  • Dr. Scott Taylor demonstrates the Gonstead technique on a patient's upper cervical spine in this video. This method often uses x-rays to determine the exact vertebrae needing adjustment. It is frequently done with the patient seated versus lying down.
For the upper neck, Dr. Taylor contacts the spine then performs a precise, quick motion to restore normal motion. The Gonstead adjustment is very effective for headaches, atlas or axis issues, and upper cervical pain. Patients often report hearing popping sounds as the joints are mobilized.
The goal is to move the joints and improve function, not necessarily create an audible pop. Gonstead focuses on being gentle and tailored to the patient's needs.
