    Londoner Jacob has now 6 Grammy Awards to his name and more than likely will add more to that number this year. He is the only British act to win the award for songs off each of his first four albums. Even the Beatles didn't do that!.

    He's not just signaling the volume of the choir, he's signaling their pitches. He does this with his live shows and gets the audience to sing things they've never heard before as a choir. You can flind recordings if you search for audience choir.

    His "Choir" if just a collection of his fans who were in the area, that he invited to come and sing with him. The 5-string guitar (he is self-taught) he asked someone to make for him, because since he has 5 fingers it seemed to him a 5-string guitar would be easier to play. I believe he has tuned it for his own needs and does not follow any standard tuning.

    "You beautiful bastard"....❤😂❤😂 Wonderful reaction! I will be seeing him in concert for the second time in about a month! Judging from your reaction here, you might just dissolve and float away if you saw him live. I have had the good fortune to work as a professional musician/singer in my life of 75 years so far, and I honestly believe that he is more than just a musical genius, but a sort of healer too. Welcome to the magical world of Jacob Collier. 🌟🎶🌟

    Per the 5-string, he uses an interesting mirrored alternate tuning to make things work. Jacob did an interview with the incredible Paul Davids called "How Jacob Collier Reinvented The Guitar" that goes into great depth on the theory and execution. VERY much worth your time.

    • @AdamDray
      @AdamDray 2 місяці тому +1

      Came here to say that. Jacob has tuned his strings in thirds and fourths, with just five strings, completely rejecting tradition.

      That was the first video I ever saw of Jacob. I don't play a single instrument. I was completely enthralled and am still on a deep dive 4 months later. And I saw him live in San Francisco half way in!
      Hey OP - great vibe man. First time seeing your channel and I really enjoyed your takes and how you shared your emotions. Very genuine. Nice spotting on the 5 string.
      Go watch the BBC documentary on Jacob.. pretty crazy stuff, he's 1 of 1.

    The lowest two strings are tuned in 4ths, like a bass, and the higher 3 strings are tuned in fifths like an mandolin. His design and Taylor's execution.

    If you don't know who Jacob Collier is, maybe watch a BBC documentary feature from a few years ago called "Jacob Collier - In the Room Where it Happens." It gives a good overview of Jacob and his incredible music career so far. But...be prepared to be amazed (not kidding!) Just know that legendary music producer Quincy Jones has said of Jacob, "I have never in my life seen a talent like this." ua-cam.com/video/ERvd5QjupSU/v-deo.htmlsi=rdwTK3BG2vkgrsCz
    And, judging by the guitars behind you, you might like a video from a few months ago on the Paul Davids UA-cam channel interviewing Jacob talking about his custom 5-string guitar and unique tuning (which you see in this video): ua-cam.com/video/WknTbYOet4c/v-deo.htmlsi=4nOgfiZCHgtFuh1S

    For your next Jacob Collier reaction, I suggest Hideaway. Specifically the MV with him in his room.

    • @Marklar3
      @Marklar3 2 місяці тому

      Personally I prefer the live arrangement/performance of "Hideaway" for the Paste Magazine Studio.
      It doesn't have the tuning shift of the recorded version, but it has a lot of other cool things.
      And more importantly from my perspective. It's live. Muscians in one room creating music.

    Jacob Collier redefines the frequently overused term ‘musical genius’. In my 60+ years on this planet, I haven’t heard anyone so absurdly talented, and simultaneously someone so young who has truly internalized all of the styles of those who came before him and can incorporate any of them at will, then build upon them to go where the original artists couldn’t imagine.
    I would recommend reacting to some of his earlier work like his cover of “PYT” or his cover of “Don’t You Worry ‘bout a Thing”, both of which highlight his mastery of multiple instruments.
