  • Virginia Bluebells are a very lovely spring ephemeral plant that is native to the eastern United States. Blooming from mid March until the end of April it's an easy plant to identify. When looking at the plant in bloom it's easy to see where it gets its name from as the flowers are a sort of royal blue color and are in a sort of bell or trumpet like shape. The Flowers can have varying ranges of color from blue to purple and even a sort of magenta hue can be seen along the flowers which open up at different stages of the plants life. The alternating leaves of Virginia Bluebells are long and oval to egg shaped and have smooth margins. The top of the leaf is very vibrant green with the underside having a lighter almost whiteish hue to them. Also on the underside of the leaves we will notice the very prominent veins that form rather sharp ridges, whereas on the top the form a sort of indentation allowing the plant to shed water. The stem of the plant is round and smooth, though it does have a whitish bloom substance that rubs off with your fingers. The whole aboveground part of the plant is edible and can be used in salads, or steamed just like you would any other green or asparagus. Caution must be used however in harvesting this plant, because it can be somewhat slow to establish itself, so use discretion as to prevent overharvesting.

Yes they are! I bought a woodland mix of native seeds and planted them a couple weeks ago, so hopefully I'll have some next year.

I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! I've done a few cooking videos and medicine preparation videos before on my channel. They don't always perform well so I haven't done much recently but I'm hoping to have a few more this year. Thank you for the feedback, it really means a lot!

You know, that's actually an incredible idea I've never thought of! I'll have to give that a try for sure! The interest is there for those kinds of videos and maybe your suggestion will help keep viewers interested. Yeah, Portuguese is a really hard language but thankfully Google translate exists because I only know a few words in various languages. I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos and it's great to have viewers from other countries. Thanks again for the feedback and suggestions, it really means a lot!

Not really. The leaves are only similar somewhat in shape and them having smooth margins. However maybe you're seeing something I don't which happens a lot.
