Nice overview. Happy Super 6 owner here. Regarding your Battwave confusion; whey you shift and use the HF track it copies the current selected wave but you can't then keep selecting different waves. You have to shift and turn to the HF track again if that makes sense. Rather than a modulator I like to use this in this once mode which means you can then select another wave to layer and mix a 3rd from DDS2 giving you a 3 waveform layer. Use the rate slider to tune the copied waveform, nice!
Hey Gaz - Great show! I've had my UDO for a few months - same cool blue - and the sound is simply amazing. I got it because it DOESN'T have a dis[play (although one would be useful for names ☺ )and the binaural output. Electronic music just begs to be created in stereo and with the Super 6 you're already half way there 😎
Greetings Gaz, I loved your story! I'm glad for you that you had a part in the initial stages of the design of the synth. Wow, Binaural in a synth, that's groundbreaking! I can't wait to hear what that sounds like in a live setting. 👍🎹
What a journey😎 This machine is an absolute dream weaver. The buyers regret went right out the window once I flipped the switch, with the headphones on, and turned some knobs!
@Gaz Williams could you maybe do a 1 year with the Super 6 video. I'm very curious to know what you have been doing with all those amazing updates and I would love to know where you implement this synth the most. Also I wonder if you just like me have to constantly fight the urge to put external effects on it. One because it already sounds marvelous, but secondly because so many effects even in stereo pedal format are actually mono effects and will ruin the binaural effect of the Super 6. More than not did I add effects thinking it would make it sound better only to find out that the pure sound of the Super 6 was actually the best to fit in the mix after all. What's your take on this. Ps love your work, please show us more ways we can support you.
just heard your conversation with Mylar on Why We Bleep, absolutely fabulous. Never knew about the Midibass, but have been having fun with the Sonuus i2m
@@GazWilliams you were talking about something that I couldn't hear quite well on the podcast however, op-z? something like that, lmk know if i'm way off
FPGA = Field Programmable Gate Array Made by Xilinx or Altera/Intel are extremely powerful processors. UDO did an amazing job crafting the sound quality of this synth. Well done indeed!!
Hi Gaz, cool vid! I have a few Hybrids in my studio at the mo...the mighty DSS1, a Gotharman Polyspaze (weird!) & the oddball Casio HT6000, but I’m thinking of adding one of these, just sounds beautiful!
It is the best sounding synth I maybe ever heard and your story kinda fits into that. I was thinking about a big poly and I was between a rev2, this one and a hydra (despite the sound differences). I think I'm going to hold out for the Super 6 until I fixed job security for the next yea's ;). And it really sounds amazing and looks beautiful.
Congratulations! & you got the blue one, how beautiful! It's a real Instrument, and looks like handles like a sportscar. Not too many synths you can say that about, tbh. The only thing keeping me from getting this is the space constraints. ....& The Dreadbox Abyss v2 8 voice & Onyx 6 voice synths :p
This synth is what Roland should have done for its anniversary, frankly. Sounds better than anything Roland’s done in ages, though. I used to own both a J6 and a J8 and honestly i prefer the sound of this to either of those.
you might want to ask the designer if the DAC is running at 2MHz. I doubt it. not all math functions execute in a single clock cycle. if there is an external DAC it is limited by the bus speed and the bandwidth. you can get faster DAC if you PWM and RC low pass filter directly from the FPGA or from an R2R directly from the FPGA. not impossible to run at 2MHz but I think it is unlikely.
Hmmm … how is this ‘Binaural’ mode different to/better than, say, splitting/layering a 16 voice Rev 2 … or a 16 voice Summit … ?! Non-Binaural mode is just a ping-pong mono mode (with only 12 voices) … ? Then ‘Binaural’ mode just restores things to actual stereo … ?! 🤔🤷🏻♂️ Seems like confusing, marketing hype(rbole) … ?! The only real difference I see with the Summit, for example, is that the S6 tends to be brighter; and the Summit tends to be darker … but both can just be eq’d/internally adjusted, I’m sure … 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Hi Gaz - what a great acquisition! Wanted to ask you about the Large Monitor that you use in your studio - looks like a 4K TV, if so which one? Building a new studio for myself soon and was thinking about a 4K TV for Cubase rather than another large monitor...all the best, Tony
The screen is a cheap Samsung TV. It’s not great to be honest but it is nice for Cubase n stuff. When you scroll text it leaves a smeared trail so it’s not nice for visually important work
Gaz! Caught about half of this the other night, but didn't have time to comment. Really liked your statement about using the Super 6 as a performer...with the synth being something that will be PLAYED...not something that will be sequenced with LONG notes or droned for a length of time. 40 years ago, classic polysynths ended up being something similar to the Super 6 because they needed to be playable, giggable, easier-to-control instruments, which this definitely is. Early on with the channel, I had a hard time understanding why some folks thought certain patches I demoed were "boring" or they "sucked" when they were exactly what was needed for playing. Didn't realize that a lot of that feedback was coming from folks who were into LONG, slow ambient/droning notes, where changing/morphing textures were as critical to them as note choice and overall composition was to me. Have to admit I was surprised you made the splurge on this. You were either REALLY impressed, or your channel is pulling in more revenue than I guessed...or both... : ) Planning on meeting Yiannis up at Superbooth in Sept. Hopefully 1) it actually takes place and 2) you make the trip as well. Fingers crossed with all this delta variant crap. Edit: Just saw this ran for 2 hours...so no...I didn't catch half of it...I caught about a 4th of it, lol...
Two different styles. I have the Udo and what I would recommend is to get both, Udo have one of the sweetest stereo I’ve heard but in the mono side, it kinda lacks so I think having another synth to pair with the Udo is a good idea.
Just got the desktop. It’s absolutely incredible. WOW. What a sound.
Is it worth it if I’m primarily on my headphones
Between Gaz and Nick sonicstate has given me the cool synth uncles ive always needed in my life
Gaz no need to apologize for the stories before getting into the synth, the stories are my favourite part.
So glad that you got a superb instrument and share a little bit with us!
This synth sounds like a Jupiter 6, a D50, and an ESQ-1 worked out a domestic partnership.
Wow, great video. Thanks for sharing your Super 6 story with us. It is a wonderful synthesizer.

Binaural just means stereo … 🙄
I would like to have an orange/yellow one like the plastic/tupperware/70's orange color. That would be great!
"Fiesta Red" would be great too, that fiestaware red-orange colour.
What a journey😎

I love the sound of that first patch, a wonderful oddly classic sound. Thanks Gaz
Aww...missed the live stream. Sweet synth Gaz.
Awesome backstory, Gaz. Very interesting details about how this synth came about. Thank you for sharing! New viewer - liked and subscribed.
The poly aftertouch keybed replacement has me eyeing this synth again...
We need more color choices for the Super 6 - I think I would want a forrest green!
I’d like a dusky faded vintage pink/coral lol.
I’d go for the camo...
Pot roast brown for the keyboard and salmon for the desk top.
How did I miss the return of you live stream Gaz? Catching up now and welcome back.
Good to see the Gaz back in action!! Love ya brother.

Excactly right. Good ole Gaz should read a manual for 'teasers' ;-)

I became inpatient and bought a prophet 6 and now am wondering when I will be able to buy the super 6
Please help, trying to decide between this and the ob6, I have already a prophet 5. Many thanks 🙏 😁
Both would be wonderful. The recently released firmware for the Super6 has taken it to the next level though so it would get my vote.
OB-6 … fully analog, and a collaboration of 2 synth legends …
I kind of want to mod one with roygbiv buttons.
subscribed for the good vibes and incredible sounds
need one of these
Bought one :/ no regrets whatsoever

almost got one for the style alone, but wound up going with a Summit (a mutually agreeable trade became available)
