James Brown made so much money off that movie score royalties it was the bestselling R&B album at that time and he knew it would be that’s why he did for $5.50, plus them black films was pumping too.
The Godfather of Soul was a very smart businessman. I feel like Michael Jackson not only learned from him as a performer but also how to maneuver through the music industry by owning the masters of your music.
An excellent film and an even better fuckin' soundtrack! James Brown and the incomparable JBs turned that shit out! Awesome musicianship and compositions as always! This film has an excellent premise and although Fred Williamson plays an excellent Mob boss, this film could have been so much better with a larger budget! A lot of people are ignorant of the fact there were Black gangsters, however, as an organized crime historian I knew better! This film was loosely based on thugs like Bumpy Johnson, Leroy "Nicky" Barnes, and Frank Matthews. Regardless of that, this is still a solid film in the gangster genre and I highly recommend it! It's easily one of the best because Mr. Williamson was so stylish and charismatic in it!
They don't wanna get it here Fred - never did. They'll target prejudices and them trying to blackball you as we see hasn't worked. SOOOOO000000ooooooo glad you got this interview Vlad, as stated before the Drunk Chumps blew it
People in Business today need to take this sound advice. So many are busy ripping each other off for pennies when they could flourish by simply working together
The iconic (yes, there’s that word again!) moment in Black Cesar is when Williamson’s “Tommy Gibbs” was strolling down landmark 125th Street in Harlem with the Apollo Theatre in the background, with his bodyguards- Gibbs in his “Cesar” fedora sharp suit and cigar- onlookers in awe and the song “Pays the Cost to be The Boss” plays with James Browns distinctive vocals!! Awesome!!
As a favor to Fred since they were such good “Friends”, Sammy should’ve taken a pay cut to be in the film . If Sinatra asked him to take a pay cut to do a film, he would’ve done it!
@@charliemunk2947 I loved Sammy and I’m a big fan. However, i know for a fact if Sinatra called him to do a gig anywhere in the world, he would’ve run out the door and got on the first plane. When your brotha calls u for something then the money ain’t right or this or that.
Mr Williamson you are the best, I loved the movie three the hard way which you played in! You don't need to live up to Hollywoods standards, they need to live to your s!😮
Loved that movie! Not crazy about the sequel. Not really sure there was a need for a sequel when we are led to believe his character dies at the end. 😮😮 Yes, spoiler alert but it's a 50 year old movie. 😅😅
Its very easy for someone today to look at the films of the 70´s with jaded viewpoint. You have to understand the era and the culture of that time period. Black actors had to try to make their own films with low budgets and also something entertaining. There were no special effects or CGI. You had some stunt men and they filmed in locations local to the area. Fred (The Hammer) Williamson was a stand out football player for KS Chiefs in an era where hits on quarterbacks and receivers would get you arrested today. Football players of that time did not make a lot of money and most in the off season had to get regular jobs. Let´s give props and respect to Fred because he made decent films that were entertaining, so what if the plots were cheesy. I watch a lot of films today and they borrow so much from past movies its not funny. Fred Williamson is and OG when it meant something. He always represented in his films!
I’ve actually never seen any Fred Williamson movies other than Original Gangsters and I’m black from NY. I saw a lot of Pam Greer movies, Across 110th Street and a few others. White Hollywood doesn’t like ending scenes that aren’t predictable…
Me,my sister and best friend use to go to the Fox Theater and your movies all the time, you definitely remind me of my dad and was one of my childhood heroes. Thank You.
That was the most expensive $5.50 he ever spent.......many times, the soundtrack did way better than the movie as far as sales. For Fred to relinquish ALL rights to the soundtrack is not a "good" deal............
What’s the name of that movie he played in with him and I think Pam Grier where they killed that little boy with the Afro and put him in a plastic bag and dumped him off a motorcycle.

@@Candy173828Exactly! People misunderstood Michael Jackson.

Fred Williamson is as solid as they come! Thank you for making Gary people proud!
He makes Gary looked better than Freddie Gibbs on any given day 😂
@@draines9237 100% but it’s sad because Gibbs say he’s from there every other song but he’s childish and reckless
yes Born and raised!..We good people!🖤🙏🏾✊🏾💪🏾😎..He a Goat
Classic movie and soundtrack.
“Blind Man Can See It” is the funkiest track on that album

james brown was already a millionaire with big hits damn 5 dollar😂
Royalties. He would still be getting money from it today if he still owned it. Backend is where the real money is.
I’m sure JB made hundreds of thousands, if not, millions on the back end, royalties etc..
THAT MAN BOLT, the original "Chocolate Man"👍🏾
Chocolate Man with nuts! LOL
Chocolate Man with nuts! LOL 😅
I will always see him as Tommy Gibbs Black Caesar
People in Business today need to take this sound advice. So many are busy ripping each other off for pennies when they could flourish by simply working together

✨BLACK CAESAR ✨

I HAD DONE. CC ENGLISH
Thank you Mr. Williamson for making my childhood wonderful thru your movies back in the 70's. I now have all of them on DVD!
Word!!! I have most of his movies.
Paid The Cost To Be The Boss is my jam! It’s in heavy rotation! Thank you Fred Williamson for giving James Brown ownership of his music!

FUCKING CLASSIC!!!!!
Don't forget that NASTY german luger pistol he carried!!
5 dollars in 1973 was about 35 dollars today, that was a lot of money in those days 😂😂
Don’t forget the whopping 50 cents
That $5.50 was brotherly love that’s missed today. I’m sure JB made hundreds of thousands, if not, millions on the back end, royalties etc..
Black Caesar was great. The Mack was one of my favorite movies from that time too.
Definitely one of my top films with “The Five Heartbeats” and “Monkey Hustle” with Yaphet Kotto and Rudy Ray Moore. Back when we was cool for real.
Truck turner👌🏾

Food for thought
Sammy? Black Caesar?
🤔
Now that fair. James Brown gets to keep the rights to the music soundtrack and make the profit that way.
That'ss a hell of a deal he made with James Brown. The most sampled artist in Hip Hop.

💗 the sequel too HELL UP IN HARLEM. Edwin Starr dud the music and it is 🔥 as well. Janes Brown was suppose to do that one too ...but glad Starr did
Sammy Davis had handlers that made sure the movie he made went right back into the YT folks hands with 75 person entourage
That soundtrack was awesome. It matched the movie. Black excellence
Someone should remind him he made Children of the Corn 57.! That definitely ain’t make money 🤣🤣🤣
