    9:07 It always amazes me how LONG it takes these people to hit the silent alarms during robberies........Even though they have ample opportunity, they almost never hit it until the person is leaving the scene.......the point of a silent alarm is to hit it the second you realize you are getting robbed.........

    • @EShirako
      @EShirako Рік тому

      It tends to surprise people, except in rare cases where a moron telegraphs their plan so obviously. The Moment itself is like "Oh crap oh crap oh crap!" and only when they skedaddle for the door do most people think, "Oh...right!" and then hit it.
      It seems stupid, but 'having a run in your face' can claim your attention in an amazing manner. "Thinky-things" happen once "Survival" is off the table for the moment.
      Source: Worked in a semi-sketchy gas station for quite a while...seen it, cleaned up after it, been tangentially present for some. We had a silent alarm, and even a 'life-alert style pendant' for the manager to wear. I bet if I'd known to look back then, all of the robberies had the button happen later...EXCEPT one.
      The one exception was with some older-teens who forgot they'd done the 'stack up some cases of beer then scoot out the door' trick with us before. They pull into the spots right outside the doors, parking BACKWARDS (for the fastest escape...so the truck was running already AND was aimed to just hit the gas and go) just like they had done before. We employees did the "Is this them AGAIN?!" thing quick among ourselves but yep, it was them again! Once one 'sneaky' stack of beer was queued up to grab on the way out the door we tripped the alarm...and I went and pretended to check the trash right outside the door. Instead of actually checking the trash, I slipped the door bolts that secure the dual-door style of doors in the middle, top-and-bottom, then QUIETLY threw the deadbolt as well.
      I WISH we'd had a smartphone to record their twin faceplants as the two lean-looking preppies (or jai-alai-jocks maybe?) go BLA-BLAM! into the doors. Beer everywhere, one boy was out cold for a bit, the other was on the floor but still conscious. He looked like we'd announced we'd cheated at tic-tac-toe while he was in the bathroom or something, it was clearly TOTALLY unfair to them, how could we have known of their clever plan?! Sadly, I never thought to laugh AT them, just *about* them...and the greasy face-marks each left on the door's glass. :D The cops arrived just a few moments later, we didn't even have to decide if we'd need to tell them to "stay down" or whatever. The out cold one actually was out for a good 20, 30 seconds or so, now that I think about it. I hope he got that concussion looked at in jail!
      My boss could hardly stop laughing after we told him about the 'attempted robbery' and how it had gone, so that was rare to see too. And only that NOT-threatening moment allowed us the seconds needed to go, "Hey! Should we trip the alarm? I mean, we KNOW they're about to do it, but..." When someone had a GUN out...we all paid attention to the gun until it was out of our faces!
      So at least for on my shifts, if someone stole 'terrible but high-density food', like 'all of our wizened-looking hot dogs on the roller machines', we'd just clean the rollers (No, really, we did! It gets SO baked-on!) as best as we could and mark the previous shriveled-nubs as 'disposed of'. I mean...it was true in a way! Plus, if I didn't have to throw them out and they got to feed someone who had been desperate enough to steal shriveled-up gas station hot dogs/semi-jerky-strips, well, that's a bonus in my book! If you tried to steal milk...ehhh, that's a huge 'trigger' of mine, but in a good way. I stop folks, but then *I* pay for it. I LOOOOVE milk, and 'share the love' where it looks needful. If they don't try to knock me out when I stop them, I'll buy the milk for them, and then tell them to 'go grab a few other sensible things for food or whatever quick too', and I'd send them off with a "Please never do this again," and at least *I* never had someone try to steal milk twice. I was both happy that I could change at least THAT much of someone's awful life by telling them to go get some Chef-Boy-ar-Dee cans of stew because they were on sale or whatever, but also sad that I had a person SO desperate that they'd tried to steal from the store and were GRATEFUL to get a few cans of "At least it's not slop" so they/their wife/kid/whoever won't have to go to bed starving that night.
      And of course, If I saw someone stealing baby food and they obviously looked like a total burned out meth-head BUT still had their teeth, well, "I didn't see what happened", because 'strung-out meth-heads with teeth' are generally single moms/dads and...I saw nothing, just go feed the baby. 😕 You'd think with how much R's love to force people to HAVE babies, they'd set up something to make sure those same now-newborns never go HUNGRY, but I guess that's too sensible to ask of them. Maybe I can start a conspiracy theory that the Dems have had 'bad pre-and-postnatal care standards in the US' as some part of that insane baby-eating plot? That whole stupid Q thing, you know? Maybe we can combat the "Evil demonic baby-eaters' by funding maternity wards and public hospitals half-decently once more.
      ...and while I'm wishing, I'd STILL love to get a pony. :(
      Anyway. I maintain that if we cannot take care of our new mothers and babies, we deserve everything else that America comes to. People shout about 'Woke', but there's no mention of taking care of moms AFTER they have their babies...even leaving them with no follow-up care if they have no insurance, leaving them to struggle to take care of their house and baby alone, or whatever. If we make a big deal out of them being 'unborn persons' and not 'a fetus', why are they only allowed to be killed once they get torn out of someone's C-section? New moms need REST and a bit of support 'from their village' if they have dysfunctional/deceased parents or whatever.
      We're Doing It Rong. Last word deliberately misspelled for emphasis.

      @@scottmurphy4278Mm-hm. John was in his fifties when the original "World's Wildest Police Videos" debuted in 1998 as he was born in 1944. By the time the reboot debuted in 2012; John was sixty-eight. Since the show has ended and is no longer shown in reruns I like to think John Bunnell spends his days hunting and fishing (like a lot of people in Oregon) and also spending time with his wife, his son Mark and even his grandkids. I bet his grandkids enjoy the stories Grandpa John tells of his time in law enforcement with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Department and as a TV host. Personally I think it would be interesting if John got to do a Ted talk.
