This update would encourage people to spend more investment points onto mantra dmg (e.g. lose your mind, piercing will, etc), and normal builds will suffer. INSTEAD OF NERFING MANTRA DMG, reduce how much dmg multipliers apply to mantras. The devs did this with thresher claws, so they can do it with other things. (e.g. lose your mind now applies a max of 10% dmg bonus to mantras and 15% to m1s). If not, the devs can always make a rate of decay for mantra dmg the higher the dmg multipliers are. (e.g. after 50% dmg mods or scaling to mantra dmg, added dmg mods become less effective). The devs can also give a cap to mantra dmg mods and scaling. (e.g. instead of mantra dmg modifiers being unlimited right now, you can only go up to 70% extra dmg). Finally, the more mantra dmg could reduce mantra scaling (e.g. at 20% dmg modifiers to mantra, dmg scaling with element + level is normal. Beyond 50% dmg mods, scaling is reduced). This way, you would be nerfing specific types of mage builds that purely focus on busted mantra dmg, and not everydayd NORMAL builds

mage builds have basically taken over the game, even the best pve builds are mage builds now lol. I knew a guy who tried to argue that the devs intended this and its not at all cheesy to beat ferryman in 20 seconds using mantras only and parrying him ONE TIME.
I think a good way to combat mantra spam would be to reduce how much damage a mantra does the more you get hit with it, so lets say a rising thunder will do 10%, the next time it hits itll do 8% and after that 6% and it will keep down, but if you wanted to bring this number back up, you have to land 3 m1s and then the number would go back up a percent that way it forces people to engage in m1s, and if they dont want to, they end up you drastically less damage.
this already exists it's just a very minimal reduction, and if you're taking enough damage to the point where your enemies damage is reduced then you're probably dead anyways

I fucking loathe silenthearts. It is the most braindead oath in the entire game. They are always tankier (for multiple reasons) and they ALWAYS do more damage. They also always have more tempo than you because they don't use mantras so they don't waste tempo. If mantras are being nerfed, SILENTHEARET HAS TO GO DOWN WITH US.

And you have to remember that pressing f isn't needed on sh, as all you gotta do is hit and dodge away or slide away. Never should have added vents and messed with parry system and its even dumber that you don't get ether on parrying but on landing hits because that's what enables mage builds to be strong I'd be able to counter people if I had enough ether and didn't have it drain after I had to run after a guy or only parry him because he's outranging/running

It’s not even an either or damage problem. Yes they have both of those, but the structure is all wrong. Mage build run hero blades so they have the best of both worlds. They need to make it so you actually invest into being a mage.

having high ether regen stat would decrease the effectiveness of engage and drain your full reservoir bar in 1.5 ether bars
