I admire your dedication, every time I watch your videos I am thinking "wow so he went up the hill, placed a camera there, walked down and up again to get a good clip (and likely multiple times)" :D
Hello, fellow Japan explorer! I went here last year. I also came down via the memorial garden. I have a great interest in historical castles, of which Nagano, where I live, has very many. This castle, Ohmine Castle, was a real castle, and the ruins of earthworks, such as ramparts, trenches and baileys, remain, but they're not much to look at except for if you're a mountaintop castle enthusiasts like me. The real remains are behind the faux reconstructed castle tower ('mogi tenshu' in Japanese). There are many mogi tenshu, as we say, throughout Japan, and no small number of them are also abandoned / closed down, like here at Ohmine Castle. Tenjin'yama Castle in Saitama is another example. Stay safe, and don't forget your bear bell next time ; )
Ahh wait, you must have started BELOW the park? And to answer your question about the metal staircases. Because of the MASSIVE mudslide here, and those were created to service the mountain. That’s actually why the zoo was abandoned as well (the mudslide) I believe. EDIT: I see you cover that a bit later.
When I see any kind of stairs seemingly leading to nowhere, I want to use it. It's even more interesting when steps lead from wall to wall with no visible signs of how to get up there. I'm interested in the castle because I thought all the castles are already categorized & known (100 castles/12 original castles).... Oh, I see, it's a modern castle.
Loved the video man, hoping to see more videos like this.
P.s. Cinematic shoots were really beautiful
Thanks a lot, will be coming!
Thank you so much for sharing this area with us! Great video!
Great video! I know you had to walk back and forth for many of these shots! It really made me feel like I was there.
Yeah, it makes the walk twice as long 😅
It is a small mountain though.

Yes, when I arrived, it was before the park opens, so I had to take this "hard path". Thanks for commenting Andy!
Japan is always full of surprises at unexpected turns.//Those stacked stones... aren't they grave markers?

Absolutely love abandoned stuff, Japan has a lot of it too. But can be tricky to find the good ones, Tomogashima near Wakayama is amazing for it
Thanks for sharing! I might take a look when I'm in the area one day.
Archaeologists will be scratching their heads in 10,000 years regarding this place. Great video, Johannes!
The concrete is there for eternity.
Where exactly is this? Any link?
