The 2023 US Open main draw runs from August 28 - September 10 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. They should have made a special exception and allowed the set to be played out until a player won by two games. Then Isner could have broken the 70-68 record (he has with Mahut). Big John could have won, maybe 78-76, and gone out in new-record blaze of glory.
