You shouldn't put the entire 4 liters of oil. The excess oil will be burnt because of overfilling. You had to put 3.75 liters, start the bike, go for a ride, let it have the optimal temperature (5-6 bars), then put it on the center stand, wait a few minutes and the oil will be right at the half of the sight glass. This is all because of the oil cooler and the thermostat that doesn't let the oil flow into the cooler.
Ooooh, i did not know that and I'll keep an eye on it, if i feel it has too much oil in it I'll drain a bit out, good to know to keep my eyes on it, thank you 👍👍👍👍
@@RideWithAlex Having just bought a 137,000 mile example from a guy that put 117K miles on it, if you overfill by enough, it will also foul the air filter. I came up because he admitted he had just overfilled it by a little bit doing the oil change in case I smelled burning oil.
Nice to see the BMW getting maintained! Im sure it will go several hundred thousand kilometers more! I would recommed pouring some oil in the oil filter when installing so that the engine has some oil earlier when first starting, but it is not mandatory:) Great video!
19:18 Best tool in the game. I can vouch for the Xiaomi portable compressor, as I use it for my car and electric scooter. Nice video Alex and looking forward to many more like this one 🍻
Like I said I'm not a trained mechanic just a tinkerer, and as someone with little experience you always run into problems and I find it essential to show that even an oil change is not as straight forward as you would think and you can mess it up with the wrong tools.
Hi, Great Video. That’s one thing I love about the GS. It’s so easy to do Maintenance on them. The previous owner had the Drain Plug and the Oil Filter way too Tight. Some People think you have to Tighten everything down as hard as possible. That’s not the Case and you did it correctly. I enjoyed the Video and look forward to seeing what comes next on the GS. 👍👍
People over tighten it because they don't want them to leak but forget to clean the mating surfaces. And if it it seeps a bit of oil through the filter or the drain plug I leave it like that. One wrong move and a rounded off drain plug is the recipe for a very bad day in the shop and a world of hurt trying to get it out.
You threw us around today quite a bit.. 😂 With a lifting platform we could listen to the heavy breathing while standing as well... At least the work would come much easier.. 😅
Hi Alex, great vid 👍🏽 What tire pressure monitor are you using and does it connect to the battery or is the battery operated? Tnx for your answer. Rgds Raymond
I was always told to do the oil filter up hand tight only as the seal will swell in contact with oil and further tighten the can. You may find it a bit tight to undo next time but should be possible with the nice filter socket. Gosh that old oil coming out was thin even for warm oil! Something very satisfying about doing an oil change. Don’t know why.

I was thinking about that too, to fill tge filter beforehand, will try it next oil change.

Excellent video! Thank you for showing us how to do it, and the parts where you struggle make it all the more helpful.

What a sweet maintenance shop to work in! Is this somehow attached to the storage tent in which you store Brutus?
It's attachex to the showroom and it's basicly the service department for Sym Romania
@@RideWithAlexnice😊
What about your blinking ABS?^^ triggerst me since you showed us the bike for first time 😄....bit nice bike and i hope it'll work for a long time
It's still blinking, bulbs haven't burnt out yet 😂😂😂
When you fill the oil, you should just crank the engine (with the kill switch on). I don't think you should start it. But maybe on BMW it's different.
The service manual says to start it but no throttle and let it idle until the filter fills up and the engine sound changes.
Wanted to see this done thanks for the vid

The lifts we have are for scooters, I'm afraid to put a 300kg motorcycle on them 😂😂😂😂

One from aliexpress, it has it's own battery that you charge every 2-3 months via usb. I paid like 20 euro for it.
Long live Brutus the Beast!👍
One Day, trying to start the bike,as soon as it started, this round oil glass popped out along with a half litter of oil.😮
Mine is leaking a little bit, might look into changing it 🤔
@@RideWithAlex do it as soon as possible... the next thing I'm looking is the ball joint.....ride safe!!
So what kind of bit was that to remove the plug? Was it just the wrong size?
it just had too much flex in it, for alan bolts if they are really tight you need a proper wrench to give it a bit of an impact and brake it loose.
The tank oil is the same with the gearbox tank?
No, this model has engine oil and gearbox oil separate
Huge contrast between scooter oil change and a GS.
one has 0.7L of oil and the other one 4L =))))
question what is your height? cuz im looking to this bike a Bmw R 1100 GS 2000 for 2.5k with only 55km
110Kg
@@RideWithAlex that's your weight 😂🙏

I did it very very very lose on the key, i can't get my fingers in there to get it finger tight 😂😂
