Extract from the documentary "The Seven Ages of Music" 1992 by The Schadeberg Movie Company. The film looks at the development of Southern African music.
On the left bro MaOoi. Was our neigbour at section called Vergenoeg 😊, Vede. Grew knowing about the in Ink Spots but was not lucky to see them perform. In 60s and 70s apartheid was at it's peak and township life had changed forever 😢
Thanks a lot for downloading these great moments and voices inn our history. I am reminded of my grandmother and aunts playing these songs on our gramaphone.
The African Inkspots have out lived their competitors, the Manhattan Brothers. Their leading lady was Dolly Rathebe, a beauty model and jazz singer, now late, the Manhattan Brothers had Helen Kwenani or Miriam Makeba. There is only one original Manhattan Brothers still alive today, at this point I only know the leader of the Inkspots, Joseph Mogotsi that passed away then the younger brother took up the lead vocals, Matthew "showman" Mogotsi. The Inkspots just love to sing! Look at their body language as they sing. Schadeberg has captured most memorable moments in both Drum and pictures.
Comical, too funny. Every thing America do they try to do. There's nothing wrong with that because Americans adopted dance and so many other trends but America's 1990" s is Africa's 1960's and 70's. Be better role models for these people and support their growth.
Proud to listen to such wonderful voices again today we are proud all 3 of them lived around vedevede good to be reminded of our uncles ❤❤❤
