Now I'm thinking of making a little side biz offering to digitize tapes for people in my area. It's small enough that there's a bunch of older ppl and tech illiterates to maybe do it and big enough to have a lot of ppl needing help maybe.
Good stuff, man - it'd be so fun to go back and see some of my old videos! Just don't think I can find them...
I actually have been asking my parents to get me some of my old family tapes so I can digitize them... such a good throwback ❤️
The output of a VCR is not approximately 480p. CRT TV sets cannot display a 480 line progressive signal. Typical NTSC CRT TV sets can display progressive 240 at 60 Hz or interlaced 480 at 30Hz. You can have 240p or 480i, not 480p.
I have that same exact VCR (the 80s one). I am working on it to get it working. It plays the tape and doesn’t eat it but no picture.
If you need a parts one hit me up on socials... this one didn't work 100% either.
Tom DeCicco I have a parts VCR that I am yet to transplant the tape head out of. If it doesn’t work then i’ll get in touch.
Tom DeCicco The assembly of that VCR is actually quite simple. I made mine stop eating tapes because one of the belts were loose. The panel is at the bottom.

Put the cassette like in the trunk of a car,
then wait another 15 minutes for the video to start working
