd have to say that there's no contest between Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway. I'd take Rhapsody any day. A magical story of an individuals dismay.. Truely remarkable.
There will never be any band that will surpass Queen and there will never be another Freddie... I listen to their music everyday... I need my Queen fix daily.

I love this song because it gives me the power to face the truth, to carry on and to face my fears. And that ending... "Anyway the wind blows..." It says that life is full of good and bad times but you have to carry on and never give up. Freddie Mercury is a genius. Best song ever!
Sorp on. Nothing really matters. What will be will be. Meet your issues head on, get them out the way, and you end up on the otherside eventually. Never put a problem off today. As I'm my experiance they either become harder to face, or become bigger issues. Whether this be love, money, or business. This songs works on all levels. Oh and it's quite good too. 😋 I think you need to become a Serbian age, or at least level of maturity to get this song. As a kids it was a great catchy song. As an adult (40 somthing) now, it's so much more.
The sound engineer deserves a medal. He knows these tracks like the back of his hand himself, but Brian has such an emotional attachment it's hard for him to let the man do his job.
I really enjoyed this. Especially when Brian was covering how the different tracks were made. It seemed to be bittersweet for him. I could see in just that short time how much he truly cared for Freddie. Very touching.

Maybe not their best, but absolutely their greatest song. Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions and maybe Another One Bites the Dust will still be mainstream in 50 years. It's already been 40-45 years. How many bands will be relevant 90+ years after their hay day? They are music royalty.
I can't hear another one bites the dust without it transporting me to the 80s on Saturday night at the skating rink. It was a staple played every weekend.

I was privileged to work on the editing of this video (with David Mallet and Trident records) as well as many of their early videos. I immediately thought it would be a massive hit. Very pleased it was kept at the full length. It was an interesting evening with the band! Would love to meet up with any of them again.

Yoav Cohen I COMPLETELY forgot about that one. You're right...that one fell off for me too (I still have that on "cassette". Can you believe it?). I kept it, however, because I'm a true fan, but I can't deny that wasn't one of my favorites. It wasn't even memorable...that's why I forgot it! LOL
I know nothing about music except for listening to it! Any other videos of the making of songs, especially 44 minutes long, would have been shut off by me very quickly. Everything they were talking about was wayyy over my head and might as well have been in a foreign language...but I watched the whole thing because Brian is so awesome to see and listen to. He seems so warm, kind and humble and he is also incredibly intelligent. I could listen to his soothing voice all day. Roger is awesome too, he's also very intelligent, has a great sense of humor and appears warm and kind also. I so appreciate that they let us in on everything Queen, and are still keeping the band fresh, current and very much active 40+ years later...and always speak very warmly of Freddie and keep his memory alive. I thank them for giving us some of the best music ever, music that will always stand the test of time.
Agree with everything you say...I just admire the respect they had for each other. In all the interviews I have seen, they have always conducted themselves like gentlemen and always speak so well of Freddie Mercury. When he was ill, they all respected his wish for privacy and never once let on that he was dying...Brian May is especially fantastic!!! Brilliant!!
I love how they mentioned the immortalization of the song in “Wayne’s World” and how they brought in Mike Meyer’s (Wayne) all these years later to play a role in the biopic. That seems very fitting. 😊

@@nocturnal7345 You can can play instruments and do the music. For example, using the Roland VP770, you can multiplex your voice and sound it like a chorus. But ... it will be noticed that it is artificial, machines were involved in the process and the sound won't be natural due to its compression. Queen made art in an artisanal, acoustic way and that's why the song stands the test of time. As 10CC did with the manual loop made with tapes for the choruses in "I'm not in love" in 1976. Or Kraftwerk with the chorus taken from an Orcheston keyboard for "Radioactivity" in 1975. Creativity in maximum expression. Today we have more technical resources, but talent is scarce. Let's look the music that comes out of the mainstream. Pure garbage.

I recall people over the years shrugging off these “rock musicians” as talentless hacks who just take drugs and bang on guitars in the studio...until you stop and listen and hear the science and musicality behind what they did...they went in like surgeons, masters at the craft, inventing methods on the spot...being meticulously precise and careful with what they were doing. They weren’t just drugged up idiots making noise. They were master musicians making classics that will stand the test of time.
By the way we're talking about Queen but not every rock band. Many bands did perform out of their minds on substances and remembering almost none of the lyrics.... Queen just wouldn't do that, they were consummate professionals and musicians first before anything
This is so much better than the Bohemian Rhapsody that ABC put on; they didn't play more than 5 seconds of the song because they were too cheap to pay the royalties for it. Queen Official are the only ones that can make a good Queen documentary and do the song justice.
Freddie Mercury past away 27 years ago on November 24 ,1991. as of this writing December 2018. He and his voice are built in to my early teen ,late teen years until I was 32 years old on that very sad day. This fan has missed you and that God given magnificent voice from that sad day on. There is a void in those of us who lived during the rise of Queen and all those hit songs we grew up listening to. Being there as one song after the other was released. It's in our DNA.Freddie Mercury you my friend are so very truly missed. My youth is part of your magic. Queen was always playing some where always. Wonderful if you loved the band and the vocals and I most surely did. Queen will be a part of me until I die just like the house where I grew up. The town and neighborhood where I grew up. It’s so obvious how much love and mutual respect these men have for each other. I’ve been watching MANY videos on Queen/Freddie Mercury over the past few weeks. I’m 44 and knew about Queen and all but never really knew much about them. Something, probably the movie coming out, got me extremely interested in learning about them and Freddie Mercury himself. I never knew how incredibly attractive he actually was. And it breaks my heart that AIDS killed him and so many others, including a family member of mine. You can tell that when Brian and Roger speak of him there so much love there. You can definitely see how much they miss him and wish he were still with us. There have been a lot of people that have come and gone in this world, and many I would like to have met, but for some reason Freddie Mercury is so high on that list, and it breaks my heart that it will never happen. I live in America but would love To travel to England to see where he lived. Too many rock stars are self-absorbed, But you can tell this group of men is not.
The more I get informed about QUEEN the more I love them. Four talented and smart band. They miss their friend Freddie, is so heart warming to feel the love for one another.
I understand the not wanting to explain the meaning of a song. Amy Grant once told a story how a fan came up to her gushing about a particular song helped her fall in love and it explained everything in her life. Amy replied, "I'm glad you liked it; I wrote for my dog." It was a joke. She meant that what inspires one person to do something may not be the same meaning that is picked up by the listener. There are some songs that are pretty self-explanatory ("Tears In Heaven"), or ambiguous ("25 or 6 to 4"), or better off interpreting your own meaning ("Bohemian Rhapsody"). Explaining BR would be the equivalent of when the secret to mastering the Rubik's Cube was published. Really, when you know how the puzzle fits together before you even begin it, where is the fun of mastering it on your own?
Personally I keep forgetting what an utter masterpiece this song is, until i hear the openning haunting piano intro and then I am taken back to my childhood whence I first heard this song 40 years ago , I can easily remember everyone,s comments on how very unique and wonderful it sounded , no one at the time produced this form of rock and for the very obvious reason that Queen simply wanted to do something different and n doing so acheieved mortality , how many songs of today will ever if any have this kind of timeless impact in 40 years time .

Brian May is a super cool guy and in my opinion, the most underrated guitarist ever! Seriously. He was ahead of his time. He did a little right handed tapping before mister Eddie Van Halen and even tap harmonic stuff. AND he had a KILLER live solo with an echo playing in between the beats, with the beats, etc creating an amazing symphony of his guitar and EVH would later do Cathedral which< I think, he got the idea for from Brian. BTW, for what its worth I think the second most underrated guitarist is Elliot Easton of the Cars : )

Having seen them do this song twice live, the first time Sept 1980 & again in 1981, at Madison Square Garden, NYC 20,000 people singing along was an experience that will stick with me for the rest of my life.
Same! I saw them in 78 & 80/81 in Los Angeles. The 78 Queen concert was the first concert I ever went to. It was their News of The World tour. (The one in 80/81 was the Jazz concert tour) It did not disappoint! I've been to hundreds of concerts since then and no band ever came close to the musical experience that was Queen. Freddie, well, there has been no other frontman musician like him. And the rest of the band: all professionals! They had a gong back then and I loved watching Roger hit it at the end of BoRap. He did that in both concerts I went to. Queen, just one of a kind! They still are the BEST! Great memories! I still play my albums! 😊

It pains me how much you can hear he misses his friend, I find that so profoundly sad. Seeing people who created such genius. I wish Freddie was still alive, just to see him give the middle finger to everything in music today. I hope in my life I never lose someone like Brian lost in Freddie. Amazing video though.
It's wonderful how, after Brian says he wouldn't give the meaning of the song, even if he knew, then coyly, gives the meaning of the song. Freddie Mercury, the only man to burst out of the closet, find it extremely scary (so you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.....just gotta get out, just got right out of here...) and go right back in again. And if you listen to Brian, that's exactly what he's saying. That Freddie was dealing with a lot of things in his life, got to nervous, and decided to deal with them later. Hence the meaning of the song.
I would just LOVE to talk with BRIAN. He´seems to be such a nice and warm welcoming fellow. Not a worldwide BIG rockstar but just like all of us. I´d just love to have a chat with him. I know it´s impossible but you can always wish can´t you...?

I met Brian May in January 1992 in the green room at a premier of Bram Stokers Dracula. I got an autograph from him. My immediate impression was that I didn't like him. I was 19 at the time and it's only now that I realise he was probably mourning his great friend Freddie as it was only 2 months after his death
I find it incredibly touching that Brian after 40 years still seems to be blown away by the musicality of the piano track that Freddie must have played to them back then. True musicians all of them.
I saw them in Feb 1977 in Springfield, Mass. I've been listening to this song since it hit in 1975, I have never gotten sick of listening to it and always listen all the way to the end whenever or wherever I am when it comes on. This song was a SMASH hit and is probably the most intricate pop song ever recorded and is definitely the most interesting. This takes me back to my early twenties. Queen were huge back then, the better cover bands used to do their tunes, you had to REALLY be able to sing well as a band to do these tunes. I have never seen anyone cover this and never expect to. Even Queen had a lot of the harmonies taped when I saw them. A favorite of cover bands back then was 'Now I'm Here'. Sometimes you forget just how good they were in their day. The first tune I ever heard by them was on the radio and was 'Keep Yourself Alive'. There WAS a time when radio and pop music was actually very good believe it or not.
I like that May is the only one that didn't change his hairstyle from the glam rock period of Queen.

So genuine, honest, sincere, ridiculously talented and intelligent - other bands at the time used to laugh about all these guys with University Degrees that ended up in one of the greatest Rock Bands of all time. Brian went on to finish his PhD. In Astrophysics in the early 90's. I mean really?.? Seriously?? Amazing. The way he and Roger put up with the media and did interviews shortly after Freddie's death, to set the record straight, was nothing short of Herculean, as they were pretty shattered. Lovely guys. Amazing musicians. Iconic Band !!

I love rock stars who remember their own context as people who are privileged to live their dreams because of that two-way relationship with their fans. That's Brian May (and I think it was Freddie too). He revolutionized electric guitar, and not only is he humble about it, but he'll show you exactly how he did it and say it's no big deal.

To hear Brian acknowledged that those guitar riffs in the middle of the song originated in Freddy's head was simply amazing. You can clearly see that he respected and loved Freddy so much.
My grandmother was gob smacked when listening to Bohemian Rhapsody (she would be 130 yo today) She listened through ancient hearing aides. Having lived in India during her youth she recognised Faruk as Asian. Adjusting her spectacles to take a real interest in "Top pf the Pops" on black & White tv. I had tracks from various queen pieces for my wedding. I played Queen albums to all of my baby bumps.Later Queen to rock my babies to sleep. Bohemian Rhapsody a piano piece for my daughters finals. My sons school graduation. My husbands funeral....Tomorrow I will see the movie!

My God. Brian is an earthly angel and clearly loves Freddie and the beautiful songs the band created together. Freddie was a God among men, with an unparalleled talent and mind. I can't imagine being in their presence. We can't forget about Roger who provided the most kick ass backing vocals for Freddie while playing the drums like a boss. Oh, you need a special little amp for your guitar? John can whip one up for you bc he's a freaking engineer!

I have news for Brian May. I love the Beatles, but they, or any other band for that matter, simply do not/will not/ cannot ever compare to Queen. Queen is magnificent and will never be topped. Ever! There was and never will be someone as great as Freddie Mercury, and you put those four guys together and you have perfection.
Totally agree! Some of the proof of that is that many bands and many singers can sing The Beatles songs. Almost no one in fact no one can sing Queen songs! They can't even copy or reach the musical complexity of Freddie's voice.

It’s nice to see them all reminiscing in these clip over there life’s back then and mostly their best friend. I bet it also pings the heart whenever they hear there old friend sing and see him dance and galavant around stage as he once did and would have been doing still, but it’s also extremely extraordinary that they can smile and be happy listing to him and reliving those memories because they had them in the first place and did all these amazing things as a group. There will never ever be another one of these band members, they were each so different but also seemed to all belong to the same puzzle, and there will certainly never be a band that will ever compare to what is queen. I doubt there will ever be performers and songwriters, as no questions asked about it, legendary as these few men are. I envy those who got to see them live and actually watch there history unfold before there eyes.

I read that Freddy's voice had 4 to 5 octaves compared to most singers who have 3 and a piano that has 7, frankly I am not suprized ,he was amazing

Even Freddie admitted that Roger Taylor (the drummer) can sing higher than him since he had a 5 octave range. However, nobody will ever match Freddie’s Flamboyancy and his tone in voice. He is simply the greatest I’ve ever heard.

Not only that. He nailed all notes (frequencies) with such an unbelievable precision. No manipulation.

This documentary is just what I've longed for, to hear the different pieces of Bohemian rhapsody part by part. It's such an amazing complex song that it's almost impossible to pick up every single note. It was great hearing Brian go through each bit with commentary and he's so nice. This song is one more proof of how amazingly talented Freddie Mercury was. Not only did he have the best voice ever and a legendary stage performance, he also wrote so many songs that will live forever. Imagine composing the whole Bohemian rhapsody in your mind, talk about a great mind. I love him and Queen so much and I really wish I could have seen them live. Unfortunately I was only 11 years old when Freddie died but if I had one chance to go back in time I would use it to see them.

Great comment, he was a modern-day mozart! No musical training and yet entire songs composed in his head, sometimes in his sleep.
In those days, musicians had to have real talent with playing their instruments and singing, because as Brian May points out, "The take was the take" and you weren't able to do a lot to it afterwards. You had to just do a take and nail it. Now I feel like this is something that is sadly going away, as real musicianship is not as valued as it once was, and talentless pop stars use autotune, synthetic drums (which never have the same feel as a good drummer actually playing drums), and programs like protools which are overused. Can you imagine a band today making a song this complex?

It's already been 40-45 years. How many bands will be relevant 90+ years after their hay day? They are music royalty.

I know nothing about music except for listening to it! Any other videos of the making of songs, especially 44 minutes long, would have been shut off by me very quickly. Everything they were talking about was wayyy over my head and might as well have been in a foreign language...but I watched the whole thing because Brian is so awesome to see and listen to. He seems so warm, kind and humble and he is also incredibly intelligent. I could listen to his soothing voice all day. Roger is awesome too, he's also very intelligent, has a great sense of humor and appears warm and kind also. I so appreciate that they let us in on everything Queen, and are still keeping the band fresh, current and very much active 40+ years later...and always speak very warmly of Freddie and keep his memory alive. I thank them for giving us some of the best music ever, music that will always stand the test of time.
Agree with everything you say...I just admire the respect they had for each other. In all the interviews I have seen, they have always conducted themselves like gentlemen and always speak so well of Freddie Mercury. When he was ill, they all respected his wish for privacy and never once let on that he was dying...Brian May is especially fantastic!!! Brilliant!!
I love how they mentioned the immortalization of the song in “Wayne’s World” and how they brought in Mike Meyer’s (Wayne) all these years later to play a role in the biopic.

Queen made art in an artisanal, acoustic way and that's why the song stands the test of time. As 10CC did with the manual loop made with tapes for the choruses in "I'm not in love" in 1976. Or Kraftwerk with the chorus taken from an Orcheston keyboard for "Radioactivity" in 1975. Creativity in maximum expression.
Today we have more technical resources, but talent is scarce.

I recall people over the years shrugging off these “rock musicians” as talentless hacks who just take drugs and bang on guitars in the studio...until you stop and listen and hear the science and musicality behind what they did...they went in like surgeons, masters at the craft, inventing methods on the spot...being meticulously precise and careful with what they were doing. They weren’t just drugged up idiots making noise. They were master musicians making classics that will stand the test of time.
By the way we're talking about Queen but not every rock band. Many bands did perform out of their minds on substances and remembering almost none of the lyrics.... Queen just wouldn't do that, they were consummate professionals and musicians first before anything

This is so much better than the Bohemian Rhapsody that ABC put on; they didn't play more than 5 seconds of the song because they were too cheap to pay the royalties for it. Queen Official are the only ones that can make a good Queen documentary and do the song justice.
Freddie Mercury past away 27 years ago on November 24 ,1991. as of this writing December 2018. He and his voice are built in to my early teen ,late teen years until I was 32 years old on that very sad day. This fan has missed you and that God given magnificent voice from that sad day on. There is a void in those of us who lived during the rise of Queen and all those hit songs we grew up listening to. Being there as one song after the other was released. It's in our DNA.Freddie Mercury you my friend are so very truly missed. My youth is part of your magic. Queen was always playing some where always. Wonderful if you loved the band and the vocals and I most surely did. Queen will be a part of me until I die just like the house where I grew up. The town and neighborhood where I grew up. It’s so obvious how much love and mutual respect these men have for each other. I’ve been watching MANY videos on Queen/Freddie Mercury over the past few weeks. I’m 44 and knew about Queen and all but never really knew much about them. Something, probably the movie coming out, got me extremely interested in learning about them and Freddie Mercury himself. I never knew how incredibly attractive he actually was. And it breaks my heart that AIDS killed him and so many others, including a family member of mine. You can tell that when Brian and Roger speak of him there so much love there. You can definitely see how much they miss him and wish he were still with us. There have been a lot of people that have come and gone in this world, and many I would like to have met, but for some reason Freddie Mercury is so high on that list, and it breaks my heart that it will never happen. I live in America but would love To travel to England to see where he lived. Too many rock stars are self-absorbed, But you can tell this group of men is not.
The more I get informed about QUEEN the more I love them. Four talented and smart band. They miss their friend Freddie, is so heart warming to feel the love for one another.

I understand the not wanting to explain the meaning of a song. Amy Grant once told a story how a fan came up to her gushing about a particular song helped her fall in love and it explained everything in her life. Amy replied, "I'm glad you liked it; I wrote for my dog." It was a joke. She meant that what inspires one person to do something may not be the same meaning that is picked up by the listener. There are some songs that are pretty self-explanatory ("Tears In Heaven"), or ambiguous ("25 or 6 to 4"), or better off interpreting your own meaning ("Bohemian Rhapsody"). Explaining BR would be the equivalent of when the secret to mastering the Rubik's Cube was published. Really, when you know how the puzzle fits together before you even begin it, where is the fun of mastering it on your own?

Personally I keep forgetting what an utter masterpiece this song is, until i hear the openning haunting piano intro and then I am taken back to my childhood whence I first heard this song 40 years ago , I can easily remember everyone,s comments on how very unique and wonderful it sounded , no one at the time produced this form of rock and for the very obvious reason that Queen simply wanted to do something different and n doing so acheieved mortality , how many songs of today will ever if any have this kind of timeless impact in 40 years time .
The look on Brian's face when they start playing the backing track...you can tell he's "seeing" Freddie, John and Roger in front of him, playing onto this backing track, in a studio in 1975...
I always thought the 'shivers down my spine' was chimes via Roger. Brian's Red Special was and is a living, breathing entity. What a treasure, Brian May. What a treasure Freddie, Roger, and John. Long Live Queen!

Brian May is a super cool guy and in my opinion, the most underrated guitarist ever! Seriously. He was ahead of his time. He did a little right handed tapping before mister Eddie Van Halen and even tap harmonic stuff. AND he had a KILLER live solo with an echo playing in between the beats, with the beats, etc creating an amazing symphony of his guitar and EVH would later do Cathedral which< I think, he got the idea for from Brian. BTW, for what its worth I think the second most underrated guitarist is Elliot Easton of the Cars : )

Having seen them do this song twice live, the first time Sept 1980 & again in 1981, at Madison Square Garden, NYC 20,000 people singing along was an experience that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

Same! I saw them in 78 & 80/81 in Los Angeles. The 78 Queen concert was the first concert I ever went to. It was their News of The World tour. (The one in 80/81 was the Jazz concert tour) It did not disappoint! I've been to hundreds of concerts since then and no band ever came close to the musical experience that was Queen. Freddie, well, there has been no other frontman musician like him. And the rest of the band: all professionals! They had a gong back then and I loved watching Roger hit it at the end of BoRap. He did that in both concerts I went to. Queen, just one of a kind! They still are the BEST! Great memories! I still play my albums! 😊
Also I can totally hear the whole song even when they played just some instruments or choruses. Brian is very modest to think we don't know the whole thing by heart. 😁
It pains me how much you can hear he misses his friend, I find that so profoundly sad. Seeing people who created such genius. I wish Freddie was still alive, just to see him give the middle finger to everything in music today. I hope in my life I never lose someone like Brian lost in Freddie. Amazing video though.
It's wonderful how, after Brian says he wouldn't give the meaning of the song, even if he knew, then coyly, gives the meaning of the song. Freddie Mercury, the only man to burst out of the closet, find it extremely scary (so you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.....just gotta get out, just got right out of here...) and go right back in again.
And if you listen to Brian, that's exactly what he's saying. That Freddie was dealing with a lot of things in his life, got to nervous, and decided to deal with them later. Hence the meaning of the song.
I would just LOVE to talk with BRIAN. He´seems to be such a nice and warm welcoming fellow. Not a worldwide BIG rockstar but just like all of us. I´d just love to have a chat with him. I know it´s impossible but you can always wish can´t you...?

I met Brian May in January 1992 in the green room at a premier of Bram Stokers Dracula. I got an autograph from him. My immediate impression was that I didn't like him. I was 19 at the time and it's only now that I realise he was probably mourning his great friend Freddie as it was only 2 months after his death

I find it incredibly touching that Brian after 40 years still seems to be blown away by the musicality of the piano track that Freddie must have played to them back then. True musicians all of them.
I saw them in Feb 1977 in Springfield, Mass. I've been listening to this song since it hit in 1975, I have never gotten sick of listening to it and always listen all the way to the end whenever or wherever I am when it comes on. This song was a SMASH hit and is probably the most intricate pop song ever recorded and is definitely the most interesting. This takes me back to my early twenties. Queen were huge back then, the better cover bands used to do their tunes, you had to REALLY be able to sing well as a band to do these tunes. I have never seen anyone cover this and never expect to. Even Queen had a lot of the harmonies taped when I saw them. A favorite of cover bands back then was 'Now I'm Here'. Sometimes you forget just how good they were in their day. The first tune I ever heard by them was on the radio and was 'Keep Yourself Alive'. There WAS a time when radio and pop music was actually very good believe it or not.
I can die in peace acknowledging the fact that Freddie had so many loved ones around him who really cared for him.
