Actually a really entertaining first final from a neutral perspective. Genuinely didnt know who would win before the game , still did not know by half time. Thought Geelong had a real good chance at coming back after that Dangerfield goal and the one in the 4th but Port ultimately too good. 8/10 would watch again
It was close but I wouldn't call it an well-played game. Some really terrible goal-kicking, reflected in the low final score, and poor possession play on both sides..
Yeah I mostly agree, it was just the high defensive pressure which lead to turnovers and low scoring which you can’t blame anyone for but still a problem.
I found the dropping of marks constantly that should have been taken annoying. I really don't like the stop start short pass game but do admire Port can win big game's when they aren't at their best. I think their tough.

im a crows fan but grew up in the SANFL golden years when Port, Sturt, Norwood ruled and we were kicking Victorian butts in SOO. For 22 games plus finals, per year, i had disdain for port's brutality, but once or twice per year I embraced the MAGPIE'S as they stood side by side with the other SA players from all clubs against the arrogant bullies from Vic..with its 4 x population. So i cant help but support Port at least a bit. This game looked the most like the brutal, and skilful MAGPIES of the 70s/80s. Geelong were excellent here and Port had to be on. Great game but Port's tackling and 1 percenters were pivotal. Marshall coming back on after a shoulder injury and kicking a long goal. gutsy. moments like 2:44 remind me of those legendary teams.

Who are you watching, the tackle before dangerfield where the port player fell onto the Geelong players back? One of the 2 main reasons the rule was brought in dude. Geelong were denied a winning qualifying final goal in 2010 after we kicked it because the previous tackle was alot like this one here.

Take me back to 2007. If only I could tell 5 year old me to enjoy the next 5 years because we would actually win finals not choke. I seriously thought that winning finals was a likely occurrence. Anyway why does Atkins and Dahlhaus end up in the midfield late in the game when we have danger, Ablett, menegola, Guthrie playing forward. And for Tom Hawkins it hurts me to see him dominate all year but then fail to fire in the finals, if he kicks 3.2 instead of 0.5 we win. Anyway hopefully we beat west coast next week then find some form to somehow beat Richmond in the prelim. I’m confident if we make the GF we can win... it’s just getting there is the problem. Credit to port though but I must say in a season of not much crowd they were so lucky to have a home crowd advantage but they finished first so they deserved it I guess. Next week danger needs to play 80% mid and 20% forward instead of 50/50 which he played tonight. Even isolating Gazza deep forward could help ease the load of Hawkins. If miers and Rohan played well that could have made it so much easier for Hawkins to get easier shots at goal but at the end of the day there is no point speculating about that sort of thing. Anyway I had to vent my thoughts somewhere other than to my parents and friends who all are sick of me taking Geelong too seriously. Next week danger needs to play 80% mid and 20% forward instead of 50/50 which he played tonight. Even isolating Gazza deep forward could help ease the load of Hawkins. If miers and Rohan played well that could have made it so much easier for Hawkins to get easier shots at goal but at the end of the day there is no point speculating about that sort of thing. Anyway I had to vent my thoughts somewhere other than to my parents and friends who all are sick of me taking Geelong too seriously. If they won tonight it would have been nice to get that satisfaction but nevermind, I should have known.

The free kick count was more even than the whole season. I get that they are bad. But maybe they are trying to balance out the free kick count
