This one is in the higher ranks of my wish list. When you recorded the test tone, the input signal sounded much "flatter" than the output of the recording. Is that caused by the tape? It sounds a little bit like a very fast tremolo, I hope you understand what I mean. Another question: you say the 0 dB level is at the 2 o'clock position on the output knob, is this the same on my Akai GX-4000D? In some cases I have to reduce the output to 12 o'clock because it is too hot. It would be useful to know what I can use as the reference level/position. Thank you.

I usually use sand paper to rough up the LED so the light dispersed more evenly in the VU meters. Awesome job on the Akai.

My Akai GX 620 have a problem with the power supply/control board. the traces are all pulling apart. oh well some day I come across a board.
