The 1998 Santa Fe switcher is a model of an Alco S-2. They were 105 tons. The 588 model of the NYC switcher is a GE 70 tonner. The 1998s are a much nicer model. You won't go wrong with either one. The features on the 70 tonners can vary a lot. Some had double reduction motors, and some had single. Some had reverse units, and some didn't. Some have a headlight, and some didn't. I would check the headlight in the 1998 switcher. I have found that a lot of the times they come loose and just need to be screwed back in. You can buy replacement parts through Robert Grossman. He has a complete parts list to order from. The tilt couplers are easy to replace. Some eBay sellers have parts sometimes if you know the part you're looking for. Keep in mind that these are not new and are all at least 50 years old or better, and they need to be serviced. The Marx motors are one of the easiest to service and is a good example to learn from.
