The Chipophone is a homemade 8-bit synthesizer, especially suited for live chiptune playing. It has been built inside an old electronic organ. www.linusakesso...
@@eugeneimnotgonnatellyoumyl5513 Yeah, I bet he did practise them! Which is totally cool. :) In response to OP: I would say that playing from sheet music is harder than playing from memory in most cases (including those portrayed in this video).

By definition, if it's 8bit it's digital. Basic pulse/noise waveform's generated by an 8bit processor, 1980's home computer style. These are modulated in various ways to produce effects, but if you notice - no filter. You can produce the same kind of tones with analog, with basic raw open filtered patches. If you're asking mate, shows you're not stupid...
PTechnicalOriginal By definition, if it's outputing audible noise, there's some amount of analog circuitry involved. The voices, ring modulus and hard sync are digital, and the filter effects are analog (implementing a FIR filter or similar would have been much too expensive).
soylentgreenb Analog circuitry involved in the output stages, yes I agree. As for the ring mod and hard sync, I must be missing something because I don't hear those effects here. Not quite with you friend, are we talking about this instrument?
Dude, you are really an amazing person. I love your Chipophone (also ich like chiptunes and old 8bit music!). I love it if people with talent like you share such stuff with us!
Wow it's been so long this vid has been sitting in one of my UA-cam playlists... Hearing your rendition of that Megaman theme seriously gave me chills. 😮
My father used to scoff at me turning up old c64 tunes. I'm now older than he was when I was born, but those sounds still never fail to make me smile. Hearing them as live performances adds a whole new quality.
This. Is. Amazing. Why is this not a thing? A keyboard manufacturer should pick you up man and you can design this system into the software of keyboards.
+Reegareth It is a thing, all these features are commonly found in both analogue and digital keyboards. This guy just built one himself using an old organ he had available.
To all those callin this fake, i see your point with the background noice, but he plays it acciratly and on some occasions he even played wromg so i mean.. Would he import a soundfile that is misplayed really? :p
He probably didnt want to make any money out of it due to the fact that he said it officially in his site that the origin of this synth was an organ of his friend, and if he sells this synth in the world then im pretty sure his friend has the rights to sue him for copyright infringement since he is the actual owner of the synth that used to be an organ.
There is someting that bugs me, why does the background noise, disapeer when ever he plays on the chipophone, but comes back when ever he speaks? It also seems like the music is waay higher quitly then the mic he is using
I guess he's recording his voice and the "chipophone" with the same microphone. So if it's positioned to record the chipophone but too far away from himself it needs to amplify his voice resulting in heavy background noise. Maybe it's even a build-in recording device who knows
It's chip audio my friend, requiring no moving parts. It's likely he's just digitally recording the key strokes on his computer and recreated the audio. No that complicated.
Very impressive.
Hmm...What a surprise seeing you here! XD
Yes.
Hey! I'm happy to see you here!
8 bit you are supposed to be here
Lmao 🤣 8 bit guy found his natural habitat.
3:44 casually plays perfect cover of one of the greatest compositions in 8-bit music history... legend
That cover has kept me coming back to this video for almost a decade now. Beautiful. I like it more than the original

If I saw this played in-person I would cry tears of joy.
I'm not even seeing it in person and I'm doing that I think the fabric of reality would implode if I saw this in person.
Not only did he make this crazy awesome 8-bit synth, but he can play all of these game theme songs from memory. Freaking amazing.
It's called practice, which I don't... Uh... Do...
But other people do it!

What about skrillex' scary monsters and nice sprites?
i'm particularly impressed that he listed all the original composers. this is awesome.
Wow what a cool instrument you made! Great playing as well!
1:53 sounds like a typical keygen
There is a keygen that uses that exact same music (from Comic Bakery, a C64 game from 1986), but I can't remember from where it is.
Lewis Hay sounds very similar to unreal superhero 3
It probably IS a keygen. lftkryo's in the demoscene

Not loud enough

Is it analogue or digital? Sorry for sounding stupid, but I just heard a bunch of analogue synths capable of sounding like 8bit or close to it.
