@@aptro7855 A different version of the same thing (different instrument patches) was in the Japanese Megadrive. The sound system in the Megadrive could be seen as an upgraded version of that, keeping the same PSG but improving the FM considerably and adding a somewhat scrappy PCM channel.
I hate using the chip. No, I don't hate the songs on this video, they're beautiful. I just think the VRC 7 chip itself is terrible to use because it doesn't let you play your own instrument that you design with another one you made at the same time. That's very ridiculous. Now the default instruments are not bad, but if I want to make my own instruments and use them, then I would like to use them on a song.
Me personally, I find it enjoyable to actually have these kinds of limitations, as you can have different sections with different custom patches, and maybe have other ideas be replaced with similar sounding built in patches. That's just my perspective, though
I am not familiar with the parameters of the DX7, so I don't know the details of converting from VRC7 to the DX7, but I believe that similar sounds can be produced by setting the corresponding parameters on the DX7 to those of the VRC7. VRC7's parameter (in binary format) can be found through a Google search. To check VRC7 presets through a GUI, PortaFM would be useful.
You chose the perfect song for this test... now make a proper cover of Air with all the instruments.
Never knew that the famicom could do fm until now without hack (only official chip), amazing
Yeah, I thought all the VRCs were either PSG type or PCM, it having a variation of the OPLL is quite the surprise
As someone who is more into N64 soundfonts, I would love to use these in the future.
Well, it was used in the megadrive...
@@aptro7855 It was used for Famicom wdym
@@aptro7855no it wasn't
@@pyra9345 the vrc7 was definitely not used in the n64 tho

vrc7 is a cost reduced cost reduced improved cost reduced chip
Synth is actually Rattling Bell
The guitar sounds so Undertale'ish
How would you go about recreating these on a DX7 (Hypothetical)
