Pakao Košara (The Battle of Košare)

The Battle of Košare, or the Hell of Košare, was a battle between members of the Yugoslav Army and members of the terrorist KLA, supported by the regular Army of Albania and NATO aviation. The battle was fought around the Ras Košares border crossing on the border of the FR Yugoslavia and the Republic of Albania between April 9 and June 10, 1999, during the NATO bombing of the FRY.
The aim of the attack from the Albanian side (Operation Strela) was to carry out a land invasion of Kosovo and Metohija and to cut communication between the VJ units in Djakovica and Prizren. Also, another goal was the occupation of the wider area of Metohija.[6][7] After heavy fighting, the VJ managed to defeat the attacker and prevent his penetration into Kosovo and Metohija. The KLA managed to capture the Košara watchtower due to the artillery support of the Army of Albania, the support of NATO aviation and the small number of VJ soldiers in the area who had to withdraw, but they were defeated in their plan of land invasion in that direction despite the support they had.
