Q: "Do you prefer him when he's deeper bass or higher toned?" A: YES! Also, yes, you are absolutely correct. There IS only 1 race and that is human. All other categories of "race" are something that we humans invented to create different castes essentially. You can do the research yourself if you want about our history and the creation of what we now refer to as "race", but to boil it down - you were correct and your teacher was wrong. What we call race today is actually ethnicity, not race. I have very much been looking forward to you reacting to this. Thank you. It was a very good reaction and makes me smile to see someone "get it" when reacting to this.
I agree with you that we are all part of one race - the human race. I love the way they show this, by starting with labels that describe each of them (with the ones when they pass the cards being labels that those two people share), then discarding those labels at the end to show that they (and we) are all human. As for Avi singing low vs singing higher, for me it doesn't matter one bit what range he's singing in - anything he sings is a gift to the ears because he's just that damn good! He has put out some truly spectacular solo work since leaving PTX - please do yourself a favor and react to his originals "Change on the Rise", "I'll Get By", "It Knows Me", and "Song for the Thankful" as well as his (incredibly unique) cover of OutKast's "Hey Ya". Sorry for your loss. Take as much time as you need to heal - we've all been there, we understand, and we'll be here when you're ready to come back.
If you don’t get goosebumps when they sing ‘as one’ then there is something wrong with you. Powerful! Beautiful! My favorite video. Thanks for reacting
I didn't expect you to come back so quickly. You sure picked Pentatonix's most emotional video to return on. When I send people to view this, I usually recommend a box of tissues! I firmly believe that John Lennon would have been very proud of this.
First of all, never have to apologise. Some things are more important. Love that famous PTX wall of sound at the end. Amazing. The words are what makes them different but when they pass it on it is what they share. So LGBTQ+ is what Mitch and Scott have in common for example. Love the message behind it.
So sorry for your loss. You were spot on when guessing most of the cards. The ones you didn't guess that were in between, when they passed them, were what they shared in common with each other. Mitch and Scott =LGBTQ+ , Scott and Avi=Man, Avi and Kevin=American, Kevin and Kirstin=Christian. I love how much this made you smile. We need more of this!
In my realm people are divided up only into those who love PTX and acapella music - and those who don't. So sorry on the loss of your uncle. And please - never feel the need to apologize for putting your needs or your family needs above anything else. Love and family are what makes us all human. We understand.
The soundwall they threw up after putting down their shared placard epitomised what they shared with the placard - all different (at points very different, discordant), but still putting forward a beautiful sound (as one) even with the (at times) extreme differences. I feel that many perceive "AS one" means "EXACTLY the same, without differences". Aroha to you and yours over the recent loss.
Our race: human Our home: earth Our language: music Our religion: love Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings and I hope you find music and people that can help you dealing with your loss.
Probably one of the most important videos of our time. An iconic song with a great message. PTX truly embodies what John Lennon was singing about. Good call on the cards. What was on the cards that were passed was what the two had in common. Scott officially came out with this song. They then flipped the cards to show their differences. We are all human. We just have different ethnicities, languages, religions, and other differences. We should be glad we have variety. Life would be boring if we were all the same.
Sending sympathies from 🇵🇭. It's diversity. It shows just how diverse this group of talented guys are and at the end of the day, they are creating such beautiful music.
I'm so sorry about your uncle. My condolences to everyone who loved and cared about him. This video portrays such a wonderful message of love and acceptance. PTX is nothing but positive! I appreciate both of Avi's ranges! He is a beast real low, but warm and cozy singing lead. Love your message on the race topic! Thank you for reacting to this one!
I'm so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your loved ones. As they pass the card to the next person it shows what they have in common with that person, the other cards in between show what makes each unique.(Mitch and Scott are LGBTQ+, Scott and Avi are men but Avi is the only one who is Jewish, one thing he has in common with Kevin is that they are American, Kevin is the only one who is black, he and Kirstie both identify as Christian, and then Kirstie is the only latina and the only woman) Often people will comment on reactions to this video that we should just throw away all the labels and just be the same. But I think the message is we should recognize what we have in common, be allowed to recognize and celebrate what we have that makes us different from each other (not hide it or let it drive wedges) and realize that it takes all of us and our differences to make up the human race. One thing to notice too, at the end before they pick up the final cards when they are creating that wall of sound, initially they are each kind of freestyling and singing differently from each other and then at the end they come into harmony with each other. i think there is symbolism in that too, both are beautiful and I think necessary. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all exactly the same? And yet we are all equally important.
So sorry for your loss. Please... no need to apologize. It's important you be with your family and do what you need to do. You are in my prayers. The Pentatonix Wall of Sound. Its as if the heavens open up for us. I love Avi's voice period but I do enjoy the warm lows. He is the foundation of this band for me along with Kevin. Sounds like your teacher was talking more along the lines of heritage i.e ethnic, cultural, or national identity rather than race. I agree with you.
So sorry for your loss! I love watching your reactions and am so glad you did this one!! That end part where they are all on different notes for "one"...gives me chills!
Mitch- LGPTQ+ Scott LGBTQ+ MAN, AVI Man Jewish American, Kevin American Black Christian, Kirsten Christian Latina and woman. Their similarities and differences. All human. Thanks for reacting to this one. Love it. So sorry for your loss. ❤️
So very sorry for your loss. Enjoyed your reaction and as far as Avi, I love his voice no matter if he is singing high or low but the tamber of his bass is just beautiful.
I am so sorry for your loss. I absolutely loved your reaction. Not just your reaction, but the way you explained it. Wish everyone saw it the way you do. Unfortunately it never has been, and probably never will be the case, although I'd like to think differently. Yes, we are all human, and oddly enough, that is what divides us. So very sad.
Love Avi singing the opening of the song in his higher register but when Scott starts to sing Avi's smooth as honey bass kicks in ...go back and listen to that again..at 3.39 oh my stars lol and may I say you have a great sound system.... This song when it was written was expressing a Utopia....which would never happen. I am a woman of faith and this would be a problem for some. Also they all identified their own religion or race or gender etc so I pray that we can just accept our differences and live in peace. End of sermon lol. Love your reaction....waiving from Australia.
Even after all these years....This simple but powerful message keeps on giving....my hope is that one day that this song altho beautiful will not longer be needed.....Be Blessed...
So sorry for your loss. I'm in the same boat. My Great Uncle passed on Sunday. Was very unexpected as he fell down his stairs. Glad I got to see him just last month and had a good visit. Love this song and the message it holds. I am in the boat of All Lives Matter cause we are all human and should be treated equally. Great reaction! 🥰
My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time for you. Your sincerity throughout all I see on your channel always touches my heart and increases my enjoyment of your reactions. The cards that PTX hand to each other start with something they shared so Mitch and Scott share LGBTQ, Scott and Avi share MAN, Avi and Kevin share American, Kevin and Kirsten share Christian; so likes and differences are illustrated. The way the music does the same thing weaving and blending into that amazing wall of sound and sense of being united brings on a wave of emotions I can't fully put into words but is so hauntingly beautiful a hopeful. This should be the global anthem as we all struggle with pandemic, planetary, and politcal chaos. My security blanket is a strong dose of Pentatonix daily! 💙
first, so sorry for your loss. I lost my grandmother a few months ago and I'm still feeling that pain so I get it. take your time please. as for the video: yes, we are all human but it is our differences that create something beautiful and that's what I think this video is trying to convey. not only were they trying to express what was different but what they share (LGBTQ+, Man, American, Christian). our differences should be celebrated, like the different tones in a harmony because when they come together during that wall of sound, they create something spectacular. wonderful reaction, as usual! 😃
I 100% agree! Our skin is only the colored wrapping that covers all of the things that make us HUMAN! Our differences are what makes us interesting. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some beliefs that I just disagree with. But it's the belief I have a problem with, not the color of the skin of the person. And the beliefs of a handful of people of a certain color don't make me judge an entire ethnic group. I grew up with a lot of very prejudiced people and many years later, the area has gotten better. But there are still a good portion that have never grown beyond the prejudices that the previous generations shoved down our throats. I couldn't understand it, even as a child. I understand it even less now. Unless a person (no matter their color or beliefs) gives me a reason to dislike them, everyone has the same opportunities to belong to "my" world. Thank you for your reaction and for stating your openness to humans! ❤
Sorry for your loss man...we know life and family rules so No worries. Avi...any tone the dude wants to sing at.. I'm in! Avi's bass literally causes my chest to vibrate with his resonance. So ya, deep down, his bass. From THIS group it is the PERFECT message and one we should all strive for. They have differing races, differing sexes, differing religions, differing sexual orientations, and yet when working together they produce pure magic! What makes them different and what makes them the same. Nice call!
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. May his memory become a blessing to those who loved and cared for him. PTX has always been an example of unity coming out of diversity. You might want to check out their tour videos sometime, #PTXperience, to see how close they all really are.
Very sorry for your loss. It takes time to get your equilibrium back after that. About Avi Kaplan singing higher. He has a very large range for a bass and is used as the example in this at 4:25 in discussion of how the bass voice works in going higher than you would expect him to be able to go in "Standing By" ua-cam.com/video/7XHztd7Id9M/v-deo.html In his solo work you can hear him vary where he sings different songs much more often than in Pentatonix. In "The Summit" he uses both. "Aberdeen" higher and "Change On the Rise" low. "Hey Ya!" is a cover he did while still with Pentatonix that can be quite fun for something completely different. In passing the card it is what the 2 members share. So Mitch and Scott are both LGBTQ+, Scott and Avi are both men, Avi and Kevin are both Americans, Kevin and Kirstie are both Christians. It was quite cleverly done. Oh and Avi is not very short he is 5'11" but appears so between Scott at 6'4" and Kevin at 6'3". Kirstie the shortest at 5'4". Mitch is wearing pretty high heels in this if you look. He is 5'10". Quite beautiful interpretation of this song for today.
There is only one race which is the human race but there are different ethnicities which are cultures. But what people forget is culture changes from household to household not just region in which you are raised. And I believe firmly that every culture should be respected, and the color of our skin is merely pigmentation.
I think you missed the part as they were passing the placards to each other, the word/phrase on the card described both the giver and the recipient of it. It was showing their similarities as well as their differences. We are all connected to each other.
I agree with you that we are all the human race. Being from another country, for example Mexico, makes you a different nationality, but you’re still human.
Sharks and guppies are about as different from each other as you can get, but show me one person who doesn't believe that they are both fish. The Only difference between humans is color, race, and ideology, but our basic anatomy is the same in everybody. I totally believe as you do, and we only harm ourselves believing otherwise:)
Probably my favorite PTX performance ever. Not only is the message strong, but the harmonies are to die for! We are all humans. The cards represent not only how they are unique, but how they are all connected. Mitch and Scott are gay, Scott flips to man and then passes to Avi…etc.
I prefer Avi singing. It doesn't matter where in his range he is singing (added 4 days after what follows). Yes! I agree with you completely! We are human! If you enjoyed this video, I hope you’ll consider liking/commenting/subscribing. It all helps me more than you know. ♥
Sorry for your loss dude. Chin up!
They're actually pointing out the similarities as the cards are passed between them, as well as their differences.
Q: "Do you prefer him when he's deeper bass or higher toned?"
A: YES!

That was Scott's official coming out. They gave some of them 3 so they were still connected. But human was definitely the most important one.
