  • Overlanding trails are few and far between when you are east of the Mississippi. North Carolina has a few to mention, and Hurricane Creek is one of them. If you are looking for shelf roads, creek crossings and a great place to set up camp, this is your spot!

    It’s awesome you get to take the whole family. Unfortunately my wife works weekends, but my daughter and I hit the trails often. That time together is priceless!

      We are truly blessed to have this opportunity! Honestly, I wish we would have started this much earlier than we did, but hindsight is 20/20! I hope one day that you and your family will be able to get the chance to camp/overland together. It has been the best thing (other than Christ) to happen to ours!

    Great video. Hurricane Creek is one of our favorite trails in NC. We finally were able to explore NC 105 yesterday and it has a lot of camping sites. At Uwharrie now and it is another great overlanding site with numerous campsites.

      @@GoCarolinaWild I keep seeing that in most of the videos of Hurricane Creek, especially when wet. It will be a bit before we run it.

    I liked how you used your camper as a base camp and then wheeled with the jeep separately on more of the technical sections. I plan on doing the same with my camper (which is not an off-road trailer). Just curious, how long did you leave your camper unattended and have you ever had issues leaving it at a camp spot like that for an extended period of time? Thanks for the video.

      Thanks for checking out our video! We have left it at camp grounds and right off the actual trail but never longer for the day to go check out some places. One thing we have realized is that the camping/overlanding community is (for the most part) full of honest people looking out for one another!

    Do you remember if there was phone service up there? Not sure if I need to bring my weboost or not

    • @GoCarolinaWild
      @GoCarolinaWild  5 місяців тому

      It's pretty spotty up there. We have Verizon, and it was in and out thru the trail. We carry a sat phone with us because a lot of places we go have zero cell service.

    Next time yall are up this way. at the next exit (7 Harmon den) you can run up to Buzzards roost and there are probably a dozen overlanding style roads/Trails in the area that are worth the trip up.

      We were supposed to head over there after running Hurricane Creek, but time sorta got the best of us, and we had to get back to the Opus. We definitely plan on heading back up there!!

    Really enjoyed the video. Glad to see you bought the best JT available, a white one. I bought my JT last year, a Sport S with the MaxTow package to tow my camper and haul astronomy gear. I have a few questions for you. To attempt this trail, you said have 33”s and maybe a lift? How much of a lift do you think? I don’t think I saw one on your hitch but do you recommend one of those skid plates for the hitch? Lastly, great drone shots, great maneuvering through the trees. I’m looking to purchase a drone, what model of drone are you flying? I was thinking of a DJI Mini 3Pro. Thanks again for sharing.

    • @GoCarolinaWild
      @GoCarolinaWild  9 місяців тому

      Thank you so much! So, I did say 33's and a lift, but that was solely a recommendation. You can definitely conquer this trail with a stock 4x4 vehicle, especially with a stock jeep, but you will most certainly bottom out in a few areas. For the hitch, I don't forsee a need for a skid plate. I do not have one, and I have yet to need one, thankfully! There is only one obstacle that will be a bit more on the technical side, and that is closer to the end of the trail.
      The drone I was using in this video was a DJI Air 3. I have now switched to a Mavic 3 Pro due to unfortunately crashing the Air 3 into a tree and it falling 100 ft 😬. The mini Mavic 3 Pro is an amazing drone, and you would be extremely pleased with its capabilities. Just get the insurance for it so you won't have to buy a new one like I did 😂.

      @@GoCarolinaWild Many thanks for the reply, I'll definitely check out the Mavic 3 Pro. We're just outside of Raleigh so looking to try a few trails, probably start with Uwharrie, nothing too extreme. Just need to ditch the stock 245/70/17s for 33"s and new wheels that can handle the wider tires. Looking forward to more of your videos!

    Awesome video, just wondering if the fires in North Carolina affected that area at all if any? We’re going the week after Thanksgiving to do this trail and camp out for the weekend

    • @GoCarolinaWild
      @GoCarolinaWild  10 місяців тому

      We are not sure. When we saw the fire, it was after exiting the tunnel right before the Tennesse state line, so we had already passed the Hurricane Creek exit a while back. We are hoping it didn't spread that far! Sorry we can't be more help. If we do find anything out, we will post it here for you.

      Hey, thank you for the reply! It actually went great with the Opus at Hurricane Creek! There are only a few spots to camp in general, and the Opus could fit in about 3 of those locations!
