- This Paris Train accident happened October 22, 1895. The Granville-Paris Express pulled by locomotive 721 failed to stop at the Montparnasse Station in Paris. The engine carreened across 30 metres of the station concourse, crashed through a 60 centimetre thick wall, shot across a terrace and sailed out of the station plummeting onto the Place de Rennes 10 metres below, where it stood on its smokebox. All aboard the train survived, five sustaining injuries: two passengers, the fireman and two crew members; however, one woman on the street below was killed by falling masonary, The accident was caused by a faulty Westinghouse brake and the engine driver who was late and trying to make up lost time. The conductor incurred a 25 franc penalty and the engine driver a 50 franc penalty; he was also sentenced to prison for two months.
The movie "Hugo" turned this true incident into a dream sequence in the movie.
Glad everyone reacted quickly.
The engineer made an error in controlling the train.
Before arriving in the station, he intended to apply the independent brakes.
But by the time he realized his mistake, the train was going too fast for him to stop it.
We are being told from the L’ouest railroad Co. that this employee will be held accountable.
*Railway
“LOOK OUT” Shouted the driver.
“WHERE?!” Shouted Loco No. 721
“OH GOD!”
*Loco No. 721’s Driver applied the emergency brakes, But there was no hope.*
*With a biff and a bash, Loco No. 721 Crashed thru the terminus walls and dangled over the road.*
“AAAAAHHHHHH!” He said.
*His Crew were severely injured, They had to be treated with medical treatments.*
“Oh bother! My funnel is broken! SO IS MY BUFFERS!” He exclaimed.
*Thus, This was Loco No. 721’s Disaster, Ripping apart Montaparnesse Station’s walls.*
I love Hugo Cabret! Such a great book!
Here’s logic: the train was about to hit a blank wall when all of a sudden it switches to the window
Faulty means broken like the trains breaks were broken
if you put 2x speed at 2:29 the train falls like a brick.
cool
Did The Kid Survive?
No
Obviously not if he was clearly on the tracks, but this is just a dream!
how many people die during this crash out on the out side of the train im talking about the inside
Chance thompson just one, go on wikipedia
@@letsanimateit1676 There were 2, and they were INJURED! The one death was a woman OUTSIDE the station.
Goof: The Locomotive Is From Italy.
M zak theres a thing called transporting engines!
i am so nit picky about this movie
Did the boy survived!???
Hugo just got his head decapitated.
That kid want too see emily derail like a camera
This boy got killed
Gordon
Two supporting pillars collapse but the train never hits them.
is that died
train WREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
TAMES
How do i put the cheese in the oven? tHomas OhHh PooR yOu..
From 2:03 to 2:04 train is obviously in Green screen.
and that kids, is why you dont travel on trains that dont have a brakevan
the key might be cursed😶😶😶😶😶😶😶👲🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃BOOM
The same picture is in a library at Denver Union Station. (Denver Colorado USA)
2:19 a hero
the engine has 4 front little wheels and 6 driving wheels but before show the wheels we can se: the engine has 2 little front wheels and 4 driving wheels
And the 6 wheeled one had Walschaerts valve gear and the 4 wheeled one with Stephenson link valve gear
how come they went to prison if it wasn't their fault?
Will Daymond actually it is there fault
heavy boss 809, how?, It's the government's fault for constructing faulty brakes
Maxi The Food Snatcher manufacturer not government
They were going to fast in the first place and killed a person in the crash
It actually was their fault because they should have known better not to go so fast in a station.
Oh wait This is from the movie Hugo? Yall know the game Hugo? The troll that drives on the rail? Well This is the GAME trailer xD
The woman, probably just minding her business and waiting, until OUT OF NO WHERE a train just happened to crash and crush her.😭man that is just HORRIBLE luck.
Mikeey Dee, this isn't cinema sins. So please be quiet. It's very annoying.
everybody on the train should jump off before it smashes into the wall
If you said that there was 1 woman killed by the falling masonary, then why the woman and the news stand weren’t there in the HUGO movie?
I know that the movie was dramatic but is no one gonna mention the fact that the train had to jump a level to crash through the window
You said that there were 5 people injured, but which is actually 6 people have been injured.
Off topic, but does anyone know what is the name of the piano song that plays in the beginning?
They used a 4-6-2 locomotive for this scene as the driving wheel shots. Probably a locomotive from the R&DR.
Pray for Paris
This is weird, for that this accident happened in 1895, but the time of the actual movie is after the great war(1914-1918 if people didn't know.) This is obviously some paranormal activity
Imperium Master It is not paranormal activity what happens is that the dream was a warning to Hugo because if you saw the full movie in the scene where the inspector tried to arrest Hugo before the film ended when Hugo shoots the Automata and falls into the tracks and hugo low to recover it but a train passes and almost the same scene of its
hugo had a nightmare after the crash
So does mean the movie base on what happened October 22, 1895
Anthony Santos this is a dream sequence it’s about a mechanical man
Now that's what I call an express!
10/10 would ride again
Funny because it was actually an express in real life.
@@natrobeson9028 prob someone in the station was like “EPIC”
He applied the brakes, but it was too late!
TamMyBoy thats a thomas and friends reference obviously :3
TamMyBoy He couldn't, the brakes had failed.
Extr3me Gam1ng he was just making a Thomas and friends joke
Dumbass
boy the rule is not to jump on the tracks because it's dangerous
Luckly no one was hurt... but the fat controller would be cross
1895 october ,22 😮😮😢😢🎉🎉❤❤😊😊😊
Mon dieu
I have that same picture in the beginning in my basement
2:09 the train somehow jumps to platform level without flipping or gaining any damage.
Mikeey dee that’s what happened in reality
Don't they have sandboxes to get a grip to the rails and stop easier
This happened during the 1890's. The idea of using sand to grip rails had only started not even a decade before this crash. Some trains weren't fitted with sandboxes. Not until a little while later.
Oh
how can a 2nd storey train station hold up much weight?
even heavier supports
That is based off a better view for Gordon
No it isn’t this is based off of the Montparnasse Disaster
Assuming that Hugo was several meters from the buffers and that the train struck him in the head at over 70 km per hour, then it's pretty obvious he could not have survived that hit.
The fact that he got hit in the head by the train's solid, metal buffers is worse enough. Hugo actually had his head up at 2:09 right before impact. I wouldn't be surprised if it was strong enough to decapitate him.
A better view for gorden is based of of this
@bfdi firey I wonder what the Hugo Paris train accident is based off of 0:
@bfdi firey But the crash IS the montparnasse crash.
@bfdi firey Ohh. I see.
Soon France encounters a devastating war ww1. many soldiers thought in the war and did you know 250,000 tonnes of unexploded bombs are found each year in northern France where most of the fighting took place
HarryhPK 1 what does that have to do with the video?
1895
하
wait, is grand central station in paris, or new york
+Dan Man10 Gaming Grand Central Station is in NYC, but this is Montparnasse Station, in Paris.
+Tsekune Shisiomaru oh,but the accident happened in 1901
Dan Man10 Gaming I don't see your point. Montparnasse Station existed before and during 1901.
+Dan Man10 Gaming I apologize if I sound like a smart ass, but the accident happened in 1895
CoastGuardBrony1 it's ok, I got the info wrong by accident so i fixed it up
The train gets from a curved crash course to a wall with a shoe cleaner-next to it to a straight course head on with windows never seen in any previous shots.
Åp
They moved the locomotive slightly but more or less 721 is still there today!
Really?
Joshua Slocombe
yeah! i guess
+Joshua Slocombe It's not there today.
I thought the real 721 got scrapped
At 2:09 the train is about to hit the buffers but Hugo again disappers.
l'ancêtre du TGV ?
Ben Lakace no
Non
Also there's a whistle much more useful than yelling to get out of the way
2:04 - I think they did blow the whistle
Donald why
si ok
In shots of the trains wheels the train breaks with the wheels moving clock wise. In one shot they go backwards.
What happened to the locomotive itself? That's what I want to know
In real life. The locomotive came to the works and it had very little damage, I believe it was put back in service.
@@green_gun678 Somewhat true but sadly with the introduction to newer locomotives it was scraped
Before the train crash no one notice the boy on the tracks, the breaking train or thinks it about to crash.
just as the train hits the street only 3 people are in the street despite the very busy station .
as the Train crashes though the station several Cgi people disappear.
At 2:18 a news shop is destroyed but there is no one inside.
At 2:00 The camera on the front of the train but Hugo is nowhere to be seen.
At 1:48 we see the tracks shaking. The camera points out of the station but is never seen.
No need to map out the entire clip jesus christ
you aren't cinema sins
Baldi rp
C'mon this is not meant to be real. It is a dream sequence from the movie based on a real train accident in Paris. What is with all the events being criticized? When you dream is it a reality situation? Lighten up. Enjoy the special effects.
The clip was being used as a demonstration. So we would get an idea of what happened during that crash. Which IS real. Whether or not the movie had that clip as a dream sequence is irreverent.
