      Definitely a great redesign. For anyone that bought the original Live Air 2s, all they have to do is just buy the new remote, no need to swap the entire system!

    Great review! I have a question: how does the torque compare to the Nucleus Nano and Nucleus M? I've only used the M before (rented for specific projects) and it works flawlessly, however Nucleus Nano owner lamented an inability to pull with heavier cinema lenses. I wonder if this PD Movie Air 2S is closer to the Nano or the M as far as torque.
    Also, any issues with connectivity? I often find I have to reset the Nucleus M as it easily loses connectivity to the remote.
    Thanks!

      Hey hey Daniele!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      I unfortunately have not had much experience with heavier cinema lenses and just how heavy the focus ring is. My "heaviest" focus ring drag is from my Sigma 18-35 (photo version) and this PD Movie motor works that lens just fine.
      I will say I have see PD movie motors used on canon cine zoom lenses at NAB 2019 and they moved the Zoom, Iris, and Focus rings just fine.
      Based on just that experience, I feel it should do well with most modern cine lenses. Older cine lenses that may have had different drag standards could potentially reach the PD movie motors limits. But with out further info from other DP's, its hard to make a definitive call.
      As for connection problems, I personally have not run into any whether I am 15ft away or having the focus wheel attached to the camera rig. It's stayed connected and I've never had to manually reconnect the system.
      Hope some of this info helps!
      Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

    Another good review. Can the wheel speed be adjusted in the app? Can it be powered by USB or DC?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker 2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Michael!
      The wheel speed can't be adjust in the app, probably because the focus remote actually has hard stops and doesn't continuously free spin.
      The motor can only be powered by the two swappable batteries they provide you in the package. It would be interesting if in the future they provide a USB-C PD dummy battery so that it can reach enough voltage for torque. The remote can't be powered via USB because the way it plugs into the remote to recharge the internal battery, the cable will spin with the remote as you pull focus.

    • @Trevellian
      @Trevellian 2 роки тому

      @@TLDR_filmmaker For this amount of money, would really want wheel speed to be adjustable. Since it's fly-by-wire, it's certainly possible.
      Have wired up my own USB cables to power things not intended to be powered by USB. For USB a battery banks, a dummy battery with the proper voltage regulator. For USB c PD batteries, a type-c PD trigger board works.

    Looks like a great design, but in its smaller configuration it seems like you'd be at risk of loosening the 1/4-20 screw when turning the focus wheel. And it seems like it would be hard to screw a moving wheel down tightly. Did you notice that happening at all?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker 2 роки тому +2

      Hey hey Nicholas!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      The smaller configurations has no problems being screwed down tightly because the controller actually has hard stops so you can really tighten it down. As for coming loose when rotating it the other way, there is very very minimal chance that you'll somehow unscrew it with your fingers because you'll hit that hard stop and know not to turn it any further. From my use case in the smaller configuration I never felt that it would loosen up. Hope this helps!

    Wow, this is a very versatile wireless follow focus. !

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker 2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Worth it or not!
      Definitely, for what it is I think its pretty much perfect! There is only one situation where I feel a "free rotation" mode would be needed is if you are using mirrorless lenses that have infinite focus ring rotation with a linear mapping. However its not possible with this wheel because there is a physical stop on the focus thumb wheel. But for people that are using lenses that have hard stops, this is a great follow focus for these lenses!

    Do they sell a charger in the US for these batteries?

      Hey hey again Steven!
      If you're talking about the Motor battery charger. From what I can tell it seems the usual places don't have any USA Stock, they are ordered in from China. If you are talking about the button battery for the focus wheel, I have seen a couple on Amazon. I have yet to buy another Button battery at the moment.

      Hey hey MHM!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      Yes you can, but this depends on what type of gimbal you have and what your camera lens combo is. It's all about balancing enough weight on the camera body side when configuring a follow focus motor. And to make sure your gimbal cage is large enough to slide the camera back far enough without hitting the motor.

    there seem to be a lot of latency between input and motor movement

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker 2 роки тому

      Hey hey daslolol!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      The latency is only really noticeable if you are trying to do a super fast wrack from infinity to close up, the reason is for the motor to ramp up speed to make the super fast move. If you are just using it like normal and doing a follow focus on someone in a scene, the latency is not there.
