  • Extra skin can be quite challenging and frustrating to work with. Well most African animals will have extra skin that we need to deal with and work them into either a form of wrinkles in the proper area or we need to compact the stretch we have had and get rid of the slack. In this Part you will see an example of how this can be done.
    Hope you like the show. If you have any questions please leave it in the comment area.
    Thanks for watching.

    Hey man, if you ever get the chance it would be awesome to see you mount a black wildebeest or a Cape buffalo keep up the good work

      I have done both in the past before the channel was created. It all depends if I get them in., but I will if I do.

    Adding clay to the armpit areas, as well as the Pectoral muscle area in the center itself, allows you to bring the 'Pecs' down, as well as tuck some of that 'excess' skin in the armpits, and create the natural wrinkles seen on the living animals ... Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu .. all of the larger African species can benefit from that. You'll even get that in some Deer ... the mannikins were sculpted for one specific individual, and we must make the mannikin fit the skin, if it means adding to or removing from, or a combination of both.

      True... actually I did the wrinkles on the brisket of the last eland shoulder mount I mounted , decided to do it only on life size or half size mounts from there on.

    Very nice I really enjoy your videos. I’ve been an on and off again taxidermist for 35+ years now and I really enjoy seeing things I’ve never got to do. I made the trip to Africa in 2019 and when I got my animals a few months ago I was very disappointed in the quality of the horns and how they where over boiled and dried out especially my kudu horns. I’ve been searching for any info on restoring them but Not much out there but appears to a common problem. Any info on the subject or even possibly a institutional video on the subject would be nice. Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks and keep up the good work and I’ll be watching.

      Hi Dell
      Thanks for your message. My videos are basically my day to day business projects that I get to put out for people to watch and enjoy. Unfortunately I don’t have any horn repair projects coming up. But what really has happened to your kudu horns ? Are they all cracked and broken around the base?

    Hello Ben. a quick question my friend. Do you use eye-rings in the mammals? Beforehand thanks

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому

      Yes You need to build it with clay around the eye before you pull the skin over.

    Do you have to go to taxidermy school to mount animals

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому +1

      Well... you have to learn it somehow. Schools and courses are one way.
      But is it the only way ? No.

      @@ArtofTaxidermy thank so much I was thinking of trying to mount my own sometime its seems to be easy from watching the videos. Question what is hide paste do you have to use that or could you use regular glue and what kind of clay can be used

    • @ArtofTaxidermy
      @ArtofTaxidermy  3 роки тому

      Your better purchase hide paste from taxidermy suppliers, or dextrin powder to mix it with water, or Roman 555.. and you can use regular potters clay. Critter clay is better but potters will do it very good too.
