I came to Denmark for a long weekend, that turned into 20 years, two kids, a new outlook on life, and a great career. I can't imagine living anywhere else, I feel more Danish than English, now. When people ask my nationality, I say I'm Danish.

The British values, that made them stand up against Hitler Germany and support Denmark and our resistance in our darkest hour, have never been forgotten. As you know, we Danes keep statistics about nearly anything to try to improve our society where we can. British immigrants are not over represented in any crime/conviction statistics but truly aim to integrate, why Brits are heartily welcome. After 54 years maybe calling yourself a Dane with British roots seem more appropriate but whatever you prefer.

We do rend to get overlooked because we aren’t as “impressive” as the big ones. Like when you see nature documentaries they will usually don’t bother with us because most of what we offer can be found in other countries, or in a Vikings series they will typically film in Norway because it’s more harsh. They literally took famous Danish Vikings and made them Norwegian for the Vikings series which takes place in a fictional town in Norway called Kattegat and then includes Hedeby which actually was a Viking town but located in southern Jutland.

One more thing: the Scandinavian "y" is pronounced like the German "ü", and the Danish "ø" and the Swedish "ö" almost like the German "offenes ö", O-umlaut with open mouth.

What I think is unique about Copenhagen is its history that you feel by the presence of all of the 16th & 17th century buildings.
It is an OLD city but has historically been a wealthy city, however never a huge city.
Other European capitols are often time much, much bigger, or as with some of our Scandinavian friends the wealth has been acquired much later and therefore lags the big, beautiful, OLD buildings and monuments.
When, as a Dane, you visit very young countries like the US or Australia you immediately notice the lag of history. I love both, but that is something you only get in Old Europe.

Great video, and even better when you instally know, that the church you where at was "Højerup gamle kirke". Small sidenote: it is not pronounced Steven as the name but rather StÆvns.

    Dear Trey & family
I'm glad you enjoyed your way too short visit up here in Daneland. Please come back and settle for good. According to our government our workforce needs immigration, and some US style "go get 'em" mentality coupled with your appreciation would be just fine!

Sadly you didn’t made it at the west coast of Jutland, you go a pair of 100 km unspoiled rough coast and beaches.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Denmark. Nyhavn is a great and cosy place to visit, but DAMN is it expensive and I say that as a Dane. It is fine to get a cup of coffee and enjoy the area, but I would not suggest eating there as its way too pricy for what you get.
