    That ban is not bad, As you said you can't drink water from machines. That's why they are allowing 5 ltr can. Smaller bottles can be thrown easily. You felt bad because you will not throw plastic in open but not everyone is not like you.

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому +1

      True, but unfortunately there were no good store to buy decent 5 litre bottle brand. Also we had to discard approx 10 bottles which we bought at Mettupalayam
      They could have allowed to carry bottles with security deposit, like we have at Andamans

    To promote responsible environmental practices while ensuring convenience for tourists, provide eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bottles.
    Instead of just enforcing bans or levying fines, establish systems for exchanging plastic bottles with eco-friendly options or offer discounts on larger containers.
    Consider providing small pouches of water like those used in Indian Railways catering as a convenient alternative.
    It's about offering alternatives rather than just restrictions.

    What they expect you to do is to carry a metal or glass bottle each and keep refilling it from a 5 ltrs big jar on your journey. That way, you will help in keeping the surroundings clean (because eventually you are going to discard the used plastic bottles in the garbage somewhere), save the environment and buying a bigger refill jar will be more economical for you as well. Happy Travelling. I enjoy your travel blogs😊

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому

      True, but if I was aware of this ban, could have planned better.
      However, it came up as a surprise at the checkpost. In a 20 days travel it gets difficult. We do nonstop 15-18 hours drive at times.
      I know that gets economic but inconvenient.
      Bad part is Riya got bad stomach after having regular water at Hotel 😢

    The Rules are in Good will for Nature...
    In Wynad ... at Tourist places they allow you to carry your bottle with a deposit... when you return and show them the bottle back😂

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому

      Agree sir !! But here rules were not thought through. Even during my trip to Jollybuoy island in Andamans they took deposit and returned when I came back with empty bottles.
      Here, we did not get any store to buy good water. They were selling 5 litre packages in recycled plastics looking pale yellowish

    Plastic bottles are banned in nilgiris as per the High Court order. It has been more than 1 year, and majority of people aware of it. Because 1L plastic bottle and soft drinks bottles were the main trash people throw in to the forest. There are 2 options, either carry steel water bottles or buy bigger 5L bottle. In that way we can reduce the plastic waste.
    May be you aren't aware of it as the news was published all over the news papers etc here.

    All the tourists should avoid plastic. Try to carry steel bottles and 20 ltr water jar. I live in sikkim, initially I also reacted in same manner when 1 ltr bottle banned in our state but 2 ltr allowed. But gradually I realised that allowing 2 ltr bottles has impacted. It has reduced the garbage (bottle) by 50%. Try to use reusable plastic. Many travellers carry carrate of 1 ltr bottle which is not good.

  • @rasibcmp
    @rasibcmp 6 місяців тому +1

    This rule has implemented due to the behaviour of tourists. After drinking water most of tourists throw bottles to the forest. If you are entering nilgiri from kerala side they will collect all plastic bottles and covers in your car at nadukani checkpost. Otherwise 90% tourists throw plastic on roadside.

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому

      Somehow tourists are responsible for this rule (outside Nilgiris). However I could see ban only in plastic bottles but found plastic bags lying here and there within the district

    • @Nitin03081
      @Nitin03081 6 місяців тому

      They are trying as much as they can to make Nilgiris plastic free. It's not up to the mark yet that I agree

    • @VinodKumar-cm4ef
      @VinodKumar-cm4ef 6 місяців тому

      There was no reason to argue. Maybe u would dispose the plastic bottle correct way but there are fools who throw bottle wherever they feel like. We travel too and we do carry 3 steel bottles which we keep refilling into those bottles when ever needed.

  • @vilassonawale1932
    @vilassonawale1932 6 місяців тому

    Be a role model. The reason for 5 ltr bottle allowed, you will carry glass for drinking water from said bottle, you will not through out the same the 5 ltr bottle after empty, you will filled it and reuse. However plastic is banned for safety of environment . Some body has to start to save environment and not argue unless we follow the same.

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому

      Boss, problem is water..not the bottle. Even if it's 5 or 10 litre, obviously being a tourist I wil not fill tap water. Ultimately that 5 litre will find its way to dustbin.
      Anyways, the rule was not thought through by the authorities.
      2 km before the checkpost all types of 1 litre bottles are sold and at checkpost there is no alternative buying option of standard water.

    Hi bro. Guess there was a misunderstanding on the communication between you and the check post officer. He infact was trying to protect you saying if you proceed with 1 litre bottle to the next check post they may impose a fine on you. Agree all plastic bottles are harmful but the amount of plastic bottles will reduce if you buy 5 or greater than 5 litre.
    It is practically not possible to ban plastic completely and hence this approach. Also for the OWN bottle topic, the point he was trying to say is OWN steel/ non Plastic bottles are allowed and you shall re-fill it.
    But definitely there is a scope of improvement on the implementation.

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому +1

      He told so that fine will be imposed from next checkpost, but we had kind of 10 plastic bottles as we always carry crates while travelling. He additionally fined 10Rs per bottle as fine and green tax which they did not charge post argument
      Agree with you, implementation needs to be better, as there were small shops selling water near the checkpost, which were looking pale in Colour and did not give us confidence to drink.
      Unfortunately we had stomach issues after 2 days of stay at Nilgiris - We had regular water at Hotel, may be that created issue, not sure !!

    if your travelling other places follow rules dont argue becz of u hiill stations are spoiled

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  6 місяців тому +1

      Rules need to be thought through. If checkpost is discarding the water bottles of tourists, it should be accompanied with store which provides glass bottles to buy. Unfortunately there were small stores who were selling pale coloured water in recycled 5 litre jar.
      You can't generalize, "saying because of you". I agree few tourists throw bottles out of window which is a problem and we suffer who discard in dustbins.
      Even Andaman have zero plastic bottle policy. They tag 500 rs ticket for each bottle and give you slip.
      The money is returned in exit once you show the slip.
      Implementation needs to be better !!

    As per your comment as Rubbish rule let me clarify why this rule of NO PLASTICS in nilgiris implemented :
    - major land area of nilagiri holds wildlife sanctuariesand the plastics have harmed and killed many wildlife earlier as they swallowed them .
    - the whole water ways, lakes , falls were scattered by plastic garbage [ Ooty lake , Pykara dam bore the brunt]
    - every monsoon the residents of nilagiri suffered the after math of plastics as they were blocking the sewages and streams .
    As a tourist we go there for just 2 days with loads of plastic bags and cans and leave it there in that beautiful place and come back to our cities but, the poor common man /elephant /deer /bison /monkeys /boars had to cope up the trash we left behind.
    We can argue that we don't throw it on the road but believe me that is only a few %!! rest all on the side of the road.
    The 5 ltr bottle logic is that as a natural instinct we normally don't throw that big ones without reusing/refilling it that easily.
    What ever said , the plastic nuisance has decreased a lot after that rule there which will stand as an example for other hill stations too.
    The check post near kallar where you were warned is infact in coimbatore district which helps in advising us to not carry up the hill and get into trouble.
    > If we can check for the hotels and destinations before going to a particular place it's always better to check do's and don'ts too.
    Happy Motoring

    • @Travidiction
      @Travidiction  5 місяців тому

      That's sad to know !! Yes I agree not all tourists use dustbins.
      In my opinion implementation can be made better. Since we stay at Mumbai, we were not aware of this rules and just 15 kms before this we bought a full crate of Aquafina bottles. As I drink water while driving (whole day at a stretch). 1 litre bottle is always convenient - Which we switched to Fortune glass bottles after entering Nilgiris - Near to Dolphins nose point.
      When I say implementation - Like a store selling these glass bottles near the checkpost. There were few recycled 5 Litre jars being sold but the water was looking pale and hence we skipped those.
      In this entire 26 episode trip, we were travelling without hotel booking and reserving it while we were nearby/just walk in, however checking with the hotel can be a nice tip. Thanks 👍
      Even I as tourist agree that I see lots of litter along the Indian roads which is disheartening!!

      As you are in Chennai , seems you don't follow local news magazines about nilgiris palstic ban which was rolling in news forums last year!!
      Tourism to Ooty infact has multi folded in recent years and last month was hell on road for local residents and the government had to control the numbers by issuing e-passes !
      None will avoid this beautiful hill just for a few palstic rules ):

    • @Travidiction

      I bought glass bottles for usage later on. However, i have habit to store the bottles and throw them at dustbins.if it's 5 L, even it will find place in dustbin.
      Rule is fine but needed few stores selling those glass bottles at checkpost which can be the alternative for the tourists. I felt implementation is half thought through
