Excuse is a sad song, but in a more "awkward" way than the other nostalgic musics. It more reflects regret. It's crazy how all of Daniel Rosenfeld's musics convey emotions so strongly.
it fills me with thoughts of humans doing evil things like breeding animals for food, terraforming earth etc. which could be why the song is called an excuse, for the terrible things we do but we somewhat have to

This song scares me. Every song in Minecraft I am very familiar with. I’ve been playing the game on, and off for many years. This song.. it gives me this feeling like I’ve heard it before on one foggy minecraft night years ago but it’s so distant compared to everything else in the game. Despite evoking that same sense of nostalgia, it also is an incredibly unnerving tune, and I know I’ve never heard it before. The bizarre mix of the knowledge I’ve never heard it before, and the vividly nostalgic similarity it imitates those memories with, while also sounding like a distortion/ mangled version of those vivid memories from my childhood.. it’s unnerving.

If you listen closely to the end of thirteen and the beginning of this song, this song almost sounds like a continuation of thirteen. This song really makes me think about this year, yesterday I went out of my house and everything just looks so sad and dead, I passed a few schools and they look grey, the colors of the walls that once were painted to bring joy to the kids it's just gone. The playground looks like a graveyard, some of the games were broken and some trees fell in the way, the classrooms were literally empty and the wind was cold. The road was all broken and there was nothing around me, just some empty houses, with no owner, trash everywhere and big amounts of dirt by the sunset, the sky was full of clouds and there were ashes that came from some fire because of the people that burn trash here. In the distance I could see some lights from houses that did have someone living inside them, I saw a few dogs pass by, their bones could be seen.. they ignored us and went straight into the bass amount of nothing, searching for food between all of that trash, the trees were dead and the stores that could be seen in the distance were closed. This song evokes the feelings of going through a traumatic experience, then having to slowly go mad over trying to process this. Slowly, you lose your thoughts, control, and you feel... lost. Then, comes the sad, slow, realization of grief. And realizing you have to live with this. Forever. This song is this exact emotion, encapsulated in a song. C418 is a legitimate genius when it comes to bringing out certain emotions. This is one of my favorite songs because of how it makes you feel. Most songs can't do that for me.
The SECOND the first few notes played, I was immediately ripped back to a couple of years ago, where I DREAMT of that SAME CAMPER with THIS song in that dream!!!!
this feels like waking up one day, the only light in the house is from the windows, it's a quiet morning. you go downstairs and no one's awake. you check in your parents bedroom, but no one is there. maybe they had to take a trip to the store, or went to get breakfast? but peeking into the garage, their car is still there. that's weird.. so you go outside for a short walk, your nose feels stuffy and you want some fresh air. the street is empty, no moving cars, no one walking their dog, no birds even, and it seems like everyone has disappeared. you're not dreaming, but it feels so surreal. the sun is shining, it looks like it's about noon, people should be awake by now. but no one is. then you head back home feeling oddly calm, usually you'd be panicking at this. but you don't really feel *anything.* you search the whole house for anyone at all with no luck. it still doesn't feel like it's the end, but instead that things are strangely frozen. maybe things will go back to normal if you just take a nap...
This really is one of the most underrated Minecraft songs out there. It’s so melancholy and dark, yet at points in the melody, it distorts, hinting at something far more sinister. I can’t believe all of this cane from a video game, Minecraft sure is something.
Fun fact: This song actually does appear on a disc. If you go listen to the song "Thirteen" on the "Minecraft Volume Alpha." Album, at the very end, you can actually hear what appears to be the start of this song. Just listen carefully when their is about three seconds left in "Thirteen."
its like the feeling of losing the one you loved, like a best friend and feel alone whiout no one, thats a good music for horror games, we aprciiate it
the fear of rejection, like having the fear to the one you love doesent have the same feling and even inf that person comes back you would never talk about your fellings
listening to this song at 5am, this truly depicts the feeling of loneliness. at least for me that is, everything is dark around me except for the curtain that is opened showing the blueish/grayish sky that is starting to appear as the sun rises, i enjoy this moment. but, then again i wish that i didn’t feel like this. i miss when i played minecraft with my friends, much more happy and peaceful times.
I saw someone comment how this song is like wanting to apologize to someone but not having the gut. to me it’s like wanting and needing to apologize to someone when you didn’t do anything. it’s heartbreaking
I stand on a desolate bridge suspended high above a vast, empty world, a testament to the dreams I poured into this silent landscape. This bridge, lined with evenly spaced trees and torches that cast faint, flickering lights, stretches ahead, its distant end vanishing into a thick, oppressive fog. Each torch struggles against the endless twilight, fighting to hold back the darkness that surrounds my creation. Beyond these walls lies a castle, shrouded from view, cloaked in mist, as if the world itself is reluctant to reveal what lies ahead, keeping it hauntingly out of reach. The trees stand tall and alone, silent guardians that know neither wind nor life, frozen in a posture that feels almost mournful. Each one, rooted in place, feels as distant as the memories of building it, like relics from a time and space that no longer feel entirely real. As C418's "Excuse" plays in the background, its haunting, melancholy notes twist through the air, echoing against stone and sky. There’s an ache in the music, an inexplicable yearning that seems to mirror the solitude of this world. The song pulls me back to moments of creation, yet now it feels as if I am wandering through ruins, searching for something I’ve long lost. The silence is unsettling; each step feels heavier as if the weight of the world presses down on me. I know I am alone here-no other voices, no other footsteps. And yet, in this quiet stillness, a feeling lingers, a sense that perhaps I’m not the only presence in this forsaken place. It’s as if the shadows themselves hold secrets, remnants of a being long forgotten. Herobrine. The legend that haunts the dark edges of Minecraft’s lore, adding an eerie sense of watchfulness to the empty streets. In the midst of my creations, I feel a pair of unseen eyes-reminding me that even in solitude, there’s something unsettling just beyond the edge of my view. (b1.7.3)
I love this soundtrack Its amazing I literally fall as sleep to this. The sounds give you a mysterious feeling. Idk I just get a mysterious feeling like mystery’s of life in general. This probably doesn’t make sense to anyone and I’m rambling again but if anyone can relate let me know.
This should play if you stick around in the main part of the end after killing the ender dragon. The adrenaline wears off, the excitement of victory at the end of it all, after all your achievements, everything you’ve accomplished… Replaced by emptiness. What is there to accomplish now? You’ve beat the only built in goal. You’ve won. So why do you feel so hollow? Was this adventure worth anything at all? The world continues. But it’s just not the same when you’re directionless.
You are stuck in an endless garden with fountains, hedges, eerie statutes and pillars all covered in ivy with a stone path that leads to nowhere, a labyrinth, the sky is grey and with the fog you can only see just ahead of you as you wonder how you got there
This song makes me sad, makes me feel lonely, minecraft hasn't changed, we have. I just want to go back, when didn't have to care about anything, to embrace those moments. Thank you for making these songs, they hit hard.
This is why I love minecraft. They come up with a goodupdate each year, so its always fresh. And the soundtrack can pull you in. And its not all fun, like haggstorm. Minecraft has grown such a wide community, a wholesome community (some of us anyways) with youtubers helping grow the platform, and the devs working on creating it a whole game. But back to the soundtrack, it can come with so many emotions, sad, happy, angry, pain, a wide variety. For me, this song reminds me of, when you feel low in life, and you cant get back up. Or the spoils of war, with broken down, abandoned citys, dust everywhere, and nature repopulating. But in the end, you become more happy.
They should add this to the Deep Dark ruins when they come out, it would fit, just faintly playing in the background as you wander the dark ruins, wondering what used to be.
The versatility of this song is crazy. It fits both hot and cold, puzzles, loss/grief, mystery, familiarity, loneliness, darkness, light... pretty much anything you can think of, and its opposite. So many different moods in one. That's the power of a reverberated piano I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think I've ever been ripped away from sadness into an actual laughing fit so quickly. I completely forgot about that clip and after reading this comment section I needed that
What I think about~ A child awoken into the darkness, feeling nothing but loneliness and confusion... Climbs out of a strange hole... Out of the dim eerie hole he see's nothing but pale brown fog surrounding the sky... Walking in a wasteland... Full with determination he continues his journey... Finally, the fog clears up and finds broken down buildings surrounding him... Having no clue what happened... Continues his journey and hears crying in a distance... Walks down a black ally way... Finding a young girl crying In a corner... Done!
You climb to the top of a large hill in Minecraft. You gaze upon the vast ocean of trees in front of you. You scan the horizon for any signs of life and then, as if to answer the silence whispers- “There’s no one left.”
Even though Thirteen and Excuse aren't my favorite songs in this album, one of my favorite moments in this album is the transition between these two songs. It's so perfect.
i often come here, the place that the minecraft soundtrack (vol. alpha) puts you in. its a very beautiful, if non-existent place. i grew up playing minecraft, it was like an entire wave of youth's way to express, or in cases cope. and it's not like those people just disappeared, so its almost like some sort of really weird dis-jointed friend group, even just knowing someone else grew up on the same game as you brings them a bit closer. i think thats why i came here after hearing about techno, even if i wasnt a fan of his personally, i really felt it. mortality, life and death, they're all fickle things lads. love your family, and keep your blood close. with that, prayers and love to bro, he went out the strongest.
You know that your excuse is a fabrication you created to stave a feeling off. Now you're by yourself, with nothing but your thoughts to keep you company. In your melancholy solitude you contend with the stillness. And in that stillness --- grief. You begin to understand that this isn't an emotional reaction, but your deeply primal rationality speaking. "You know, that might have been your last chance."
The embodiment of loneliness and nothingness. The way that the piano echoes adds a sense of large scale to music as if in a large open area and the slight occasional deviations in tone add an element of constant change . It is amazing that so little can create so much.
Never realized Minecraft could be so depressing and extremely nostalgic until hearing this bop, i wish i could return to the good old times of early 2010s tbh
I’ve never heard this old Minecraft song before and I regret not hearing it sooner. It brings up emotions I’ve felt several times and cannot put into words, but this song puts it into sound.
here, it reminds me of the time, i was a noob.... the time i had to explore everything, for the first times, LET ME GET THOSE TIMES BACK! I MISS THE ALPHA TIMES! I MISS ALPHA 1.2
This song sounds like you're alone on a snowy mountain sitting motionless in a pile of snow, but you're not cold, and the wind, despite it's harsh howling, doesn't affect you even the slightest. And even though there's so much empty space around you, you still feel like your trapped in a small box and you can't move or breathe. And you know you should be worried because nobody knows where you are and you don't know how you got there, but you're not because you can feel someone there with you, and you know they're watching over you and making sure that nothing bad will happen to you, even though you don't know where or who they are.
it fills me with thoughts of humans doing evil things like breeding animals for food, terraforming earth etc. which could be why the song is called an excuse, for the terrible things we do but we somewhat have to
Easily one of my favorite songs that did not make the cut into the game. It fits the vibe of the older tracks perfectly and would have been a perfect song to play in the nether if it was added.
This song reminds me of the first title updates on Xbox, when the game was simple and the nights were long. I’ve never heard this in game yet when I hear it now all I can think of was those long summer nights building my perfect cuboid world.
This song is so strange and I love it because of that. To me, it really captures the feeling of something being wrong about something you’re familiar with. Like when you have a dream where you visit a place you’ve known very well for years but something feels distorted and wrong.
This feels like you are alone, in darkness trying to find your way back to the outside of the cave with monsters then you pause the game and your alone, in darkness.

Mas, obrigado por ter passado mais de 4 anos junto comigo nessa jornada. Espero rever isto daqui alguns anos, não busque ser alguém... busque ser alguem melhor.

I just encountered a Igloo, I didn't explored it completely, not because it was small, even if it was, but because of privacy, but it could be abandoned, but I just want to be careful. I was about to leave, but I stumbled in a carpet, it revealed a secret door ... for a underground place, my curiosity completely took control of my body. I thought that in my adventures I have seen everything, I haven't, I will not return to that place, not only it was terryfying what I saw there, but I burned it to the ground, not because of my knowladge, but what I saw down there gived me the order. i dont care about privacy anymore
This song gives me a strange nostalgic feeling. When I close my eyes, it reminds me of a Minecraft world with older textures where I'm standing on an overgrown meadow, there are mountains to my right, a forest to my left and an abandoned village in the distance in the light of the sunset Miss the old times when life was good Who aggree‘s😢👍🙏🏻 👇

Most songs can't do that for me.

this feels like waking up one day, the only light in the house is from the windows, it's a quiet morning. you go downstairs and no one's awake. you check in your parents bedroom, but no one is there. maybe they had to take a trip to the store, or went to get breakfast? but peeking into the garage, their car is still there. that's weird..
so you go outside for a short walk, your nose feels stuffy and you want some fresh air. the street is empty, no moving cars, no one walking their dog, no birds even, and it seems like everyone has disappeared. you're not dreaming, but it feels so surreal. the sun is shining, it looks like it's about noon, people should be awake by now. but no one is.
then you head back home feeling oddly calm, usually you'd be panicking at this. but you don't really feel *anything.* you search the whole house for anyone at all with no luck. it still doesn't feel like it's the end, but instead that things are strangely frozen. maybe things will go back to normal if you just take a nap...
This really is one of the most underrated Minecraft songs out there. It’s so melancholy and dark, yet at points in the melody, it distorts, hinting at something far more sinister. I can’t believe all of this cane from a video game, Minecraft sure is something.
Reminds me of a snowy forest that is endlessly beautiful no matter where you look and just well, Peaceful.
minecraft needs more music, they should start adding all c418's tracks to the game so you're never sitting around listening to silence
The silence is just as important as the music.
the silence is part of what minecrafts music work so well

Fun fact: This song actually does appear on a disc. If you go listen to the song "Thirteen" on the "Minecraft Volume Alpha." Album, at the very end, you can actually hear what appears to be the start of this song. Just listen carefully when their is about three seconds left in "Thirteen."

listening to this song at 5am, this truly depicts the feeling of loneliness. at least for me that is, everything is dark around me except for the curtain that is opened showing the blueish/grayish sky that is starting to appear as the sun rises, i enjoy this moment. but, then again i wish that i didn’t feel like this. i miss when i played minecraft with my friends, much more happy and peaceful times.
2013. King78Lord never forget our minecraft world. I will never forget you, wherever you are have a good time.
The adrenaline wears off, the excitement of victory at the end of it all, after all your achievements, everything you’ve accomplished…
Replaced by emptiness.
What is there to accomplish now?
You’ve beat the only built in goal.
You’ve won.
So why do you feel so hollow?
Was this adventure worth anything at all?
The world continues.
But it’s just not the same when you’re directionless.
Б
You are stuck in an endless garden with fountains, hedges, eerie statutes and pillars all covered in ivy with a stone path that leads to nowhere, a labyrinth, the sky is grey and with the fog you can only see just ahead of you as you wonder how you got there
Should have been in the game. This is unironically the best official Minecraft music I have ever heard.
This song is creepy and peaceful at the same time, with the heavy distortion and the slow piano over each other.
They should add this to the Deep Dark ruins when they come out, it would fit, just faintly playing in the background as you wander the dark ruins, wondering what used to be.
there is no EXCUSE why we never realized that minecraft was part of our hearts
You realize your childhood is ending. You realize in your single player world your so so alone

The versatility of this song is crazy. It fits both hot and cold, puzzles, loss/grief, mystery, familiarity, loneliness, darkness, light... pretty much anything you can think of, and its opposite. So many different moods in one. That's the power of a reverberated piano I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you C418 for creating such nostalgic things
This song doesn't evoke any emotions in me.
This song is an emotion.

C418 is the only dude who has the ability to give me goosebumps almost every time I listen to his stuff. Otherworldly sound, man.
it fills me with thoughts of humans doing evil things like breeding animals for food, terraforming earth etc. which could be why the song is called an excuse, for the terrible things we do but we somewhat have to
Easily one of my favorite songs that did not make the cut into the game. It fits the vibe of the older tracks perfectly and would have been a perfect song to play in the nether if it was added.

This song is so strange and I love it because of that. To me, it really captures the feeling of something being wrong about something you’re familiar with. Like when you have a dream where you visit a place you’ve known very well for years but something feels distorted and wrong.
the delay and reverb is actually used in a crazy way! It's not just piano

If only C418 was still making music for Minecraft. This would be perfect for the deep dark!
This feels like you are alone, in darkness trying to find your way back to the outside of the cave with monsters then you pause the game and your alone, in darkness.

alpha, intro, excuse. the three most underated tracks of all time. they are so good.
When I close my eyes, it reminds me of a Minecraft world with older textures where I'm standing on an overgrown meadow, there are mountains to my right, a forest to my left and an abandoned village in the distance in the light of the sunset
