“What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?” After hearing this question, it made me think about what I am willing to sacrifice for the truth and the values that we as Filipinos hold true up until this day. That was the main reason why I appreciated this speech because it didn’t focus on her achieving one of the most prestigious accolades in history but instead, she used the time to make us think about ourselves and the harsh realities our world faces today. A wake-up call is something that the world needs and she did it through this speech. The most courageous thing she did during this speech was when she called out the tech giants who have the greatest power and influence in the modern technological world. I’ve always believed that collectively, our micro efforts have macro effects but truth be told, if the biggest institutions in the world refuse to be part of this change then true and effective change will not be seen. In a world run by money and power, people like Maria Ressa stand out. This is why those who have the most money and power do everything to silence people like her because she sees past the money and the power and banners the truth and the values she holds in everything that she does. She continues to do her job to open our eyes and to be the change that we want to see and to call for change to those who choose and refuse to see these realities. As a student, I take this speech as a challenge to hold the line and always remember the values that our parents, teachers, and mentors teach us because it is through these values that we are able to create a better world of “...peace, trust, and empathy, bringing out the best we can be.” Today, we dream, but tomorrow we take action. Thank you, Maria Ressa.

I have always loved Maria Ressa since I first watch her. Thank you for your love. I wish there is a law that will punish people who are not telling the truth, not stating the facts and have no integrity at all. God bless you Maria and the rest who fight for truth and facts.
This 20 minute speech has made me to believe that it takes a person to make thousands to start doing, this has made my values in life very clear to me. As someone young who lives in this kind of world today, I've never been more inspired to strive for a better one. And I hope I can make this place a better one to give justice to what was lost along the way.

She made it clear that she adhered to three fundamental tenets of journalism: “Without facts, you can’t have truth; Without truth, you can’t have trust; Without trust, we have no shared reality; no democracy.” Truly, Ressa is an inspiration for us. I can say that she deserves the award. Amid the pandemic, hero doctors and health workers are battling to fight the threat of COVID-19. Ressa is also like them; she is also a modern hero and frontline who battles disinformation, seeks truth, and uncovers lies while holding the line. Furthermore, “the destruction has happened. Now it’s time to build - to create the world we want.” Let us open our eyes, as Ressa said, we have to make it happen, and let us hold the line together.

Well said...I agree with you entirely JDP. She is the real president as far as I'm concerned, and I will listen to every word from her. The truth is out there as long as people like Ms Ressa are given the chance.
Very eye opening. I can now see the very importance of keeping truth and integrity sacred and safe. With truth, there is no justice. And without justice we have a world where negativity will prosper and many will be in danger.
What an inspiring speech that touched my heart. Being a Journalist is indeed a risky job since it speaks about the truth. Yet, they are one of the bravest since they have the guts to challenge the problems that are occurring today. "What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?" A question that is deeply asked in each journalist, which in my opinion, is one of the scariest questions you can ask. Life and Death are usually involved in this, yet, journalists are ready to face it. It is inspiring to me as an everyday citizen that there are people out there fighting for what is right. It encourages me to speak up as well and protect those who are the victim of this injustice system.
Maria Ressa stands for something more than just herself. Unlike most journalist "cronies" she puts her own actual opinion beyond that of her own interests. If anything it's her plight for thoss going through injustice that inspire, not the "communism" that she is constantly bombarded at. May we all continue leading honest examples of ourseleves in a society filled with liars. Maria Ressa, thank you for being one of our anti thesis!
I will act in my own simple way to make my students critical and truth-seeking. I will always pray for you Ms. Maria Ressa. Don't lose hope. Be our shining light.

“What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?” This question struck something in me as the remnants of the raging emotions from the recent election, once again blazed inside my heart. Maria Ressa fearlessly fought for the truth despite the consequences she faced and will face in the future. With a total of 10 arrest warrants and the constant danger of being a journalist, she never wavered and was never intimidated, but instead, was only strengthened to fight for the truth that we are painstakingly being robbed off. Her battle reminded me of the battle that we have experienced and are still experiencing especially during the campaign and election period. Having been able to open my eyes to what really happened in our history, it angers me how people are being fed with lies and misconceptions about our past that caused them to make wrong decisions just because they are stolen from the truth. Without facts, you can’t have the truth, without truth you can’t have trust, without trust we have no shared reality, no democracy. For years, our freedom has been protected and exercised, but with what is happening right now, it seems as if what we fought for in the past is being invalidated, history seems to be repeating itself, and as we fight for what is right, we are being silenced. Maria Ressa then reassures us that there is hope and we can do something to stop this pandemic of misinformation before our human tendencies become worse. Just like her, we can still fight our way to bring light upon the heavy clouds of deceit and manipulation that surround our nation. Starting with restoring our information ecosystems, spreading facts and truths, and giving utmost importance and protection to journalists that point us towards the truth. As Ressa has said, ”you don’t really know who you are until you are forced to fight with it”, freedom is what defines us, and it was brought upon us by those who fought for it in the past. As we accept and embark on a new chapter in this nation, we should not forget facts, because as it was said, “ang namulat, ay hindi na muling pipikit”, rather than ignoring and not believing our history and what is the truth, why not use it as a compass to navigate our nation to a brighter future. Because after all, “the truth is what would set us free”.
She is one of Philippines brave, honest, humble, intelligent, hard working, dedicated and human rights defender daughter. Only a few like her in the whole world. More POWER and WISDOM Maria R. GOD BLESS YOU.
Maria Ressa's speech was very inspirational, and she deservedly received the award. She has the courage to stand up for justice and human rights. It is true that, given the inequitable systems in the Philippines, being a journalist is difficult. She is very motivating, and she has encouraged me to always speak up and tell the truth without fear.
But the problem is: They are the most known perpetrator of lies and black propagandas to ruin the credibility of our administration, they serve the personal interests of the aliens and so foreign political intervention infiltrates our country! It's all politically motivated! #WithdrawTheNoblePeacePrize #RapplerFakeNews
There lots of Journalist in Hotspots around the World risking their lives to deliver the incident reports who deserve this award.. ua-cam.com/video/3xHSfcziIuo/v-deo.html

A very powerful speech. Very inspirational. M Ressa is the kind of person that people like Marcos, Dutertes and their ilks mga sinungaling, magnanakaw, mangdarambong, mandurugas, corrupt gov't officials and corrupt private individuals and corporations are afraid of kasi ini expose ni Ressa ang kanilang katiwalian. It's true M Ressa that there are more good in this world than evil. And GOOD will always prevail. Mabuhay ka! God bless.
What a wonderful speech!, as a journalism Student i see now how many journalist faced many discrimination and how they should stay strong between that and fighting for the truth.
@@parkandblock9069 She was convicted because of so many witnesses from the Bilibid prison that she was a drug protector. During her time, drugs were being cooked in prison. Imagine that? Drug lords enjoyed their life during her time and when she was caught. No drug lords ever stood up again in our country. They all fled and God knows where they are hiding now. Maybe in the USA?
Maria Ressa's speech is truly inspiring, because she speaks confidently about the issues of the Philippines. She is risking her life to speak about the truth and to earn peace in this accursed world. Being a journalist is hard because of how danger and risky it is to learn the truth, which many people who are corrupted will do anything with their power to just hide it from the citizens in their country. I am very proud to Maria Ressa receiving an amazing award, she has been battling with many issues to give our country peace and freedom.
First of all, I would like to congratulate Maria Ressa for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. The work of a journalist is a really difficult job especially here in the Philippines because of the fact that their lives are also in danger whenever the journalists speak for the truth. The saying "kasalanan nang pumikit kapag namulat ka na sa katotohanan" is very true and their job to exposing the truth is really hard if they are facing a powerful person (politician, celebrity, etc.). The powerful person can manipulate the truth because they have the power, money and communication to different people in almost everything. If the journalists (including Maria Ressa) did not bravely do their jobs, how we will know the truth? So let us help Maria Ressa's vision to have a peaceful world where journalists don't have to be in danger and the truth shall always prevail.
1969 was when Freedom of the Press in the Philippines began to fade and by September 23, 1972 was completely extinguished by the dictator Ferdinand Marcos when the proclamation of martial law was effected throughout the country. Twenty-three years later, it was restored but now faces another reckoning with the rise of the Marcos clan in politics. Thank you, Maria, for shedding light on the impending danger.
What impending danger? We are already in it! They are ready to feast on this coming elections! Expect it's going to be a bloody mess! It's good vs evil.
Why do you think Marcos keep on questioning the result of VP election? To make him relevant and frequently be shown in public. That's the strategy. PH will be the laughing stock of the world if another Marcos will run the country. China will be laughing again at us as we keep on having internal issues. Good luck Pinoys.
@ China has already unleashed its propaganda capabilities in social media. Maria Ressa confirmed that in this video. If BBM wins that only means China already has a foothold on Filipinos' social media and social media is the Filipinos' weakest point. Maria Ressa is pointing out that disinformation and propaganda in social media is already a problem and that international organizations needs to be created to regulate this platform.
I felt her speech, was powerful although I felt bad for her journalist friends that died to know the truth about their country and about the world, Journalists have very risky jobs I salute and respect all of you.♥️
WOW! Rappler just deleted my comment about Risa and her statement with ABS CBN!? WOW just WOW!!! Talk about truth and trust? Afraid that the people will know that ABS franchise was not granted because they owe the Filipino people trillions of pesos of tax?
What a well formulated speech, as a filipino I am proud that a fellow filipino has made it to the top and was able to bag a Nobel prize. Your speech truly advocates of peace and truth and as an Asian studies major myself and advocate for peace, partnership and truth, I am gladdened to witness a change of tide against corruption in our own government in a peaceful and serene way of sending a message. The phrase that resonates to me the most was "Hold the line" because it not only shows bravery amidst the injustices and killings but also manifests solidarity, God bless you Ms. Ressa!
Rappler : mayroon po bang version nito na may closed caption in our Pilipino language ?
Ms. Maria Ressa gave such a beautiful speech. Her entire point about the truth and peace is made in her speech. This speech serves as a wake-up call to those who have closed their minds to the reality of the world around us. "What are you willing to sacrifice for the truth?" A probing question asked to every journalist who consistently display and speaks about the truth despite of all the danger and life threatening situation out there. Ms. Maria Ressa delivers this lovely speech with so much power and such a distinct voice. Thank you, Ms. Maria Ressa, for bringing awareness and justice to our society. We value each and every journalist, including you. I want you to know that I am here, holding the line with you. Congratulations and Mabuhay!!

It is true that being a journalist is hard, given the injustice systems here in the Philippines. She is very inspiring and has inspired me to always speak up and don't be afraid to tell the truth
When I was in the 3rd grade, we already started reporting any kind of news that we may find in newspapers. We were tasked to state the news in front of the class and say something about it afterwards. At first, I took that task for granted and failed to realize that the nature of the work of journalists will have a significant part in our society’s role in keeping the common good. During those times, we were just laughing at the report of my classmate about someone stealing the biscuit of his playmate. However, no matter how laughable it was, it is still the truth. And that is the essence of journalism. They write and publish newspapers, news articles, magazines, websites, and/or news ready to be broadcast just to maintain the facts inside the world we live in. With regards to Maria Ressa’s acceptance speech to her Nobel Peace Prize Award, I have seen how persecuted, victimize, and mistreated our journalists are by the current administration. She mentioned that she was given a total of 10 arrest warrants and was convicted of cyber libel over a book that they published 8 years ago. Not to mention that they have published it way before the law that they allegedly violated. was created. During the Duterte administration as well, a Senator, namely Leila De Lima, was arrested due to drug trafficking charges which until now haven’t been proven yet with finality in the court due to lack of evidence. Senator De Lima has been a known critic of Duterte and his war on drugs. Pretty much the same with Maria Ressa and Rappler. You can really see the motives of the Duterte administration in silencing those who oppose them and how easy it is for them to execute it and get away with it. It was also mentioned by Maria Ressa that she was thankful for the privilege that she had in speaking in front of the Nobel committee whereas her colleagues are still behind bars experiencing injustices. I cannot imagine how many more journalists out there were persecuted, harassed, and even killed that hasn’t been reported. That is how immense the gravity of fighting for the truth is not just in the Philippines, but in the entire world. And we can only achieve the world we envision, if state leaders will actually move together with the people that have been fighting for it.
Mere fact na nakaka pagbatikos kayo at nakakapagsalita, walang suppression yun pero hindi ibig sabihin wala kayo pwedeng accountability kung sinungaling … freedom is never absolute meron kaakibat yan na pananagutan
Exactly! Nobel Peace Prize is a vindication from God☺️🎊🤸. after being attacked and so much injustice being thrown at her. God is raising the humble not those loud mouth liars an d cursing w/ o evidence that are in power having trolls.
"This is just for an assignment." As a campus journalist, I truly admire her motives and visions for the future of journalists and that of the world where truth is being upheld. Gosh, I can watch this all day. Maybe our teacher knew that what we are about to hear is not just "for an assignment"
to all media practitioners please be real, don''t be biased, dont let yourself be used by unscrupulous minds, be true to yourself and be responsible to your words because the tool (media) you are holding is very powerful, just like what you said there are two sides of a coin like life in reality there is half truth and half lies only God knows if you are really telling the whole truth and we will all be judge in next life by God the Father on the kind of life that we live in this world

Your speech is great and marvelous. The Spirit of Wisdom and Courage abides in you and with you. It encompasses complete human life experiences and encounters in details with resolute choices. Thanks it's very inspiring in my own situation, in which I am undergoing grave injustice for more than 50 years by lawyers, prosecutors rather persecutors and Judges. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS,AMEN
This speech made me cry. I love my country, which is the Philippines. But every time I see Filipino people believing false information is so depressing. We must spread facts only and truth only to everyone, please educate one another.
The truth and honor is not based in articulation of the mouth but integrity and honesty; For God and the country. What profit a man to gain the whole world, but he lost his soul along his ways.
Maria Ressa's speech was inspiring. She talks about how to stay true to our values and mission in life. Learning this from her may help us viewers to understand the world, and it also motivates people to speak the truth. As a fellow Filipino, I was proud and inspired by how Maria Ressa talks about freedom and human rights. Nowadays, discrimination is one of the problems that people are facing, but with the help of her speech, many people were given a chance to understand and engage with other people as well. It is a powerful speech because not all of the journalists are willing to speak the truth, but because of their willingness and how strong Maria Ressa was, she was able to share her experience as a journalist. There was one thing that caught my attention while watching this video.
The speech is really influential and uplifting. Maria Ressa has committed her life to the battle for press freedom and democracy in the Philippines. Her statements serve as a reminder that we must all work together to defend our freedoms and rights and to speak out against falsehoods. She is an inspiration to all of us with her bravery and commitment to her goal.
Absolutely Correct.. How could this so called noble Nobel People recognize this woman who did nothing special and not even mentioned those many Journalists who are risking their lives in hot spots all over the World..
LoL. This is a slap to true journalism.. They cant even distinguish truth from lie..so biased. She doesn't deserve the award. Probably this award lost its value.
You are not telling the truth Riza. Injustice started many many years ago. Since 1972 to the time of Cory Ramos Estrada Gloria and Aquino, there were llot of unsolved cases of ambushes of innocent people happened in Mindanao and anywhere else in the Philippine. I vote these people except Estrada and Gloria. I wrongfully voted these leaders who gave us a dark Philippines. It was only the time of Duterte that we feel peace and secured. We were happy with Martial law in Mindanao. Good for you Riza the foreigners believed you even without knowing the true history and feelings of every Filipino. Good for you Riza the foreigners believed your lies even if they did not experience how to live in MINDANAO, Good for you Riza you have the power to speak out to foreign countries with your lies. Good for you Riza who speaks very fluent in English with your lies. I am not a troll. I am a Filipino citizen very thankful that President Duterte came into our lives. Thank you to the arm forces of the Philippines who protected us civilians under their Commander in Chief President Rodrigo Duterte.
After listening to her inspiring speech, I’ve learned that we really need to secure our safety everyday. Being journalist and Lawyer is risky job specially in the philippines. It’s inspiring to watch Maria Ressa’s speech!
hold the line on what????? she talks about the PH government like it's some opressive entity when journalists overe here still have freedom of expression!!! people can still express their views against the government! do you see ANY actions from the government that prevent people from speaking their opinions about it's actions? Ressa takes it too far and spouts half truths and slanderous things about the government. She is an E m b a r a s s m e n t.
Maria Ressa's speech was outstanding. Her thorough preparation was evident as she delivered a powerful and thought-provoking message. I was particularly struck by her emphasis on the importance of personal safety. As a journalist and lawyer working in the Philippines, I found her words to be both enlightening and inspiring. She is a true inspiration and has motivated me to always speak the truth without fear, no matter the obstacles.
But you cannot dictate what Filipinos who want to vote specially in politics. Let them vote who ever they want. Respect the Phillipine law, law is powerful than freedom of the press.😏

The SEC and BIR already witnessed that ABS CBN paid all their taxes.

She’s a beast Maria Ressa... she’s a lion want’s to conquer her world of lies.

Filipinos never learned! Why? Instead of making their public officials accountable, they are idolizing them! Wth.
Why do you think Marcos keep on questioning the result of VP election? To make him relevant and frequently be shown in public. That's the strategy. PH will be the laughing stock of the world if another Marcos will run the country. China will be laughing again at us as we keep on having internal issues. Good luck Pinoys.
