    Okay, people have been comparing Kawamura to Kuroko but that steal at 2:35 is set up by a situation straight out of Kuroko no Basuke. The Bulls' player leaned back and lost his balance because the faster, lighter Kawamura used the weight/size difference to his advantage to disappear just as the pass was thrown. High IQ play.

He's after all a 6'1, 29 year old PG, i.e., he is an undersized player who has fully realized his potential, playing the least influential position on defense. Sure he has breakout games here and there throughout his career and his contract is not too bad. But a player of his caliber still making mistake like this? In preseason game? Man that's laughable to say the least...

    • @asianbaseballers
      @asianbaseballers Місяць тому +5

      It's not that the bulls are totally blameless, but this is what Kawamura does. He spaces enough that it makes guys complacent. His quick feet allows him to bother someone enough that it makes them hesitant to release the ball. He's easily the quickest guy on the court. It's not that Yuki is an elite defender. It's just that he's so much quicker than everyone else that they can't predict which directions he's going. It also allows him to blow by anybody. But, he's like an engine that takes awhile to heat up. I'm waiting for a team to realize this and grab the first opportunity to steal Yuki out of the Grizzlies and have them regret this decision. Kawamura can drop 40 when he passes the cooling point.

      Exactly. And with Steph Curry pioneering an entire generation of 'speed and shooting' players... being big is no longer a requirement. If you have a 3 ball that consistently goes in, you can always take back whatever's given from inside the arc plus interest. If your 3 keeps going in, then the other team has no damn choice but to come stop you outside... which opens up the inside. The next few generations will be interesting to watch as we slowly move to a more diverse game that's no longer dominated by height and strength.

    Fast feet, strongly built, and high IQ. Great for perimeter guarding, but his main weakness will be shot contests on jumpers and switching mismatches in the paint where buckets will be more free for Small Forwards, whereas for the normal NBA height only PF or Centers get those easy free buckets near the paint because of their height advantage. You have to use him strategically and he has to have high defensive IQ, but he can definitely make an impact on the floor.

    Short guys with quick feet are not an easy matchup if you play facing them. It's actually easier to put the ball on the floor against taller players. Trying to drive against a short guy forces you to dribble even lower, which if you're not used to it, will make you feel uncomfortable. Posting up is a different story. If Yuki didn't get help from the big man in the post, it would be an easy basket every time for the mismatch. But yes, he reads the game really well; that's why he has a contract.

    Part of the problem is players are too enamored w/ hitting the 3 as opposed to hitting a higher percentage shot. Leave it to the true long range assassins & be smart about the rest of your strategy like taking advantage of matchups where u can.

    defensivly his center of gravity is very low and he seems decently strong so running him over prolly isnt so easy for most players, as mentioned he slides his feet well so he isnt an absolute negative on defense. that is until he gets to the playoffs where teams will defenetly target him if he sees the floor.
