- Eventing has kicked off for Ember and I, our first competition of the season was at Blackwater Farm for the Unaffiliated 80cm (which if I'm honest looked and felt a lot bigger 😂)
I can't believe how much he's come on in just one year, still a long way to go BUT I'm so proud of him.
Thanks for tuning in, please subscribe if you enjoyed! 💙

Thought his dressage looked good - even though he was a little tense, the change and progress since last year is substantial. Even though he is jumping at pace, he has a nice shape now. Gorgeous ginger boy. Love him!
It's like he has a turbo boost button the moment he's in sight of a fence. It's hilarious. He's so keen!
You are such a gutsy rider. Ember us lucky to have you. He would frighten the crap out of me 😂🇮🇪🍀💚
Lucy - you’re an incredible rider, I hope you realise this! It takes a whole different level of ‘feel’ and patience with a hot TB to reap the rewards of their talents and crikey aren’t you doing just that! You and Ember are a superb partnership. You know when to be firm and when to be soft, all with such understanding. I think you two are going to go far ⭐️.
"He's unhinged!" Now THAT was funny.
'Well well welly well' had me cracking up
Well done Lucy & Ember. Growing all the time. I’ve always loved your vlogs. You show it as it is. As a rider who lived for cross country riding in my youth, your experiences are so relatable to me. No over the top whistles and bells. Just down to earth and honest. And that’s just perfect! I had the wonderful bit and bridle consultant Aimee fit my young horse with a comfy barrel full cheek. A game changer given the shape of her mouth. You’ll get there with the right bit / bridle set up for the right discipline. It can take time and it’s a minefield out there so go easy on yourself ❤️
I thought Ember did really well in the dressage. for sure head and shoulders above last year, and really that's all we can ask for, right. 6.5s are respectable, and I am sure you'll only go up from show to show this year. really well done, Lucy and Ember. Loved it :)
Well ridden, Lucy! I know I keep saying that Ember is like my now retired horse, Diesel, but it's really true. At first, we had so many time penalties due to arguments about speed. And for the first 3 or so years together, our first few outings of the year were bonkers! We even had the honour of being kicked out of a Lucinda Green clinic, which wasn't embarrassing at all!! But we figured it out and ended up being very successful and that horse really taught me to ride. I think you are doing everything right and looking fantastic. I love this partnership and see amazing things in your future. Enjoy both his sweetness and his spiciness! 🧡🧡🧡
Fab riding, he looks terrifying to take XC! Sorry but Rob doesn't seem interested or look like he enjoyed it! 🤣
I love his free walk. Tough judges damn
Absolutely brilliant ❤
The improvement in Ember since last year is amazing. You’re doing a great job Lucy well done 🥂
Arrived as you were in the dressage warm up, you guys looked great! My exracer was on something all day, was exhausted by the end 🤣
Lucy, I love how you’re getting a physio in for Ember yet you’re the one feeling stiff jointed! Maybe you deserve it more?? Really looking forward to following the two of you thru the season as you sort out Ember’s quirks…
well i think you did brillently ITS THE FIRST event of the year, he IS getting there.
he has come so far in his flat work! he looks great. his canter was lovely and i thought the walk was scored low but just my opinion. also a 4 to me is literally having something go wrong in the movement like a jig or whatnot. so lovely. he has star quality.
No more races Ember ..........he didn't get that memo 😂. Soon as he arrives he is anticipating the off , you do well to keep all that energy under control 👍🏼
Just love seeing you and Ember out eventing again!! He just needs many repetitions of opening up and coming down to retrain his race brain lol. He was so cute over the fences though.
I have two horses like this. You are an amazingly brave rider. I would have been in tears too. You did the best thing for your horse and your safety. I would have trotted the lot 😂.
Wow Lucy you are doing an amazing job with the Little Rocket Ember ❤ he is a very keen ponio and so strong, but you sit so quietly and try to let him work it out himself so much- that's awesome gal!!
I can't get over how well he has changed from when you first got him and he refused to leave the box ( I did wonder for a minute 😂) but a good kick forward and whoosh😂.
Everything you did was positive reaffirming and calm.... yes he is very forward but with some adjustments you will be more comfortable.... for your first Outing Eventing you should be so proud of where you are, what you have achieved and that you have a clear vision of where you want to be. I look forward to watching your season, so Good luck and be safe ❤🤞
Wow, Ember is looking GOOD! That free walk was nice, tough judge. Lovely to see you two progressing :)
Well done Lucy , really enjoyed your vlog your reluctant groom made me smile ! .Onwards and upwards for you two love your outlook on your special boy with his special racehorse tendencies !! x
You can see the second he locks onto the flags - and goes! He's super honest which is a great trait.
Amazing!!! He is a different horse now. You have done such a good job and the new bit for dressage is a game changer. You both rock. Love it
He looks like an entirely different horse, very exciting
Wow amazing transformation, looks like a show pony! Only on the warmup, can't believe the physical changes in him!
Practice makes perfect! Soo nice to see you pulling up and correcting his behavior rather than just fighting with him. You actually done a fantastic job! My first time here and I've subscribed and hopefully you and Ember will go 3 to 5 star eventing. You both can do this. Stay strong and always believe in yourself. ❤🍀
Great job Lucy and Ember. He sure took off typical tb but he’s a lovely boy and he looks fantastic nicely muscled up your doing a great job with him.tfs🏇🤗🏇
Ember...look what I can do...lol 😂 as he does 100 lead changes, ripping your arms off. 😂 He did SO good!!! Lucy you are definitely brave AH! Just love watching how Ember is coming along! Great job❤
You & Ember are moving more in-sync, as a team and you are looking more at ease riding him. Yeah!!
Must be that positive ‘state of mind’ vs your mind focusing on an error/misstep already done (that you can’t change).
Positivity is amazing!
Great job Lucy!!
Btw: i think the dressage judges were a bit tough.
I did have to laugh at his bolting XC. I don’t think id have been brave enough to continue so well done for holding him together as well as you did! Such a huge improvement already this year xx
Thanks for mentioning the bit. I’m invested in the bit journey 😅
I would love if this was on go pro- I bet the commentary was gold 🤣🤣🤣! Bloody well ridden xx
What an improvement from last year. He loves his job. Can’t wait to see how you progress on this season
Ember, what a crazy dude - WELL DONE!! Oh Rob, buck up. It’s a LONG season. 😂 And Lucy is perfection. ❤
Good job riding through his enthusiasm👍
Well done! That looked like loads of fun! ❤
Well done. OTTB need a lot of time to get that "run/sprint" mindset under control. You're doing amazing. Patience and safety for you both are key. Best to you in the future!
Love Robs comment "he's unhinged" my ex racer is the same I'm not as brave as you Lucy and I haven't dared take him to a competition yet 🙈
Your dressage warm-up continue to improve with each minute, you managed what you had very well and the test went better than last year, your jump warm-up was great! It was a impressive ride and the fact you went clear is evidenced to all the lessons paying off at home, My goodness the start of XC ! Wow what a ride, he'll need a few more events and a tack change with a new XC plan and you'll have you one heck of a horse!! Well done and thank you for taking us on your journey!
What a sweet horse! I think he is a lovely mover!❤😊
Great job ! Would love to see training videos on how to keep the relaxation and stop rushing before and after the fence. This would really be helpful to so many, keep up the great work! Would calming cookies help?
Ember looks like a keen bean event horse! What an incredible start to the season! He has come so far❤
Well done ember 🥺
You’ve done amazing with him. Much braver than me!!! ❤❤❤
I love him so much, he really weaponizes compliance sometimes and says "I've got two speeds: FAST and decidedly not fast" lol XD
Great start to the year. Can we have a Justine debrief
Progression is massive love watching ❤
Congratulations Lucy and Ember! Keep up the awesome work 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💚🌹💙💙🌹💚💚🌈🤎❤️🤎🫶🏻🫶🏻🪷🪷🌷🌺🌺🌸💜🌷🌷🐴💗💗💗💚🩵💚🌹💙💙❤️❤️🤎🩵🩵🩵💛💛🧡💗🐴🌺🌺🌺💖🌸💜🌷🌼🧡💗🤎🌈💚💚
Your videos are so entertaining,, no idea how you stay on Ember let alone jump him 😂 I agree with Rob, Ember is unhinged, good luck Lucy and I pray 🙏 you stay in 1 piece. Honestly once a thoroughbreds blood is up ( ie you let them gallop) there's very little you can do to bring them back so hat off to you 👊
I felt for you in that cross country, I've been in a similar situation. You did great holding it together!
Loved it, really well done Lucy and ember 🧡
BravO Lucy and Amber such success you have come so far, , one needs really cheerful loving support when dealing with so much, especially when taking so much risk and giving out so much energy and filming for us, you deserve a great support team around you, that match your enhusiasm, not dampen it, especilly when out competing.. BravO 💯 for always staying above and being such a good sport 💫
Ember looked exactly like my Arab X when I did Cross Country! 😊
Huge well done to you both, incredible improvement.. despite the slight confusion on Embers part “I racehorse mum, I go fast!” ..it was brief, and you got him back, what an achievement 🏅
Thanks for filming Rob! Haha
Gosh I was genuinely worried for you when you came to the end of the cross country. You really didn't look well! I can't imagine how exhausted you must have felt. You're so brave on him, others I follow on You Tube would have been panicking and given up. That's what I like about you; you don't whinge and say "I can't", you have a great positive attitude. Well done. Such irony that you were "too slow" when it came to points!
Ember is happy to be home and so is Rob. But you did it and that is grea
I love that bap bap bap music..
So nice to see Ember again 🎉
Really well done both of you. You did so well at the X country to bring him back at all he looked like he was havng so muh fun.
I just love watching you working Ember, he’s so beautiful and he’s smart. Just remember though that he’s a thoroughbred, loves to run, also great jumpers. You’re the best.❤️
Hehehe he's so funny!! He thinks he knows all about this eventing lark now and can do it at speed, he loves life doesn't he 🥰🥰
Wow the improvement, well done Lucy you can see you love Ember so much ,he can do it all but he thinks he’s a bird 😂one brave lady congratulations 🎉🎉.
hat off to you Lucy🙌🙌🙌 you rode the x country amazing! you dont give yourself enough credit💪 , you both have come in leaps and bounds things can only get better in the year i mean come on Lucy an ottb in spring!!? Give yourself a massive pat on the back and also for Christine that is a massive support pillar (ps your boyfriend looked soo totally bored ,i have one like that for 25yrs and has resigned to the fact i will always have horses, to his disappointment ! 😂😂but he is well catered for and thats the compromise😏) lovely vlog hugs from NZ x
Looks great.
I bet your fella is feeling guilty after watching this for the lack of enthusiastic 😅 lovely he came along to support and did a great job filming.
That was a really sweet test and for some reason the judge was very harsh. That 4 was unnecessary and I would have given at least a 7 for your halt.
Would be good to see Justine’s reaction and what she would score you. As I think you deserve at least 7/7.5s. 6&6.5 were harsh marks especially for unaffiliated.
Good job Lucy for handling Ember when he was on fire ❤
What a difference, I know he was so strong but I remember a time when he would plant his feet - so at least he's not doing that now :D what a star, exciting times ahead for sure!
Oh Ember! 😂😍 bless him, at least he isn’t boring! Still, how good is that for first run of the season! 🥳
Does Rob have an older brother in Australia please? 😃
He is a very handsome horse..
Fair play to you Lucy . You have some balls.
It’s crazy to think 6 months ago he was completely different recently he looks like he has found his legs and a good mindset
I always feel doing a dressage test in long grass in a field is the hardest thing
What about trying him in a titanium face mask that's meant to help them stay calm
Wow. He’d make a great racehorse ! 🤣
First off Ember looks fantastic, would win a small hack show class!
Thought the dressage judge could have been kinder, more 7s surely. The jumping looked hair-raising, but he didn’t say no to anything, so 👏🏻. Much enjoyed vlog Lucy.
My comments below were re: dressage. Xcty looked like a nightmare. I am amazed you survived that LOL. DEFINITELY put a gag or elevator on him. I am not one for strong bits, but that is the only way here. But also work on things like schooling dressage on the cross country course (in training of course). Serpentines, 20 meter circles, leg yields, and then pop a fence. Then more dressage. Then pop a fence. Eventually that can become something much less obvious in competition, but he has got to learn to do something between fences other than bolt! We are worried for you.
He is a tired boy.. 🍎🍎🍎🌹🌹🌹
Ember didn’t like that horses winnie; he was tired..
Your videos are good..
He’s the Bestes..
Great Cheers 🍺
He looks a lot more settled this year even with the moments of fizz. Maybe he would benefit from a hidez hood?
Can you add a curb strap to his bit with hooks? Myler makes one that you can add the curb chain to the bit with hooks
He is really sweet and smart.. 🤩
Heels down, heels down, heels down! 😂 Ride more in your 2 point to drive those heels down. Riding on your toes is dangerous.
I bet Zack would jump them with Rob , I addmeryou for GOING out eventing. As I love Amber and YOU, TAKE CARE AND all the best. 😬😊😊👍👍🐶💖
Be careful Lucy; ok ..
Why is your numner so far forward?
Tell Rob not to go next time.. you might have kids one day and he'll have to stand around in freezing cold muddy fields for them
Maybe try and hold him to the base of the fence versus letting him go three strides out? Until he learns to respect your aids. Regardless. Amazing ride! Love the vlog
I love his loony front legs that just seem have a mind of their own when he’s on one 😂
Well done tho - he’s certainly not making things easy for you!
I think I heard you say “well this is just unnecessary!!” During one of his moments - owning OTTBS it’s a phrase I use often 😂
I love how his front legs move too! Crazy Legs (TM)
How old is Ember?
Did you give him water after your finish rider
I’m sure she did. Just doesn’t show everything
👏😁🥰❤️
He is a lot of horse..
Your bf behaves miserably. May be he is camera shy; or may be he needs some transitions to liven him up !
